Well, this is hopeful. I flagged another self-promoter, and that flag was deemed helpful, and the self-promoting answers are removed.

user163250
Yeah, I'm still curious about what the opinion about self-promotion like that is on Meta.

user163250
I mean in your own content.

Oh wait...

There should be stuff about that one guy...

Q: Limits for self-promotion in answers

Michael MrozekIt's been covered before that posting links to your own website is ok, but should there be a line drawn? There were several spam flags today for Ira Baxter's recent posts, presumably because they all link to his website. Initially I disagreed because his answers seem for the most part relevant to...

Oh, I forgot I don't need to do that for manually reported posts.

I've quoted that faq a dozen or more times when interacting with self-promoters
But just linking to your blog seems less clear to me, since it's unclear if that counts as promotion

user163250
I'd say it does.

user163250
So if you link to your own blog, you have to disclose the fact that it's your blog.

user163250
And if a large percentage of your posts link back to it...that's a problem.

Yeah, I suppose it's easy enough to say it's your blog

7:05 AM
He says so in his user about me

Q: Is promoting one's own product always spam?

HappyCoderConsider this answer. The user seems to promote his/her own toolkit as a response to the question. Even the profile description of the user says that moderators have flagged/deleted posts in the past. How should one deal with such posts? Flag? If yes, then what? If not, what then? EDIT: Even ...

user163250
Good, it wasn't deleted.

user163250
Apparently "59%" is the threshold for "this is a problem", lol

user163250
7:11 AM
> If a "huge percentage" (59 is considered huge) of your posts mentions or links to your product, you're under suspicion. -- source

"59 is considered huge" - I interpret that to mean the threshold is lower, 59% is just way beyond it.
But it's not really about numbers. If Linus Torvalds were to answer a number of questions about Linux, and link all of them to the kernel source code... it would probably not be a problem.

user163250
I don't know, that doesn't seem to be unnecessary self-promotion.

user163250
Like, the topic of the question is your product.

I think that's they keyword - unnecessary .

@SPArchaeologist Good point. You'd want to be sure that you've destroyed all the socks above 15 rep though.
...come to think of it, you only need 2 accounts to start voting fraud. One to post a fake question and one to answer it. Then the first accounts accepts the answer and BAM, one account with 15 rep and voting rights.
Wasn't there a discussion lately about increasing the rep required to vote...? This would be one reason for raising it.

7:56 AM
@S.L.Barth yup, I remember a sock puppet ring of ~10 accounts, which caused spam to reach the Hot Network Questions list. (each account had over 100 rep, some more than 300, before they were all nuked)

user163250
> At the end of this timed suspension period, your reputation will be recalculated, and your account will resume as normal. We don't hold grudges. The point of all this is to address the behavior. If the behavior improves, you are welcome back.

**This should probably go without saying, but if the problem behaviors do continue beyond the timed suspension, your account is very likely to be permanently deleted.**

@Xeo The rest isn't going to happen. Doing full markdown parsing on long multiline messages can be costly and it opens up the path for trolls to be extra annoying. Chat isn't intended for posting long fully-formatted messages. — Anna Lear ♦ Aug 15 '13 at 15:49

I think the confusion is because the careers ad links to a page to sign up to be a freelancer, using that site to find work. So it's not an ad to work for that company directly per say, but to possibly find work by being a member of that site.
