@ShadowWizard yeah. We have a 3rd party library we use which checks for a license on a license server we run. Has always worked on my machine. Had to reinstall it after HD failure. Still works on the other machines, but not on mine.

@Bart log files are your friend here then, usually it means something is borked in the software and proper software would generate some error log

meh, nevermind me :P

Microsoft is well known for not having any trace of useful error logging, but since it's not Microsoft, not all is lost :)

Especially for the multi-site power user, usually (at least for me) a question is asked and then left alone for while. I rely on the network-wide inbox to tell me when someone has commented or answered, but if ...

Consider that colleges typically maintain drop-in help centers for troubleshooting their students' math homework in lower level classes. From a professor's point of view, there isn't much difference in where the students get help from.
