Interesting question: Are questions about Chrome OS on-topic? by fixer1234 on meta.superuser.com

user259867
I'm kind of hoping they are... because there is no obviously better site to put them on, and creating a separate site for Chromebooks doesn't seem reasonable.

user259867

@SmokeDetector fp-

@NormalHuman I think that the only underserved would be the ones that have hardware questions, since (if I'm not mistaken) every app is just a clone of the google apps

user259867
@Braiam There are many applications that run on Chrome OS and are not Google apps. My favorite text editor Caret, for example.

user259867
Most of these do run require Chrome OS, and can be used elsewhere in Chrome. But Chrome is on topic at SU anyway.

if we go that route, your question is equally on topic on UL, AU, AskDifferent, etc.

@NormalHuman at which point the OS you run becomes irrelevant

user259867
True, which makes such topics most suitable for a site that's not OS specific...

then you don't even need a chrome-os tag, or even mentioning the OS

user259867
12:49 AM
The functionality may be different; after all, the editor works with locally stored files. I haven't encountered practical differences between Caret/Chrome/Windows and Caret/Chrome/Chrome OS, but perhaps I wasn't paying attention.

user259867
Anyway, I've never asked a question on Super User and don't expect beginning to ask... I somehow tend to not have computer problems.

the majority of my questions are either, self answer or conceptualizations

@PatrickHofman that is an interesting problem I haven't considered.
Do you think it is better to replicate the question?

@SPArchaeologist I would create a new question and point to the bug in Android as possibly the same problem (it might just be an API fix, be we don't know)

fell free to edit and/or rollback. I will also have a question to see how the rest of the community (and hopefully the staff) feel about this kind of issue.

Duck test is a humorous term for a form of inductive reasoning. This is its usual expression: If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck. The test implies that a person can identify an unknown subject by observing that subject's habitual characteristics. It is sometimes used to counter abstruse, or even valid, arguments that something is not what it appears to be. == HistoryEdit == Indiana poet James Whitcomb Riley (1849–1916) may have coined the phrase when he wrote: When I see a bird that walks like a duck and swims like a duck and quacks...

@ProgramFOX Registered question as false positive and added title to Bayesian doctype 'good'.

I've got a random question for anyone in the USA, based on some US TV I've seen would a typical person answer any question from a police officer with sir? Say you're a normal citizen and get pulled up for something trivial like a broken tail light or 10mph over the limit would you say "yes sir", "no sir" etc when asked if you had a license or warrants etc?

1:44 PM
@PeterJ It all depends on how much trouble they think they are in, and whether or not they naturally end with "sir" when speaking to authorities

I am really thinking of moving my chat room... If I can just have Howl lend me Calcifer, that is.

@Kevin, thanks just made me wonder. Just I've seen it so much on US programs like Cops and pretty much anything involving police I wondered if how common it was. I don't think in Australia I've ever really heard it and not the sort of thing it would occur to me to say, unless they did something really epic like literally save my life.
