Hi boys and girls :)
@WilliamPrice Hey, I do :D
Hey anyone in this holy desert!!!
Oooo I am afraid to be alone!
Can anyone tell me why did I get so many profile views in my this profile?
11:15 AM
@nicael Your 64 socks visited it?
@ProgramFOX Wee. Nope...
@nicael CUZ AVATARZ :P
Maybe the Math.se folks think you are Behaviour's sock @nic :P
Or they think your avatar is too cute to do Math
@nicael If that a way to get more profile views ;)
11:25 AM
It's a common misconception that cuteness is anti-math and math is for nerds ;)
(inb4 stereotype rant)
we had our rant of the day a few minutes ago (on MSO and MSE)

They need to implement Community to auto-close these :P
@Unihedro Would Shog let Zephyr run his account for cv's? :D
Q: How can I figure out which side of the car the gas hatch is on (without getting out)?

JaydlesAs a longtime New York City resident, I've never owned a car. I drive fairly regularly, though, thanks to rentals, Zipcars, and the kindness of relatives and other not-quite-strangers. Since much of my driving is done in cars I've never been in before, I frequently found myself pulling into a ...

I'm amazed by how Jeff got reps on many SE sites :O
Half of all the SE users are his sock puppets, didn't you know? :P
oh, okay. took a note
And other half is the sock puppets of Jon Skeet :D Which half you are in?
12:04 PM
@nicael In the third half of Shog9's sock puppets.
@ProgramFOX Wait. Are you sure that in the third half?
@nicael Sure!
@JanDvorak Eh... I vlq'd it.
@ProgramFOX I think that his socks are just half of Jon's and Jeff's socks... And he is the sock of... them both... wait!
12:07 PM
@nicael Well no, he is his own sock.
@AndrewT. HATS ARE AWESOME. Winter Bash will end in 4 days, 11 hours, 45 minutes and 10 seconds. :(

@SmokeDetector How are you?
@Moosemaniseatingpizza last year's sprite was still up so.... chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/89?m=2778435#2778435

@rene So would just loading http://cdn-prom.sstatic.net/WinterBash/js/core.js?v=26 not be broken?
@Moosemaniseatingpizza Could be ... I guess they only remove the code that bootstraps that script.
12:33 PM
@Moosemaniseatingpizza Try on non-hats site now - it doesn't work.
@rene Hmm... I'll find out if it works in ~4 days...
nidz further investigation...
@nicael I assume that non-hat sites are broken because there is no data tied to it server-side. What hat, etc.

A: Is it possible to have site-specific badges?

nicaelI support this proposal very much cuz I got confused at the beginning of my existence about such badges as Altruist, Benefactor, Promoter, Mortarboard on meta sites. They caused me to misunderstand what features those meta have or, e.g., search for "start bounty" under the questions on metas and ...

hey I want a hat for new year!!!!
@InfiniteSnowflakes I wouldn't be to afraid of virtually upsetting someone ;)
Point taken :D
bjb's suspension ends in 8 hours 12 minutes.
He will be virtually upset on the person who told the frozen cat to cool down.
2:56 PM
@InfiniteSnowflakes ahh why ?
did i miss something ?
I assume something with botlings
@rene "to cool down" seems unrelated to botlings.
If it would be bot-related, he would only get a chat ban, not a parent site ban.
16 hours ago, by bjb568
You got me suspended on MSE.
Hmmm, maybe his bot started on a flagging spree?
Doesn't look botling related, it's for the cat to cool down. Shog's boots are enough to fix the botling issues, this time it's different.

No. Never. I just shut the window.

I guess they are just not transparent
Yes. Of course. I first run outside to shut the lights off ;)

8:15 PM
@Unihedro yep
Yes, it ends in two hours.

