This FPS has the most amazing graphics...

And there it is, the witching hour. Good night all!

g'nite @ircmaxell

grumble grumble east-coasters

yes, we live in the future
tonight's california lottery numbers will be 1-9-4-2-2

I think I'll pop into the mod chat room and ask random how Christmas Eve is.

10:09 PM
@Michael Myers your domain WHOIS lacks a state
"Norman, US"

That's funny. I can't read the record here at work (because, of course, the whois URL ends with a .com and .com means an executable file), but I thought I filled it all out. Not that I mind the omission.
Anyway, it's not really my domain.

/blame hostgator

I intentionally left out my exact location on my SO profile.

Why? And isn't giving out your domain with non-private WHOIS the same thing?
I'm probably the only person on SO to ever look for your location, but...

My IP is visible to moderators of any Stack Exchange site that I've registered on.

10:16 PM
You should assume your IP is visible to anyone on the internet :p

@DanGrossman Non-private WHOIS? There's such a thing as a private one?

Oh gawd it hurts!

Technically no, in practice yes. All the major registrars offer it.

@DanGrossman My work IP is... a lot more precise than I would like.
My home IP is in another state.

@DanGrossman Wrong rural town again, hah.

10:18 PM
The domain WHOIS will say "WhoisGuard Protected" or similar... that's actually the name of the company that really owns the domain, and leases it to you.

What's in the image? It's blocked here.

You can't see images?

Only from whitelisted domains. Curiously enough, Imgur is whitelisted.
I suspect IT hangs out on reddit or something.

oh, I see
I can't think of a way to exploit that for my purposes
the image was a script that prints out your IP on an image ;)

Oh. Remind me never to visit your site at work; I'm picturing you going through the logs and figuring out who each visitor is.

10:22 PM
hehe

Ugh.
It's my first time working with someone else's code
And it's HORRIBLE!

I'd be the person to fear that from

Sporadically commented, inconsistent formatting

I literally do go through the logs and figure out who each visitor is. Except I don't do it manually, I wrote W3Counter to do it for me.

@DanGrossman I'll... look at that later.

10:23 PM

<~ spying on a few million people a day, every day, for a living!
eww, Safari
nice, FIOS

How many hits do you average?

track a few million a day

Erm, any tips?

@Moshe Press the code cleanup button that makes your IDE fix all the indenting

10:27 PM
Ah, young padawan, you have just begun to learn.

@DanGrossman - Not sure how serious you are. heh. In Xcode.

I don't remember where, but I know I've used editors that had such a button

It's not that, it's the way he did things.

Visual Studio does, as do all the Java IDEs I've tried.

Well, it honestly is, but the data is ridiculous.
Sporadic comments and random stuff.

10:29 PM
<~ spying on someone trying to use a stolen credit card on one of his ecommerce sites
...through an open proxy, failing all the automated fraud checks

@DanGrossman - Really? Cool.

#ifdef GENERATE_DATA
^Meaning?

it triggered an automatic phone verification I coded, which he also failed, since he doesn't have a phone number in the same country he's claiming to be in (USA)

@Moshe Um, do you know the language you're working in?

10:30 PM
@Moshe "if defined [symbol] execute the following"?

@MichaelMyers - Yes, it's objective-C for iOS
I'm trying to figure out what he's trying to do here.
@DanGrossman - Yea, but I'm trying to understand the context.
I guess I was not being realistic by expecting neat, comment code.

Looks like C/C++ header files, always have those #IFNDEF up top so they're only defined once even if multiple things depend on and include them

And I should have known. Oversleeping and then scraping my finger on the ceiling is not a way to start my day

I don't know objective-c though

Okay, thanks
Hey, the original author's name is in here - should I just get in touch with him?

10:33 PM
Hello, @sudo rm -rf
Nice name, and avatar.

Do you read Hacker News?

@Moshe (no comment in reply to your empty post)

@MichaelMyers Busted

I already commented on that story, as you might have noticed.
(if not, you're not as good of a stalker as I thought.)

