Today's xkcd comic (Exoplanet Names 2):

@xkcdBot just me or the image looks... odd

@xkcdBot ... it has Netherlands VI so I'm happy now..

user259867
Since when is Randall going about Netherlands? It started in some What If?

user259867
Yes, it began with What If 53, published on July 9, 2013.

4:23 PM
@Braiam looks odd to me

mm... maybe the xkcd was messed up?

I've difficulties to see how this answers the question: english.stackexchange.com/a/262103/30774

just trolling, I suppose

But why is explainxkcd smoothened right?

user259867

@bjb568 Look it up on explainexplainxkcd

user259867
Seriously: they grabbed the image when it appeared, and later something was done to the xkcd version, intentionally or not.

@SmokeDetector tpu-
@SmokeDetector tpu- as well

user259867
I think it might be intentional, to give the table "old scanned document" look.

user259867
Since the comic is about adding more stuff to an old table.

user259867
4:42 PM
But I was wrong... and xkcd version is back to normal now: imgs.xkcd.com/comics/exoplanet_names_2.png

Matthew, you pretty much nailed it. I too do not believe the button is well-suited to generating useful traffic. After suggestions of building a better landing page experience were nixed, I asked to remove the button completely. It was said the button brings in too much traffic... but I don't think any of that traffic is terribly useful. Deep linking into this site from a "discuss this patent" link (without any further context) simply leads to virtually all of those "questions" being closed. It's a bad end-user (and community) experience for all. It's unfortunate, but that's where we're at. — Robert Cartaino ♦ 24 mins ago

user259867
That explains something about Patents. Instead of being a very slow, but normal, beta, it's just a constant stream of people not realizing where they are, and leaving after their question is closed.

Or not even knowing where they were... or not even caring.

both, they don't care where they drop their content, just to solve their issue

@NormalHuman The Netherlands cross the new land bridge into North America. I very much like the idea...

@rene I wonder if that would lower the shipping costs/waiting time

we would have to rethink shipping as it has no use anymore...

No, that was a different thing.

@3ventic I now know after breaking yet another test262 test for Chrome -- test262's website is still on the ES5.1 test, and engines are implementing ES6 features, possibly breaking the test in the meantime. (although there is an updated ES6 version... not sure why that's not the website. github.com/tc39/test262)

@hichris123 I'm sure that it's a bug:
> test262 is not yet complete. It is still undergoing active development. Some portions of the ES5 specification have very complete test coverage while other portions of the specification have only partial test coverage. Some tests may be invalid or may yield false positive or false negative results. A perfect passing score on test262 does not guarantee that a JavaScript implementation perfectly supports ES5.

@Braiam You mean that it's not the ES6 version? I think they just haven't updated it yet.

We are currently spinning down CenturyLink as an ISP for all sites, all traffic is moved over to other ISPs to minimize any discruption.

Am I right, here?
Let me get this straight. You don't know what a "Professional Society" is, and you're asking is SO is one? I'm sorry, but I'll have to vote to close as unclear, as the question is pretty much unanswerable (at least until you pick a well-defined definition) — Shokhet 2 mins ago

....so you do have a definition you'd like to use? — Shokhet 7 secs ago

Never mind....
@Shokhet and answered

@hichris123 No, I mean that maybe IE having higher scores in test262 is due the test itself being buggy/flawed

I don't think that allowing each answerer their own definition of "professional society" is okay, because how are you (and us, those who vote on the answers) supposed to know if a specific answer has answered the question? — Shokhet 14 mins ago
@Shokhet Yeah! You are right. But I am also looking for some other views! Just in case anyone else had a different view to a professional society during their college, because the definition isn't mine anyway, but somehow fits. — user007 9 mins ago
....should I roll back that question to revision 2?

user259867
Yes, it makes sense since it's just a substitution: "8d" gets replaced by 2015-07-16. Still goes against the idea of "created 6-8 days ago". Maybe it's the language that should be fixed.

user259867

I think is more like "Created between today-minus-8-days and today-minus-6-days"

A: Improving our navigation, the next iteration

200_successI appreciate your attempt to improve navigation, but this interface is super confusing. I've been playing around with it for 10 minutes and I don't understand how it works. The primary navigation element appears to be "new / popular / need answers" — effectively three "tabs" — on the left. Why...

Okay, opting out of the new nav.

Or to random words, like at every occurrence in the post.

maybe we should disable the [tag] formatting on main sites
