Until they do a full code audit for inappropriate function calls and correct them all, this is going to keep happening again and again and again. @Doon What do you think his actual question is, then? The title is what library should I use? Then asks are there any good libraries, then Any good tutorials to implement this? @bjb568 I'm curious about the case where you need to achieve a possible roll of 0-100 (which is 101 possible values.) Those two dice can't do that.

1:22 PM
You can prevent battles (via this privilege, anyway) by limiting which questions can be closed in this way, as I laid out in my answer. Don't enable further oscillation; that's no good for anybody. A close-hammer should apply once per question, not every time a privileged user comes along and disagrees with the state of the question. — Monica Cellio 28 mins ago
Can someone tell me if they're serious? The statement sounds really silly to me.

@LynnCrumbling Ya kant

@Unihedron If we follow current convention, a question can be closed.. reopened.. and closed again via 5 votes in each direction...
Unsure why a close hammer would behave any differently.

@Unihedron I agree. It sounds silly.

In other words, there should be a re-open hammer, no?
And - I think a USER should be able to use a closehammer once.
but only for that question; and other users should be able to closehammer it if it gets reopened.
(Just like I can only cast a single close vote on a question.)
Now - the bigger question -- Does my close hammer "use up" my close vote, too?
I'd think so.
It's still a cv. Just with more strength.
@bjb568 Didn't think so.

I'm not even going to participate in that thread anymore, the entire idea is stupid and users downvote my answer without reading.

Q: Long time lurker, first time questioner

BoomI am currently working on a project which has some requirements for VBA. The data is found in excel. What I need to ask/bounce ideas off of is for a way to write some code that will abide to the following conditions: where Xmw and Ymw are in megawatt, and X and Y are generation plants 2000=Xmw+...

To sum off my rant, I describe your values as generous because they are. More users would get this privilege than there needs to be, at that point it would be just as effective to appoint more moderators. — Unihedron 39 secs ago
ok that's my last comment

That Excel question makes no sense.
@Unihedron s/sum off/sum up ?
@Unihedron So, you're taking the stance that a closehammer is too powerful for a non-mod to have?

1:35 PM
1
A: Let's give very-trusted users a Closehammer to go with their Dupehammer

UnihedronI like this idea. However, there are problems with the suggestion. Making closing incredibly easy for a sector of users means that they are treated as stewards for closing. (In case you didn't know, stewards are those with a heavy responsibility to look after someone's property.) As a result,...

I'm taking the stance that this entire idea is stupid.

@Unihedron I +1'd your and his; downvoted the question and monica's answer because I disagree that it is implementable, even with additional requirements.

How an answer like this gets over two upvotes will remain a mystery for me, as I no longer care about it.

Nothing to see here. Moving on.

1:40 PM
ok, lets part of the premise: do you believe that there's a need for a hammer for other close reasons?

:p
@Braiam No. It's unnecessary and doesn't improve site quality, like how the dupehammer allows tag experts to sort out their field without causing a loss of information.

mm... how 'closing bad questions fast so we can focus on the good ones' doesn't improve enforce site quality?

@Braiam The premise is wrong.
Closing is for off topic questions, not bad questions.

@Unihedron uh? a broad question can be on topic, but it's still too broad and therefore closed

@LynnCrumbling We have a dupe hammer for people who have gold badge on very specific tags on meta... like [Discussion] . Nothing new to see.

1:45 PM
@SPArchaeologist That's a dupehammer.

@Unihedron It's because everybody wants more power, and that answer pretends to be a way to give it to them. It's also because people are unhappy with the rep system sometimes, and that answer feels like a good suggestion despite just being a band-aid on a specific privilege. Like I said, votes are totally irrelevant on that entire topic. It's attracting the easy "down with the system" votes, which isn't going to get this feature implemented.

@SPArchaeologist You mean for dupes, right?

@LynnCrumbling yes, sorry. But the point was... [discussion]
(fixed original message)

@SPArchaeologist Yeah, I think dups are a very specific variation, and indeed SO does too.

1:47 PM
@JasonC ... So to make it short, the voters are stupid. :P

They won't get deleted; they remain as pointers to real content... synonyms.

@Unihedron To make it short, the voters are irrelevant.

I sometimes want duplicates to be deleted...

@JasonC ...
Things that affects reputation distribution is always relevant.

@Won't Do not mistake those who are requesting a rationale for people who disagree or "just don't get it". For this issue, upvotes will not get the feature implemented (and downvotes will not prevent it). SE is your target, not voting users. The SE team has shown themselves to excel at seeing the bigger picture. There are two main possibilities: SE already is on your side of the fence, in which case the feature eventually is implemented, no rationale necessary. Or: SE is not on your side of the fence, in which case you'll need a strong argument. However: Not providing an argument runs the... — Jason C 2 days ago
Target for this one is SE, not voters. Convincing voters that it's a good/bad idea will have no bearing on if or how it is implemented. Therefore, the voters are irrelevant.
