Pro-tip: don't run your CPU at 400% and then complain your stock charger can't handle it
3

@JonasCz If you're really interested, the runtime is here and the "compiler" (which is really just a parser) is here.

@hichris123 I don't have 5 cores.
@JanDvorak Well, that's what you have to do to run a flash game 600x400 at 30fps.

There's also a "standard library", but it's tiny. I wrote some other libs, like a regex library, but I never put them on github.

Er?

@AlexisKing It took me nearly a year of fumbling around with lemon to come up with a config 'language' that evaluated stuff independently of the shell. The parser was the easiest part to learn.

6:01 PM
My laptop charger is rated for 4.8A output.

@TimPost I just wrote a recursive-descent parser myself, mostly because my syntax was Lisp-y enough to be really easy to parse.
So I got to focus on semantics rather than syntax for the most part. :)

@ShadowWizard Yes; we'll see how it goes.

@bjb568 45W, not A obviously
about 15V @3A

@AlexisKing I said "I'm a horrible programmer" and table-flipped probably 20 times before I started learning how not to syntax myself into a very dark corner.

@bjb568 Then why's that say 37A?

6:04 PM
@hichris123 lower voltage

.... wat.

@TimPost I spent most of my head-desking in GDB trying to figure out why everything was segfaulting with no support for debugging information. :P

what voltage??? 0.1 volts?

I = V / R

1.8V on the CPU

6:04 PM
Or V = I * R

37A / 1.8V will kill your CPU

Come on give me some slack, I don't have any idea what I'm doing. I was 5 when I last played with those equations.

you brought these voltages here

Well, you're acting like you know what you're talking about, so..

user259867

Ooh! I just remembered that I wrote a full-blown exceptions system in C macros.
I really did hate myself. :P
#ifndef SOLERROR_H
#define SOLERROR_H

#include <stdlib.h>
#include <stdarg.h>
#include <setjmp.h>
#include <stdbool.h>

/* try, catch, finally */

#define SOL_TRY \
    for (int _sol_error_jmp_code = -1; _sol_error_jmp_code == -1;)                                  \
        if ((_sol_error_jmp_code = setjmp(_sol_error_try_frames[++_sol_error_try_frame_top])) == 0) \
            for (; 1; longjmp(_sol_error_try_frames[_sol_error_try_frame_top], -1))

#define SOL_CATCH(type, err) \
    else if (sol_error_get_current_error() && sol_error_extends_type(sol_error_get_current_error(), &(type)))

C macros aren't macros. They are a primitive text replace engine.

@AlexisKing so_many_underscores

6:09 PM
@JanDvorak I use Scheme. Believe me, I know what a real macro is.

@AstroCB How many characters would camel casing have saved?

@AstroCB stillBetterThanCamelCase

In all seriousness, I write all my C code with_underscores to fit the naming conventions.

@hichris123 unclear, migration reject

@bjb568 It's a fair MSO question if it can be reproduced. I'm assuming, however, that he just landed in the mobile site.

Q: Stack Overflow looks strange after arriving from a Google search

JohnThis issue appeared yesterday: whenever I search for any help on Google and arrive at a Stack Overflow page, it has a different look and feel. After some debugging in the browser console, I found that if I change the protocol to HTTPS, everything looks normal. I'm not sure why is this happening...

No, like really slow, 20 sec. to load stuff.

A: Stack Overflow looks strange after arriving from a Google search

MoosemanI'm assuming you landed on the mobile site for some reason. It probably looked something like this: There is a link in the footer to switch between the mobile site and the standard site.

Sounds right.

@JasonC Huh, I don't see why ?

False. Differentiable functions are locally linear.

user259867
f(x)=|x| is continuous, but near 0 is not very much linear.

user259867
Your argument could be stated a bit more precisely as sin(x) / (x + tan(x)) = (x+O(x^3)) / (x+x+O(x^3)) = (1+O(x^2)) / (2+O(x^2)) = 1/2+ O(x^2)... using Big O notation

With $\lim_{x\to 0} \frac{\sin(x)}{\sin(x)+\tan(x)}$, in my head I just simplify it to $\lim_{x\to 0} \frac{x}{x + x}$ because differentiable functions are locally linear. — bjb568 15 mins ago

Noun: ad hominem (plural ad hominems)
  1. A fallacious objection to an argument or factual claim by appealing to a characteristic or belief of the person making the argument or claim, rather than by addressing the substance of the argument or producing evidence against the claim; an attempt to argue against an opponent's idea by discrediting the opponent himself.
Adjective: ad hominem
