sigh... I still haven't found time or a convenient tool to compile the global history of Stack Exchange moderators. Would be nice to have somewhere for reference.

user259867
Scraping all the election pages... which don't even include pro-tem mods... tiresome.

You can probably use archive.org with stackexchange.com/about/moderators.
Might not provide enough precision, but...
close enough. :P

user259867
Yes, my scripts tracks that page daily, but so far it just emails me with the changes instead of recording them.

12:38 AM
archive.org has a decent amount of captures: web.archive.org/web/20120105183639*/stackexchange.com/about/moderators

user259867
By the way, is the Close Queue Graph coming back, or should I just start one myself?

@NormalHuman @rene made an updated one

user259867
Where is it?

It took me a minute to find the link. ;P

user259867
Nice. The Math version does not have a weekly pattern. It has some kind of a pattern, but I still don't see any reason for it.

user259867
12:43 AM
Of course, with its ~0 size it's strongly influenced by individual users.

user259867
Speaking of moderators and SOCVR...

user259867
That, I think, is some of the sobering truth about it. I still have chosen to give my time to a network of sites that is striving after an overarching principle. It's just highly unfortunate to be treated as if I'm badge hunting or damaging the network in some way, when there's clearly checks and balances already in play for close votes. — jonsca Jul 11 at 7:06

I think Review Audit Detector is not such a bad idea: I've advertised it on both meta.SO and meta.math, and the review system hasn't collapsed. Those who will install it probably aren't robo-reviewers to begin with, just people sick of questionable audits driven by random voting patterns.

@NormalHuman You do know there's a better way to detect audits: intercept the Ajax request using jQuery ajaxComplete(), and look for the isAudit flag.

is ban == suspension?

@chmod666telkitty Yes

@chmod666telkitty no

A 'ban' on other sites is a 'suspension' here

@NormalHuman Yeah, but it saves you from having to make an extra request on reviews that aren't audits to begin with.

user259867
1:05 AM
Depends on context. Ban = not welcome to use the site anymore. It does exist on SE, but extremely rare.

We just don't do permanent bans.

user202362
so it's not like ban >= 24 hours suspension < 1 day?

just incredibly long ones

@NormalHuman I don't know that it really exists - if someone finds a way around it and comes back and behaves themselves... mission accomplished.

no, you can be banned from asking questions yet be able to use the site features, except, of course, asking questions
a suspension leaves you without any way of interacting with the site... just like read-only

1:07 AM
Question (or <insert any action>) banned, account suspended. Different usage.
But yeah, there's no permanent account ban (they're usually nuked instead)

N0000k!
What's the difference tho?

technically? none. In the usage of the SE? contextual

user202362

I don't even know one person who gets perm ban unless they themselves don't want to come here anymore. YCS, vlad & evan, all of them seem to be running free sooner than they get banned for.

user259867
This is for applied linear algebra homework. The idea is to use SVD to classify words into clusters based on the letters they contain. An artificial example, of course.

there should be several versions of that

user259867
A more realistic one would be to classify texts based on words they contain, but that's a lot more work to set up.

Oh, interesting.

user259867
Latent semantic indexing (LSI) is an indexing and retrieval method that uses a mathematical technique called singular value decomposition (SVD) to identify patterns in the relationships between the terms and concepts contained in an unstructured collection of text. LSI is based on the principle that words that are used in the same contexts tend to have similar meanings. A key feature of LSI is its ability to extract the conceptual content of a body of text by establishing associations between those terms that occur in similar contexts. LSI is also an application of correspondence analysis, ...

Is there a good, sophisticated englang with extremely strict predicate logic grammar that isn't mature yet and doesn't try to become a natlang?

user259867
Biological terms come from either Plant or Bacteria kingdoms. The question is which are which.

user259867
If one simply picks those with letter "y", all plants are there but some bacteria also qualify.

user259867
If instead, one uses rank-4 truncated SVD of that matrix, there is a clear separation in the "y" column between bacteria and plants.

user259867
The reason is that SVD picks up context (letters p,h,t,a also appearing with "y").

user259867
3:29 AM

user259867
Red: frequency of "y" in a word. Blue: same with adjustment by SVD truncation.

user259867
The five "y"-containing bacterial things get sent to the bottom, to the rest of bacteria. Only plants appear above the black line.
