J. MusserThere are no moderators in the community other than the SE staffers, at the moment. @Frank that sounds like a question that should rather be asked here on MSE, I think. otherwise we'd duplicate that on each new private beta, right?
(I can't read the actual question, don't have an account)
ah wait I can sign up through the area 51 link

user259867
@MartinBüttner Yes, but newly minted sites need something to get meta going. SE even encourages a standard set of questions to be posed on new betas.

user259867
5:14 PM
They need to establish their own meta as a way of asking and answering questions about the site.

@Woodface but those standard questions should ideally be used to shape some policies for the site, not necessarily duplicating something you might ideally be able to look up on MSE because it applies to all sites, surely?
oh wait, you're the one who answered it

Stats is a bit unusual in that 3 of the top 5 users by reputation are moderators. Now there is an election with 2 positions available... the choice should be obvious. And indeed, user #2 already nominated self.

user259867
Is there an SE site where the moderators are the top N users by rep (where N = number of moderators)?

@Woodface Oh, I actually have some interesting data about this. Let me find the graph...
It's a bit confusing at first; let me explain it
It shows how many of the top-rep users got elected on each election. So, for example, if users #1, #2, and #5 by rep got elected, it would fit in the "66%" category since 2/3 of the users who were elected were highest in rep.

user259867
9:03 PM
I think I get it. With n positions, you took top n candidates by rep. Then computed the % of them that got elected.

This only counts users who ran in the election, though.
It also scrapes the network profile for their rep history, so it users their rep at the time of the election, not their current rep.
The thing I find surprising about this is that in over half of elections, the result was purely rep-based.
I've been meaning to write a meta post based on this, but I never got around to doing that.

user259867
That's a neat way of digging into past rep. (Not possible through SEDE afaik). I should remember the trick.

Also, another interesting fact is that the user with the top rep got elected in a whopping 90% of elections.

user259867
The most recent Math election was in the 100% category. I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

user259867
I think Shog has a plan somewhere to de-emphasize rep on the election page...

9:07 PM
A thought I've had for a while now but also never have gotten around to posting is that perhaps for users running for mod, only their rep "bracket" (20k+, 15k-20k, 10k-15k, etc.) should be shown (site-wide).
That way, you can tell what privileges they have earned (important for mods), but the exact rep is not as prominent and users are less likely to vote purely rep-based.

Q: Moar meta needed for new vote buttons on beta sites

nicaelThe active vote buttons on meta beta sites are blue exactly like on the main beta sites: Shouldn't they be grey as by tradition (ex. from movies meta):

except "moar"
btw I also feel that main has lost a bit of colour and looks more like meta now... but it's not that big a deal.

I'm wondering - could the confusion between SO and MSO - and the resulting OT questions - be caused by actual colour blindness?

Maybe, but it requires tag blindness too.

@JanDvorak Nope.
