Hi gunr!
Hi all, I just experienced a weird issue with codeblocks on StackOverflow.

user259867
What was it?

was finding a copy paste from the other chat, one moment (planned badly).
Have a look at this answer (Note, I purposely left it as it was!!!): stackoverflow.com/a/2961244/… The problem is that I don't see a codeblock (or highlighting). Once I click Edit the preview instantly shows the codeblock (inclucing highlighting) in the preview (as expected).
gunr2171 confirmed this and edited the question by "switched it from spaces to tabs"

user259867
Shows up normally for me.

gunr2171 then rolled his edit back and still saw the codeblock

They're talking internet of things :O

so, before gunr2171 confirmed the behavior and edited it, it looked like one line.
after editing and rolling back, the code-block worked as expected.

user259867
Well. The bigger issue I see there is that both answers are 100% code blocks with no explanation.

user259867
That might be worth editing. On the other hand, the post got 65 views in 4 years, so who cares.

I think there is something more to this... Aparantly 'legacy' answers are malformed.
I'm experiencing the same issues with codeblocks after a (un)ordered lists.
Something 'changed' just by rolling the edit back.

user259867
Yes, it seems that back in the days when that was posted, the Markdown->HTML conversion had some bugs it doesn't have anymore. HTML is not re-generated automatically, one has to edit a post to re-render it.

And, since gunr2171 is on the chat here, he can confirm we are not chasing a ghost.
Is there anything known about this on meta? For example that 'older' but absolutely valid (under current terms) code-only answers could now possibly be broken?
Likewise, codebloks following lists?

Q: Edit source differs from question view? Or are we each other's friends now?

BartI stumbled upon the following issue. This question starts out with "Dear friends", as can be seen in the image below (and hopefully by following the link). However, when I go to edit the question for some clean-up, I don't see this in the source of the question: My first guess was that a su...

Not the same issue, but another instance of how Markdown and HTML versions of a post can be out of sync with each other.

Thanks for that, i'd say it's related (giving some insight as what is happening in the background, and why the codeblock worked when rolled back).
But now we are defenetly talking about broken answers

user259867
Well, since HTML is not re-baked on its own, any broken answer must have been broken when the user posted it. So to that extent it's on them. Even though the Markdown parser may have been buggy. I don't think there is anything special we should do to find such posts now.

I don't think that specific answer that I linked would not have been 'broken' when it was posted. I'll give it some more thought, have to leave now, thanks for assisting!!
