also, preparing stuff like tripe can be... pretty off-putting. The smell, man.

For instance, beef tongue is delicious and not particularly unpleasant to prepare

but I know a few folks who simply won't touch it because... Well, it's recognizable

I've heard nothing since, didn't get invited to the Facebook event, and wouldn't have heard about it if I wasn't tagged in a friend sharing the event.