Hello

10:43 PM
I read your comment and completely failed to connect it to you here

How goes @Tyler?

@DanGrossman \o/

HELL HATH NO FURY LIKE 3 TURTLE DOVES AND A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE

3 turtle doves?

@MichaelMyers Don't mind Tyler. Like most of us, he's a little insane... ;-)

10:47 PM
But I don't want to go among mad people

We're not angry, we just go star-crazy around these parts ;-)

oh
Sorry, I missed the reference. I am kinda burnt out at the moment ;-)

11:13 PM
o:
That's just teasing to come back and see (removed) (;

I'm all curious now.

@RebeccaChernoff Oh you have no idea what you missed!!!

it was the most amazing image EVAR

I had to censor the image :)

11:14 PM
@waffles To prevent people knowing you pasted it wrong? Er, oops...
I let the cat out of the bag

Hehe. I've been toying with the idea of morphing the userscript into a full blown extension and using the desktop notification api

OK. Time to go gent drunk. Later everyone!

:) there was not TOP secretz stuff there

@waffles What will you do to people who opened it in a new tab before you removed it?

@TheUnhandledException Looks like you may be a bit already, "genting" drunk ;) Enjoy!

11:16 PM
no big loss ... you get to see half a method @balpha was not happy with
anyway ... prism

@TimStone I notice you perk right up at the mention of alcohol ;-)

You are a url?
Or you are a website?

@TheUnhandledException Yeah, I'm starting to wonder if that's a bad thing. :P

@TheUnhandledException This really shouldn't surprise you by now.

@RebeccaChernoff This is true :-)

11:17 PM
I like to have a good time, what can I say?

Have a good one @Tim and @Rebecca :-)

See ya

it means that when I am furiously shutting down web browsers I do not shut down chat ... chat get a separate icon
and .... possibly systray @mention notifications if I can figure out how to hook it up

@waffles Do you often furiously shut down web browsers? :P

ALL THE TIME

11:18 PM
Then calm down.
You'll pull a muscle or something.

Huh? What are we editing?
Oh, that's a link too.

Of course.

You didn't want to post your own answer? (:

I almost always back up my vagaries with links ;)
I didn't want to steal your thunder. :P

11:26 PM
Not really sure I have any thunder to steal. (;

Hahah. I actually thought David might post the link following the tag edit, but it seems not. :)
parses HTML content with regex

That's actually one of my main pet-peeves on Meta. Questions that have status-completed, but no answer. So they just stick around for Community to bump unless someone goes in and adds a This is done answer. Much easier to just add a blurb about what was done when you add the tag.
But since I'm not the one adding status-completed around here... (;

YES x 1000
That bugs me so much!

I can change it so we do not bounce status-completed stuff
post a meta request

Hmm, I'm pretty sure there's already a status-declined on that...
looks
But still, it'd be nice if whenever there's a status-* tag added, there's also an answer added. (;

11:32 PM
Fix typo on website .... answer ... I fixed the typo on website
HUGE value

Don't be silly, typos are never fixed because Jeff beats people up for mentioning them ;)

with his pluralization stick ...

Having an answer with a checkmark adds value, sure it's silly sometimes, but iunno.
Still looking for that post...

Q: On Meta, Have Community Ignore [status-*] Tags When Bumping

EricJust ran across this post, which was bumped by Community for having been unanswered. However, it was answered by Jeff (no upvotes), along with a status-declined tag. I gave an upvote so that it wouldn't be bumped again. But, Community should ignore those posts, since they have an official answer....

@TheUnhandledException hey I just keep popping in and out today, was all over the place today and heading to a party now.

A: On Meta, Have Community Ignore [status-*] Tags When Bumping

Jeff Atwoodcompleted stuff should have at least one answer with an upvote, so we know our "completion" wasn't total B.S. that everyone hates.

hehehehe

11:35 PM
lol
yeah Jeff feels strongly about this ... and I don't ... I say leave the status-quo

Though, if it was total bs that everyone hates, there'd be an answer with upvotes...it'd just disagree.

