@AnnaLear what a scary power.... Rewrite History
:D

I didn't realize it was a double post, so when I closed it and saw "migration rejected", I went "okay, let's reopen and clear history so the report/request can stay". That... clearly didn't work out well. :D

So in short, the OP asked first on SO then on MSE, and you tried to migrate the old SO post today?

3:33 PM
@ShadowWizard erase & rewind?

@JanDvorak yup!

No, he asked on SO on Jan 16 2014 and MSO on Jan 17 2014. (MSE didn't exist yet). His SO question got migrated and probably lost in the shuffle/not closed as a dupe. I was going through the MSE flag queue... where a comment on the migrated post was flagged.

@AnnaLear wait .. clearing.. doesn't that have something to do with Scientology?

lizard men. Lizard men everywhere.

So I closed the migrated post, which rejected the migration (which was weird in this case because the post did belong on Meta rather than SO), so I went to detach it from SO by clearing migration history, and then decided to reopen.

3:35 PM
@AnnaLear what a mess..... so what is this one? I can't see it was migrated (and it was posted on Jan 16, not 17)

Small gripe: because I'm used to mathoverflow.net, sometimes I habitually type stackoverflow.net but that site belongs to someone else... At least SE got mathoverflow.com as an alias for MO.

user259867
Hmm, mathoverflow.org is not actually an alias for the site, although it's listed as such... it's something else.

Looks like they just messed up there, probably should say mathoverflow.net

user259867
4:50 PM
mathoverflow.net is the main URL to which two other aliases redirect (mathoverflow.stackexchange.com and mathoverflow.com). The .org domain also belongs to the same people, but is not (any more?) used as an alias for the Q&A site.

Ah, good point. For some reason I was under the impression that it associated mathoverflow.stackexchange.com as the primary url and everything else was an alias. Now that I look at it, it makes sense

user259867
The API query could have returned the main URLs too, but I excluded them to make the results more readable. I'll post a meta bug report about alias-that-isn't.

Q: Could someone explain me how to react to this type of question?

Avinash RajI have solely marked this question as an exact duplicate of this question . And I know that question I linked is also an duplicate. You know, it's easy for us to find our own answer through some search query. After sometime someone commented that "the question you linked is also a duplicate of ...

Apparently not @AvinashRaj. Anything we could help you with?

people are asking me that i am trying to earn reputation from the original question. But that's not my intention.

Okay. So?

so i'm going to ask the mod to delete the accepted answer of mine in the question i linked.
Then come people know the truth.

Meh, just leave it in place. You don't need to make a point.

7:12 PM
am i wrong?

I would generally opt to establish a canonical duplicate and close it against that, but meh

it's a duplicate question.
so i marked it as duplicate.

@AvinashRaj The issue is not so much your answer on the other question. The issue is that you closed as duplicate a question/answer combo that is better than the other one (more votes, more views, and one could argue an answer that is more expressive). People see this and then wonder, why close this one as duplicate when it is better, and then some probably figure you were trying to funnel votes to your answer but that's not the primary issue.

I don't know why people come and fight with me.

@AvinashRaj No you didn't. But maybe it looks that way to someone. I'd say that the answer with the screenshot of ASCII table is the "canonical" one, so others should be directed to the post with that answer.

if anyone have the previelge pls do a reopen and mark it as a dupe of anyone from the above links.
hmm so a single screenshot judge the votes.
i didn't care about how come this question and answer got more upvotes. The mistake i made is marking it as a dupe of the question which has the answer of mine. But you people know that we could fetch the answers which satisfies a particular condition. Like that i fetched the linked question.

The core goal of Stack Exchange is education. Everything we build is geared toward helping people learn from one another — not just the nuts and bolts of their profession or passion, but the universal skills of how to better communicate and learn. As we’ve grown as a company, we’ve benefited from many resources to assist in educating developers out of our office space, including hosting local meetups and partnering with the Flatiron School and Fog Creek for a mentorship program. …

user259867
> we’re excited that our VP of Engineering, David Fullerton, will be sitting in on quarterly meetings

And also i think the votes are stopped because of the duplicate mark.

user259867
@AvinashRaj No, duplicate mark does not do anything directly to prevent votes. It's true, though, that it may decrease the number of votes because users tend to follow the link before reading answers.

You know that, the question i linked which has the answer of mine got a downvote immediately after the dupe is made.
