... it's Christmas Eve @bjb568, and you're looking stuff up about death?
Go have fun.

Did you click?

... yes...

\o/

Seriously, go have fun.

:D
Have a cat!

Hello, people.

Hm, maybe that one can be salvaged with a little editing.

eh, no.
unless you mean the Gaming one?

No, that doesn't need editing:-)
If you look at the forms question, it describes a scenario and asks for tutorials. Remove the request for tutorials, and a proper question remains. Although I don't think what the OP wanted was really desirable.

8:48 PM
[ SmokeDetector ] All-caps title: DIFFICULTY IN OPENING A CD-ROM DRIVE by OSEI TUTU on superuser.com

OP accepted a link-only answer @S.L.Barth, he/she was clearly looking for tutorials

@SmokeDetector suggest crowbar

@InfiniteRecursion i downvoted answer :/

thanks :)

Yes, @InfiniteRecursion, that is a problem here - editing out the request for tutorials makes the accepted answer invalid.

8:51 PM
hmm, it's late night, 2:30 am here.. night

yes, so we closed it.
night @TGMCians :)

Should I build a collaboration feature thing for DevDoodle Create?
@rene BTW, you don't need to do all that complicated stuff on the canvas.

@bjb568 I'm sure ... but hey, I'm learning

Malcolm is writing docs for it.
If you need to do complicaty things, canvas and ctx are provided. Else, there's probably a function. Also all math things are in global scope.

Ok, nice. I didn't check what was already there. I assumed all I got was an editor and a canvas. So I went from there.

9:04 PM
Gave you 50 reputation.

9:28 PM
Is that good?

Reputation is good.

^ wow, the guy that answered that question is rep-whoring themselves to no end.

user259867
9:44 PM
@LynnCrumbling Are you in any way related to this user?

@Behaviour Hah. Impersonator!
@Behaviour I wonder which one of us was using it first.

@JanDvorak-At least,I was helping OP. I am not begging for upvotes here, but,at least,my genuine effosts mustn't be discouraged! My intention was to help OP and I'll keep doing this even in future. — shekhar suman 6 mins ago

hi all

hi @OneWay

9:52 PM
ok, dumb question, Got a Tablet for Christmas Hat can be awarded on dec 24 or on dec 25?

By the way, @LynnCrumbling, that's an A+ use of this year's hats.

@Anna Suspend the rep whore?

@AnnaLear Almost makes you wonder if that's Picard behind the apple...

@bjb568 The who what now?

9:56 PM
I have no idea what you're talking about.

What: suspend! How: button push!

It's several buttons.

user259867
Generally, answering off-topic questions is not a reason for suspension.

user259867
It's a reason for getting downvoted, for sure.

9:57 PM
Yeah, I'm not suspending someone because they posted an answer.
I also find "rep whoring" to be a nebulous concept. "Oh noes, someone made a post and expected to get upvotes". That's... the entire site.

Stupid mobile chat.
moves

Posting things and getting rep is literally how Stack Exchange works. :P

Stupid mobile chat user :P

Delete and edit are so close together.
@AnnaLear Answering LQQs knowingly and pestering OP about accepting the answer isn't.

9:59 PM
@AnnaLear That's... the entire site network.

@bjb568 Flag the post and let the mods dig into it.
On that note, it's vacation time. Have a great $holiday and end of 2014, everyone. :)

^ it will get declined :D

@AnnaLear It's not big enough a deal to get mods involved.

user259867
@bjb568 But big enough to get a dev involved?

Employee time is substantially less valuable :P

10:01 PM
@bjb568 But a big enough deal to bug an employee to blindly suspend someone? ;)

Of course!
You can complain about anything thru chat.

you can suspend bjb if you want ;)

But it has to be very complete when talking thru a flag. Like, you need to give 20 examples of LQ reviews for a mod to actually bother to not just decline the flag.

@bjb568 What bugs me most is that this answerer is really working toward .. eventually.... a 10k'er. If you're going to break standards and answer it after you've cv'd it, then don't make a big deal out of it and provoke the OP into awarding you accepted.

@LynnCrumbling Yeap. Rep system is broken.
DevDoodle will have a better one.

10:02 PM
@bjb568 rm -rf / it.

I should have 10k tools.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf is one of Aesop's Fables, numbered 210 in the Perry Index. From it is derived the English idiom "to cry wolf", meaning to give a false alarm. == The fable == The tale concerns a shepherd boy who repeatedly tricks nearby villagers into thinking a wolf is attacking his flock. When one actually does appear and the boy again calls for help, the villagers believe that it is another false alarm and the sheep (or, in some versions of the story, the boy) are eaten by the wolf. The moral stated at the end of the Greek version is, "this shows how liars are rewarded: even if they tell...

I kicked him some time ago, you should suspend him now :D

And seriously heading out now. Later, y'all.

@InfiniteRecursion Yeah, you kicked me for… what reason? You contradicted yourself, as pointed out by DroidDev.

