So, the cleverly chosen careers.stackoverflow.com/search will be... stackoverflow.com/jobs/search I guess

12:43 AM
hi guys

'evening
former Candidate Wob

Yeah
My close friends have told me I'm too immature to be a moderator, and I'm fairly inactive, so I thought it reasonable to not run this year

I never even got to ask you what your opinions were on building a wall

:D
I tried being trump the first election
didn't work out
@Shog9 I've never come around to asking you what your profile picture is about

"about"?

12:47 AM
Yes

no one told me they were supposed to tell stories
so I just used a picture of my head
why not?

i need to see this at a higher resolution
ah okay
i thought it was like a head with no eyes

user259867
Being a Pokémon, you have a case for moderatorship at Japanese Language... they are still trying to find the 4th candidate they need for election to take place.

yeah... Especially if you know Japanese

heh
one of my friends knows japanese
i decided against learning it with him :(

12:53 AM
if it's your alter-ego @Doorknob, then tell him to run.

@Shog9 I wish. He's a Korean-American mix.
though i don't think he can speak korean, just write it
i mean, i don't think he knows the words... he knows Hangul

It may not be all that socially-acceptable, but I'm pretty sure Koreans aren't actually physically incapable of learning Japanese

@TheWob-buffet your "close friends" don't sound very supportive

@Shog9 The friend I'm talking about who knows Japanese is actually Korean, lol
@SantaClaus You're right, they're not :P (It was one not-close friend and one close friend... not putting out names)
it doesn't feel that long since the last election... just the one before where I got a shirt that doesn't fit me anymore

@TheWob-buffet Well, unless they are in the tavern we wouldn't really know them anyway...speaking of which, it would be nice to have multiple close friends in the tavern...

12:58 AM
I'm still a bit salty that I ordered the Stack Overflow things but got SuperUser things

we know where your REAL allegiance lies

@SantaClaus I think you've figured one of them out ;)
@Shog9 :/...

@TheWob-buffet looks to nearest doorknob

@SantaClaus looks at doorhandle, thinks hard

I actually spent ~7 seconds staring at the doorknob

1:01 AM
My computer science AP class is a waste of time... but I joined it for the AP credits. The teacher doesn't let us do stuff when we finish, he makes us read further in the book... but I know everything in the book

*sigh*
I thought it was one of those classes that's for intermediate knowledge, because there is also intro to computer science
@SantaClaus did it have a doorhandle
do doorknob-doorhandle comboes exist?

@TheWob-buffet Ooh, I'm taking APCS right now as well, what book do you use?
@TheWob-buffet Uh, it had a doorknob

@SantaClaus It's called blue pelican

@TheWob-buffet I HATE THAT BOOK

Are you also a freshman?

user259867

1:04 AM
@TheWob-buffet Soph.

@SantaClaus Ah, my class is for seniors but i told my counselor I can already program

Luckily teacher doesn't like the book, so we aren't really using it that much

@SantaClaus why the hate for the book, tho?
Anyway, since I didn't know Java I was kind of scared of skipping to AP, but I was able to successfully guess Java methods and syntax, and I got the second highest score in a competition deciding test and now I can go to UIL and competitions and stuff

@TheWob-buffet The examples are outdated and are not relatable.

@SantaClaus Oh yeah, my teacher says he doesn't want to use it but it's what the school gave him... we just do the lesson exercises
you know, it kind of shows... in school computer science you learn things the best way, but if you teach yourself you learn a hell ton faster... our class has been on while loops for 4 days

1:08 AM
@TheWob-buffet Same, but the school doesn't care what textbook we use (since blue pelican is free anyway -- with the caveat that all our pdfs are watermarked "EVALUATION COPY")

lol
@SantaClaus Has your class had a problem where your quizzes and tests are poorly worded? Ours aren't multiple choices and are rather ambiguous

We have an "Intro to Java" semester class where they teach syntax, control flow statements, and some other basic stuff. So my AP class is already onto arrays and sorting algorithms. Almost to recursion.

@SantaClaus That is our AP year 2... I'm going to ask for the AP test this year tho ;-;
It's kind of amazing that y'all are jumping from arrays to recursion
then my class is 3 times slower than yours curriculum-wise ;-;
Wait Wooble's out of the election?

@TheWob-buffet All of the tests and quizzes I've taken have been part multiple choice and part extended response ("write a class that does x") or short answer ("write a code snippet that takes array myInts and sorts it using bubble sort"). Unfortunately, some of the multiple choice questions have been controversial among students.

@SantaClaus Better than our questions

This is the first year our school has had a computer science class, so I think that's why the teacher's moving slow... also half the kids in my class are failling, and they only allowed Seniors to start in it and not go to intro
other than me, i was an exception
that's why we started from the absolute beginning

@TheWob-buffet Wellll, I'm fairly sure we are going to do recursion for binary search

@SantaClaus Oh yeah XD
are y'all doing Java? I'm assuming

@TheWob-buffet Isn't that the only option for the AP test?

@SantaClaus I've no idea, but for us, yeah

@bjb568 Right, jQuery === JS.

@hichris123 jQuery is a subset of pieces of JS code

A real terminal is d8. :P

@bjb568 REAL programmers use 3 equal signs instead of 2

node -i

@TheWob-buffet Real JS programmers are masters of type coercion.

(d8 is a V8 shell)

@bjb568 REAL js programmers know when they are comparing two strings :P

1:25 AM
@TheWob-buffet Real JS programmers use == anyway, because JS is a type loose language so it doesn't matter.

user259867

Q: Does using == in JavaScript ever make sense?

Robert HarveyIn JavaScript, the Good Parts, Douglas Crockford wrote: JavaScript has two sets of equality operators: === and !==, and their evil twins == and !=. The good ones work the way you would expect. If the two operands are of the same type and have the same value, then === produces true and !== p...

@bjb568 fine :P

I almost always use == in my code.
It's like if (req.method == 'POST') — How can this ever go wrong?
['P', 'R', 'N', 'M'].indexOf(post.type) == -1 How can this?
But if I ever did need to do does user input make sense I could do something more obscure like input.value == 0.

@TheWob-buffet Real programmers don't use languages that have 3 equals signs.

:= and = are best operators
Or even better, no assignment, just increment.

Someone was on that fast.

@bjb568 Ah, I see. I remember having to use some forums when I was new and couldn't structure my questions good enough and the answers were too smart for me

I'll have it be like +1/-1 rep for votes on questions but +10/-5 on answers to encourage people to generate meaningful content and not vamp-repwhore.
@TheWob-buffet I'm trying to make DD's asking process more guided than here's a textbox, enter exactly what we expect you to

Your site can take all the closed questions from this site :)

meeeeh

that way the close vote queue will be less full all the time :P

Thing T. Thing, often referred to as just Thing, is a fictional character in the The Addams Family series. Thing was originally conceived as a whole creature (always seen in the background watching the family) that was too horrible to see in person. The only part of him that was tolerable was his human hand (this can be seen in the 1964 television series. The Addams called him "Thing" because he was something that could not be identified. Thing was changed to a disembodied hand for the 1991 and 1993 Addams Family movies. In Spain it was called Cosa ("Thing") while in other Spanish-speaking countries...