Good night! happy new year!
8:18 PM
This is an automated message. If you star this message, you may have an exclusive opportunity to win a personalized email from Shog9! Or you get nothing, I don't know, but you're guarranteed to win a warm feeling for giving me Mistletoe hat.
@Unihedro triggered too early
Isn't that a little bit to early?
@Unihedro I hope this is just a test and not a bug that will repeat this message for several hours.
@rene isn't that a bit of an understatement?
8:20 PM
well, for once, I'm afraid of integer overflow
Also, does the message have to be starred? It was for Tam, but this is a different hat.
@Braiam just a little bit
@Behaviour yes
8:32 PM
@Unihedro Why... would I want that?
The message explains the motivation: warm feeling. Like the one you get from seeing your People Helped phony number.
Huh, I wonder why the script posted back then...
message = 'write string here'
setTimeout(function () {
  $.post('rooms/' + window.location.href.match(/\d+/) + '/messages/new', {
    text: message,
    fkey: fkey().fkey
}, 1420070400 - Date.now())
@Unihedro JavaScript timestamp is in milliseconds.
From my console, Date.now() is 1420058427028
Oh, it needs to have two more zeroes.
8:42 PM
I think three more zeroes. Seconds vs milliseconds.
Ok. Made the change, I hope it works.
wow, (supposedly) working template for everyone (long live open-source!)
inb4 some noob forget to change the text and someone posts "write text here"
I got POST http://chat.meta.stackexchange.com/rooms/89/rooms/89/messages/new 404 (Not Found)
Oh, I see: should run from a different location.
8:56 PM
Ugh, Rhino JS.
Oh, it should be /rooms..., not rooms.
@Unihedro Even so, POST http://chat.meta.stackexchange.com/rooms/89/messages/new 404 (Not Found)
> You may only fetch vote counts once every second.
back in my day if we wanted a hat we had to walk 2 miles to the store to go buy one...
Uh, why?
@Frank Because bots.
9:08 PM
@Som :O
What's wrong with bots looking at vote counts?
Fetching the vote splits hits deeper into the system than just loading the page; a request to the database is made. So if you write a bot fetching those many times per second on many posts, you can hurt the performance (DDOS attack).
#lifehack Instead of POST requests, type the message in the message box and tell the script to click the send button at certain time.
write string here
^ $("#sayit-button").click()
9:20 PM
We're all missing body parts here
9:32 PM
What is - he is missing a leg
His friend is missing a leg, too:
’ \
9:46 PM
oh, no one
I misread
Although there's not much time until Mistletoe, if anyone still wants a simple script...
message = 'write string here'; setTimeout(function () { $('#input').val(message); $('#sayit-button').click();})}, 1420070400000 - Date.now());
with extra )} for some reasons
10:04 PM
Very nice, researched answer, thanks! — Shog9 ♦ Aug 25 '11 at 21:55
flags as too chatty
@Behaviour here:
var message = 'write string here';
    function () {
        "use strict";
    1420070400000 - Date.now()
Why is nobody taking ping into account?
@TheGuywithTheElfHat Changing the value of textarea does not involve a ping.
Or you mean setting the date for something earlier?
10:08 PM
@Behaviour reasons
For chat.meta.stackexchange.com to receive it as close to 1420070400000 as possible, the message has to be sent ~100 milliseconds earlier.
actually, I found that bugs are more easily reproducible/findable if I use the strict statement in JS
But then you'd use it on the script level, not within a function?
I have a library that won't work if I use it for the whole file instead of per-function... don't ask me why, I haven't been bored enough to figured it out yet
Does resolution hat give us the usual 12 hour margin?
10:16 PM
Because that would mean we can get it NOW!
Trying to get more helpful flags on GL
@Frank If Shog self-deleted that comment, he'd be closer to the Resolution hat
Possibly at the expense of making work for the mods
Oh wait, does it apply only to year 2014?! Not to 2013, 12, 11...
But I wanna get 500 before we graduate.
10:17 PM
@Frank No need to hurry then.
GL is so slow
but they've been public for quite some time.
@Behaviour Yes--the comments you delete must be from 2014.
@anorton Luckily for me, all my comments are from 2014. :)
I'm going through them now, but no hat yet.
Haha. I might just go and make 10 pointless comments on one of my old questions. Or does the hat consider it 2015 already?
10:26 PM
Some other time-dependent hats gave us +-12 hours margin around the actual date. I don't know if this applies to Resolution.
But I have no difficulty finding obsolete comments of my own that can be safely deleted now.
lol, I got Tam o' Shanter without even trying.
I forgot it existed.
:( I still need to have a message starred to get Tam o' Shanter.
:D Yay!
10:39 PM
So... Eh... I woke up from hunger.
No need for the script to run now.
Also going to make myself ramen noodles (the ones with cheap packets) while I'm a it.
@Unihedro mm? that's so anticlimatic...
mmm... ramen. This could be a new New Years tradition among SE addicts.
Q: Can I prepare instant noodles in the microwave?

PrafullaI want to prepare instant noodles in microwave. The instructions on the pack clearly mention a gas stove to be used, but I don't have access to one. The instant noodles I am talking about are Nestle's maggy 2 minutes (that's how they brand it in India). Have a look at the the following Google im...

> viewed 30449 times
The accepted answer is weird. First, pour boiling water over the noodles, then microwave, and then microwave more.
10:50 PM
It's supposed to be INSTANT.
My favorite "bad answer" that I've found thus far is this one from cooking. "How do I cut lots of tomatoes?" -> "Try a knife."
@anorton :D
"Can I prepare instant noodles in the microwave?"
@hichris123 It's a dupe of this one
Oops, different language
