Today, we’re excited to announce that online registration is now open for Beyond Coding, a free new summer program designed to equip emerging computer programmers in New York City with professional skills needed to help them succeed in their first job working with code. The program, slated to launch June 11, is part of our collaboration with New York City’s Tech Talent Pipeline initiative to support the growth of the city’s tech ecosystem. And we’re thrilled to be taking part, along with some other top-notch New York startups: Crest CC, Foursquare, Kickstarter, Tumblr, and Trello. …

@Jaydles but again, that presumes other companies will hire more entry level talent, which other companies can consume downstream (after they get experience). The weak link in the chain is immediately obvious - the problem isn't entry level developer positions, it's senior positions. Adding 500k slightly educated coders to the NYC hiring environment won't help the problem at all. — enderland 13 mins ago

@Jaydles you don't have to read much of Stack Exchange though to pick up the "most software developers are [unqualified, terrible, bad, worthless, negative additions, etc]" vibe from the current pool of talent. Simply graduating more people who want money/easy jobs doesn't fill the need for talent. — enderland 1 min ago

Yeah, the blog post... it tends to be irritating to hear (usually from government-related sources) about immense, critical shortages of workers in the area in which you struggle to get a job.

user259867
Usually accompanied by "we need to teach more Scratch at schools, or else we're doomed" ... or: get more students to major in math, etc.

> shortage of workers
snorts

user259867
It's fine that SE are trying something, but plastering the network with an ad for NYC-localized gimmick is too much fanfare.

There's a shortage of programmers... to create crappy websites/apps.

Outsourced googling to SO -_-

7:51 PM
@bjb568 I can't wait until someone outsources SO itself. 'How do I write a question asking to fix this error?'

Why does it recap what it just said?
Notably while omitting vital details?

Maybe they have to get to the DC to switch something on that they switched off remotely...I did that once...

Even the error pages are borked now :-0

OK, who borked SE?

also:
@AlexanderChrisS yeah, we can fail over to “different failure” all INSTANT-like. Working hard to get back up asap!

9:29 PM
oh, dupe

They messed it up, that's what, and the failover cluster isn't also working, so likely a network error.

@rene did you try to delete Community by any chance? ;)

Perhaps they DoS'ed themselves again...

@ShadowWizard not only tried....

:P
just don't delete Feeds account, or else chat will go down as well... :D
