^ not the best question I ever saw

@yellowantphil I just look them uo in the OED. It always has something for his utterances, wot wot.

@tchrist Un regalo y un don son los mismos, ¿verdad?

@tchrist if I have learned anything, it’s to stick to MW
and if I have learned two things, it’s to always start uninames with PAGER=cat

@yellowantphil What are you doing with it that its pages are sticky?

@tchrist Look, if he's into that sort of thing, fine, but don't pry! It's impolite.

3:02 AM
you people

us people

we the people

@Doorknob No, not always. Se tiene un don de gentes, un don de lenguas. You could not use regalo there with the same sense. Ask @Braiam.
@AlexisKing If you pry, you might rip the pages.

The Tavern: it never let you down

> 3. m. Gracia especial o habilidad para hacer algo. U. t. en sent. irón.

3:05 AM
@Braiam It's definitely never gonna give you up, if that's what you're wondering.

Will it run around and desert you?

@yellowantphil PAGER=😽

I should symlink that

Unrelated: a friend of mine apparently just registered the domain name “flavor.zone” and is planning to make it into an ode to stereotypical late 90s web design.

3:08 AM
unfortunately, my terminal doesn't support Unicode.

@tchrist you mean: 📟=😽

@Doorknob Get a real terminal on a real OS.

@Doorknob I have an old vt220 that has the same problem.

@AlexisKing ah, references to a few hours ago. :P
But my OS is very real, at least I think it is.

@Doorknob In the Matrix. . . .

3:10 AM
@Doorknob can’t you get another terminal?

I am so tempted to write "Fuck you" on this spanish word search.

Homebrew just wouldn't be the same without emoji in its terminal outputs.

@SantaClaus Only if you can write it in Spanish.

P.S. plz don't get me banned for that message
@tchrist Fuck this
@tchrist If @Feeds were still around maybe it could help

@SantaClaus Castellano no lo es.

3:12 AM
Google translate says coger a esta

Bah.
There are at least 20 ways of saying it.

Something tells me expletives don't really literally translate very well.
2

You need an idiomatic translation, not a literal one.
jinx

@AlexisKing sure they do
sometimes

I think in middle school someone taught me “Cago en tu puto madre,” and I feel pretty set for life now.
3

3:14 AM
Vete a tomar por c***, c***ón.
@AlexisKing Poopy talk.

@tchrist 💩

@AlexisKing you should say "puta" otherwise you are saying that their mother is male... unless you want to add to the insult

@Braiam It's not an insult to the receiver... consider it more an insult to romance languages in general.

Oh, I remember people saying "puto madre" in elementary school. Obviously not spanish speakers.

@AlexisKing Me c*** en el asqueroso c**̃* de la p*** virgen que te parió.

3:17 AM
what is this, censorship?

@tchrist The best thing about knowing expletives in other languages is that I can't understand the responses, so I can't even get offended.

@bjb568 No, I stuck the tilde just where you needed it.

@tchrist I know what the * means... so I know spanish?

@Braiam Por lo visto. :)

Good luck typing *̃

@bjb568 That's a really specific thing to have bound to Command+V.

:p

3:20 AM
@bjb568 You’ve been warned about that before.

@tchrist easy, just Ctrl+C; Ctrl+V

Every time I type Control-C, it kills my lynx.

Aha, did it without copy/paste!
Just * + COMBINING TILDE. :)

Do some parents now a days usually ask their kids the "same" question after the kid asks them a question. Like the kid would say, "why is the sky blue?" and the parent would say , "have you tried googling it?". Then the kid would say "nope", and the parent says "Ok then, google it and let me know if you need help after you did your research". This question got me wondering.

3:46 AM
Not that I'm aware.

First their was the tv and parents demanding Saturday morning cartoons, and tv became a"babysitter" for many kids. Kids have a lot of questions usually, so it'd make sense that instead of answering 50 questions a day a parent could just teach them how to use google and then let google answer the questions. Thus taking the teaching respoinsibility off the parent's backs even more now
Like, I'm sure others and I encounter conversations all the time where someone asks something and you get asked or you say "I don't know, you should google it".
Lol, now I remember seeing that Conan skit with the teddy bear that answers kids questions by searching the internet.

@Roombatron5000 Cimmerians always think they're funny.
And really, who's going to argue with them -- twice?
@Roombatron5000 I've friends whose kids watch a half-hour, EACH!

@tchrist half-hour a day? that doesn't seem bad. Many kids watch like 2-4 hours a day

I expect brain rot to set in any day now, begging for toys and sweets and cigarettes.
@Roombatron5000 No, a week actually.

I'm putting a status-review on this so that I'm certain to keep noticing it in the weeks coming up as the 'official' quality initiative winds down in scope (we'll have done everything we set out to do for that round). We have additional just-in-time help capabilities that we haven't really advertised yet, and I want to circle back and identify 3 chronically problematic tags on at least 3 sites for a test case. I'll comment again when we get nearer to that point. — Tim Post ♦ 8 mins ago

the 'official' quality initiative winds down in scope .... has it achieved anything? Just curious.
