The reason this question is so gold is because of the posted image of the desired GUI.

@minitech Well, for example. Making changes with SVN: Edit files -> svn commit. Making changes with git: Edit files -> git commit -> git push [origin?] [branch name regardless of current branch?] -> enter login info every time. Adding a new branch with current changes: git checkout ("checkout" creates a new branch? what?) -> git stage (have to stage changes before commit...? why would you want this?) -> git commit -> git push [and respecify the branch you're already on].

@JasonC You don't need to stage changes before commit unless you want to, or you're adding new files. If you'd like to simply commit everything, you can use the git commit -a flag.

Git's UI is not the most friendly, but I am very glad it exists because it's a nice, flexible, tool.

Anonymous
(Though I do not use it at work, and am quite okay with that.)

4:44 AM
Meh. When I need the flexibility, I'm sure I'll appreciate it more.
Like, it's weird to me that -a is not the default, with a flag to do the opposite. I feel like "commit the changes I just made" would be a more common use case than "commit some of the changes I just made".

Anonymous
I've internalized it too much to be able to see it objectively. :P

But I also don't work on a lot of large / team projects. My expectations are very simplistic.

I personally prefer the git model because I like not shooting yourself in the foot to be the default. :P

It's also built into things like Xcode, so you don't have to do anything.

Yeah. I really enjoy using the staging area as a way to draft a commit bit by bit. I can experiment recklessly knowing I can easily roll-back the un-staged changes.

Without the V-2 program, the result may well have been that the war in Europe would have lasted months longer, another million people may have died, and the first city atomic bombed may have been Hamburg, not Hiroshima.
