Time to listen to a Japanese metal version of Tonari No Totoro.
Hmm. About a week ago I flagged this guy for suspicious voting behaviour - his questions nearly always end up with two very quick upvotes. Sturgeon's law could explain the behaviour but it's rather consistent. Anyone else have an opinion? Not that it matters really, unless you're a mod, I guess.

@J.Steen Looks odd. Checking activity is easy for a mod. I'll mention it...

Oh. And those same, last five or six questions have all been favourited. I don't get it. The questions aren't that good. They're rather crap, in fact.
Oh. And the double upvotes always come at nearly exact same time, according to his rep-history. But I don't know if it obfuscates.
I "oh" a lot today.

@J.Steen Users can favorite their own questions.

Uhm.

@J.Steen I sometime favor questions I find suspicious, perhaps someone else does the same?

1:14 PM
Holy crap, I can favourite my own question.
For what possible reason?

Now upvote it

Uh. Why?

I believe it will indicate activity on portions of the question where you aren't normally notified (ie. a comment to an answer). Then in your profile tab you can still see that "something" has occurred

Hmm.

1:16 PM
Oh, favourites aren't secret. Cool.
Interesting patterns emerge...

user259867
Sanja Jokic and Andrej Panic favorited the same posts.

user259867
But they are at 1 rep, so couldn't do anything else.

Yes. And are both 1-rep users.
Created the same day.
The third user has 1 upvote on each of his questions. Could also be coincidence, of course.
ANd has upvoted once today. Not that that matters. I just love stats.
Same two users favoriting all his questions...
Three, actually.
So. Yeah. I definitely smell a voting ring.
Hah. All questions asked since those two 1-rep accounts were created have 2 upvotes.
How much rep does it take to be able to upvote?
It's been six years, I forget my own noob-dom.
Ah, 15.

[ SmokeDetector ] All-caps title: JPQL TREAT AS /LEFT OUTER JOIN by Darth_Blade on stackoverflow.com

I'm trying to convince someone that developing an app for X is overkill. I'd like to use cost as an argument as well. Roughly, how much would it cost to get someone to code a simple app for iOS, android and win phones? Say something that provides the program of a conference nicely separated into browsable sections.
I mean, are we talking hundreds or thousands of $?

@terdon Automation?

@Unihedro ?

Show them the xkcd comic!

@Unihedro Ah, that one :)

1:56 PM
Apps without function are useless. It costs less to make a website with responsive layout for something like a conference program.
Then you can use any device.
Except your car. Unless it has a browser.

@J.Steen Google Hangouts crashes on mobile.

No automation involved. It's a one-off thing. They ware organizing a conference and want to provide the program as an app. I'm trying to convince them that a mobile-optimized website is both better, cheaper and simpler.
@J.Steen My point exactly.

@Unihedro Google Hangouts has function. It should be an app.

Hmm.

Let me amend that: It has rich features that require more than what the web is traditionally supportive of.

But how much would it cost, more or less, to get someone to write a simple app like that. I am assuming we're in the range of 1 or 2k bucks.

Like geocities.

user259867
@terdon There are rough app cost estimators online, based on features.

@terdon I'll do it for $2k :p

I'll do it for 20k. Do I win?

Yeah, that's ridiculous. I'm sure you can get an individual developer to do it for far less. I just don't see it falling below 1 or 2k.

I need to ask for a raise.

You do!

... Huh, does app development really go that high? I usually ask for paychecks in the hundreds.

I'd charge a base-price of (with current exchange rate) 120 bucks an hour.
I don't know what prices in other countries are. =D

Does.
Foreign currency exchange is most easily handled by first converting bucks into does.

@Unihedro And you work on mobile apps? What would you charge for an app that essentially provides a searchable PDF? We're talking static text/images arranged in sections. Say ~10 pages or so with some clickable links and a search function. It should work on ios, Android, Windows Phone and probably Blackberry.

Note that I'm not offering a job (not in my power), just looking for a rough estimate.
@tchrist I'm trying to convert bucks into do nots though.

By now you should be aware already that my estimates are severely lower than even mediocre estimates. xD

@Unihedro But are still probably higher than what these guys expect. If you're a professional dev, I'd like to know what those estimates are. Roughly.

@Undo UI is for problems about how you interact with the site (I click button, stuff happens) and design is for how I see stuff without the need to interact with it (box is too big, hides stuff, or color is annoying, etc.)
in this case (red background of deleted answer colides with another element) doesn't strike to me as an usability (interactive if you must) problem
a CSS fix would be enough