I actually agree with him to an extent, though sometimes if the fix is immediate and there's really no room for discussion, posting a whole answer seems a bit much.

I'm ok with an answer "this'll go out in the next build"
shrugs
Again, not the one status-completing, I guess I can imagine that'd be annoying for you. Though sometimes I see short posts like that.

Well, and what do you even write in cases like this:

Q: Meta questions inaccessible

Yi JiangI was looking through questions on MSO tagged 10k-tools, but when I hit the second page a lot of the questions were giving me this: Just a few examples: A deleted question that was locked doesn't appear in the "recently deleted" list Make the flag count disappear after flags are viewed in ...

Although I actually think I told Marc just to pretend like Yi Jiang was crazy and that they were always accessible, but. :P

its begining to look a lot like christmas

Q: Is there a complete prism bundle for chat?

wafflesI just discovered prism: http://prism.mozillalabs.com/ It allows you to convert web apps into desktop applications. You define a bundle, and then can launch your webapp as though it was a desktop application. There are a bunch of advantages here (as related to chat): Chat gets its own ic...

If someone has, I've been thinking about it for naught.
Though, you want chat without the userscript? >_<

what userscripts ?

No one should chat without the userscript

THE userscript @waffles. THE userscript.
2

well you could still have them/it with prism
it allows you to customize CSS and JS ...

11:42 PM
Ah, well, then that's OK. :P

... I think I can hear it ... a "holiday" version of chat

check out the readme, it's mostly about the chat userscript.
@waffles have you met @YiJiang?

shakes head

:) well I am hoping somebody could hook me up here

11:45 PM
8 hours ago, by Yi Jiang
http://www.jsfiddle.net/yijiang/rrGYW/2/embedded/result I've added Oyify to the list
@waffles We had a lot we wanted to add to chat :P
Which reminds me of those other things I had meant to put in... makes note

@waffles ):
I'm sure there's ways to organize it better that might clean it up a bit, but I don't really have much experience writing organized js stuff. Give me OOP. ):

@RebeccaChernoff Well, we all kind of took different design approaches anyway, which complicated things a bit :P

it looks fine ... very readable

@TimStone Yeah, that too, hehehe.
It is very very far from the tiny original file I started.
Though I'm very pleased that people have contributed. (:
Also, @waffles, you should just use Chrome so that all you do is right click on a tab and say Create application shortcut
rather than a separate thingadongdong like Firefox+Prism.
q:

@RebeccaChernoff but will that support tray notifications?

11:53 PM
Well, no. q:

and a "proper" separate windows icon that is not grouped with chrome?

But that's why I was thinking about converting the userscript into full blown extensions so I could add that.
@waffles It does do that, yes.
The nice thing about the userscript now is that it just works in both Chrome and Firefox. Convert it to an extension and then there's messy differences and maintaining those differences.

Are Chrome extensions written in JavaScript too?

Something I've been looking into, because I do think an extension would be nice so people can choose the features they want as there's quite a bit tossed in there now that isn't necessarily related. And then we could even combine SEKeyboardShortcuts with SEChatModifications with SEModifications into a single extension.

sure ... but the prism stuff is great as a standalone solution ... you simply have one zip file that contains the whole environment

11:55 PM
But...yeah...getting a bit out into left field for what you're going for @waffles, heh.

single click to launch

So long for today. Won't be back until Monday, probably.

Have a nice holiday @MichaelMyers!

yeah ... enjoy

11:56 PM
Hahah, @RebeccaChernoff, we're going with [status-denied]? ;)
(re: GitHub labels)

Well I just want stuff to work like my skype window ... is it much to ask?

You want it to crash when supermegaultraawesome nodes aren't available?

systray + systray notifications + separate icon + separate process ... easy

I kid Skype, I kid, we all loves you.

also I really want MEGASUPERNODES
