@chmod711telkitty Makes sense to me. A security/privacy application often needs full control over the memory it uses.

Plus Python, Java, JavaScript etc are all pretty much toys compared to C

@PeterJ If you're trying to start a language war, I must politely decline the invitation.

Your surrender is accepted :P

@SmokeDetector Hm.... not sure what to make of that. That user asked one question that could have been spam bait.
@PeterJ I only sign peace treaties written in Haskell! :-P

@SmokeDetector I flagged as spam. It's not free.

I liked it

@SPArchaeologist Paul Graham says that all programming languages are like Lego: twitter.com/paulg/status/609007907045306368
So, C and JavaScript are both toys now. Let's play!

@S.L.Barth who said toy? I said chestnut bur. Something to be handled with care and knowing what you are doing.... unless you like thorns in your hands.

If Normal Bot automatically favorited every question by a user with >=1K rep would that be considered abuse?

@UnitedStatesOfAmerica Why?

@NormalHuman You're just following a user, giving out a free badge every once in a while
The favourite question badge

user259867
One favorite per question does not give a badge.

user259867
Also, favorites = bookmarks. Shouldn't I be able to bookmark whatever I want?

But with enough of that, it can start giving out badges very quickly

user259867
2:53 PM
Well, running multiple bots wasn't in the hypothetical setup.

user259867
And that would definitely be abuse.

user259867
If I did this with Normal Bot, then Normal Human would have to refrain from favoriting at all.

I don't think many people will use bots to favorite things.
So it's unlikely that anyone will get the Favorite Question or Stellar Question badge due to this bot... when they wouldn't get it otherwise.

@DroidDev Sure! On it.

@ProgramFOX Thanks :)

I don't think the badge argument is strong. By viewing questions I also have potential to contribute to badges. Nobody yet said that targeting a user by reading their questions is wrong.

@bjb568 Fine with me. In the few tests I did it didn't show a green bar for short passwords or no bar for very long passwords so that is all fine. When it get's very short the number isn't readable anymore but it conveys the info that is relevant so +1 from me, if you care about that....

@bjb568 I could see a few problems with that. Would it not be easier to just give them fields for the a, b and c values?
Otherwise you'll have to parse every version of the expansion, and users won't know if they should enter "x*x" or x2... or how.

Q: What can/should I do when my flags have 'unusually' been pending for too much time?

inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.MIn a site I'm active in, moderators approve when a user flags some old comments as "obsolete", "too chatty" etc. (All such flags I've raised have been marked helpful) It's a relatively small community, and thus flags don't piled up like they do in SO. I imagine flagging such ancient comments isn'...

Hope this turns out as well as I hope it to be.

Q: Scope of esters tag

bonTL;DR As a continuation to efforts of setting the functional tags right (see here for background and more info) we need to gather community consensus on what the scope of esters should be. Since esters has now been created I set about writing a tag wiki for it. I have only included carboxylate...

@Rene I didn't repro while CW'ing two of the answers in that post.
Oh wait.
It wasn't I who asked the question . . .
So it's not the same situation.

I just repo-ed it

Yep, I get it - in Firefox. Ask question > check "answer your own question" > check "community wiki", confirmation dialog will pop up twice.

@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M People get busy; pretty much nothing happens that you need a mod ASAP. In the (rare) case, there are CMs... and there's also spam/offensive flags.

9:05 PM
So I just should wait?

Yeah probably.
Especially if it's only comment flags.
I've put off handling some of those. ;)

There isn't a SLA between users and mods ...

@hichris That's awkward phrasing and possibly unnecessary since it's just CSS… inside an iframe.