@Inf you need the kickban script. >:D

How is RO related to mod? you are RO for cv room @bjb568, how can anyone know if you will be a good mod or not? :O

RO is like a limited mod.

@Unihedro Great find

ooh nice
Me like dis musiik
It has functional harmony!
It has counterpoint!
It has pretty much a basso continuo.

Somebody posted a link to a piece of music? I'm not seeing it.
....and AFAIK I haven't blocked anyone.... and as I'm rarely on chat I guess I haven't been blocked myself, either.

Ok, thanks @InfiniteRecursion!

:)
I recognize you from MSO

Yes, we've talked in MSO a number of times.

Yes, google translate said you are not cheerful :D

Haha, yes!
I was looking for an example of a bad translation.... and I got one on the first try!

10:46 PM
It was so funny
Enjoy the music, cya

Thanks!
So, you're leaving? 'till later, then!

yes. Avoid sad smiley (it invokes bjbotling)

:P

I have no intentions of being mod @bjb568, so don't worry :D

What translating thing?
@InfiniteRecursion yay

10:50 PM
@bjb568 That was a while ago on MSO. We discussed machine translation.

Ah

yes, a very old joke

I looked for an example of bad translation and tried "van de vertalingen uit Google Translate word ik niet vrolijk"
("the translations of google translate don't make me happy")

> the translation from Google Translate is depressing

Yes, but at the time, it responded "from the translations of Google translate, I'm not gay"
...or something like that.

10:52 PM
:P
That could cause trouble.

I guess so :-)
I also recall a guy, several years ago, who tried to translate from German. He tried "Du bist eine tolle frau" ("you are a great woman")
.....which the machine then translated as "you are a mad woman"....!

:D

Has anyone kicked @bjb lately? He doesn't have 10k yet, so he's obviously slacking.

That's how bjb would describe bluefeet and me :P
Should I kick?

Nah, bluefeet is more like weird booby.
@InfiniteRecursion no

10:57 PM
Stop tempting me @Shog9, it's hard to resist kicking :(

Aww... why so sad? It's almost Christmas! [from bot]
:)

^^^ means kick
KICKS FOR KRISTMAS!

NO KICK [from bot]
It's so smart!
:)

user259867
Remove [from bot] from @bjb568 bot. It's disappointing to see that everything coherent that comes from the account is bot-generated.

Okeydoke. Done.

10:59 PM
It's soooooo tempting....

christmas?
3547sec left!
Ooh kewl!
kewl
(wow, that was helpful)

@Behaviour it's bjbotling aka borkey

It's not borked anymore!

Still, you called me unbearable ...

Look: Borked?
Not borked!
borkeyborkey?
Not borked!
Definitive answer there.

@bjb568 you're being optimistic for Christmas, I see
It won't be unborked until it replies HAMMER TIME to stop

user259867
@Shog9 Give bjb a break, he wasn't born then.

borkeyborkey is a dumb command

:P
It just looks for borkey?.
Not borked!

Q: .site-desc text in main SE dropdown is too low contrast

bjb568 The grey .site-descriptions is hard to see. It's #aaa on #fff, 2.32:1 contrast. It should be at least 3.5:1 contrast. Could it be darkened to at least #888?

That's incredibly nit-picky
Also, it isn't getting you anywhere closer to 10K on SO

11:23 PM
UGH!
Just make it not look awful then.
Then I wouldn't have to post bugs like that.

More a feature-request than a bug, I think.

No, it's a bug.
It's against the whateveritwas UX standard.
WCAG 2.0 Guideline 1.4.3.
yes, I copy-pasted that from my other complaint
It's a bug.
Nobody in their right minds would hire somebody who would do that intentionally.

user259867
Still, that's only a bug if the designer's intention was to comply with said standard.

You comply with the damn standard or bjbotling will bash your bash in!
I personally think 3.5 is a lot lower than is actually required.
4 is like the minimum for small text deemphasises.
12 is like the minimum for main body text.

If somebody uses a different shell than bash, will they be safe from your bot? :-)

11:29 PM
Why is bjb so grumpy today?

I can't imagine why.
:(
Don't frown. Be happy! It's Christmas!
:P
Thanks, bot

Follow your botling's advice and be happy. Grumpy is not good.

Ok.
:D

ok, Tavern Christmas drinking game: whenever bjb (or his bot) says something that makes you want to kick, drink! ...then kick.

11:32 PM
Stop tempting me :(

Don't frown. Be happy! It's Christmas!

drinks

Time for me to leave. Merry christmas, everybody, and 'till later!

Merry christmas @S.L.Barth, cya

Yay!

drinks
Ooh, nice soup!

user259867
@bjb568 I'm trying to think of a History of Math question to ask (for a hat, of course). Was there anything in calc that made you wonder "who ever thought of this first?"

No
Because I can wikipedia it.

user259867
Yes, that's a common problem with HSM questions.

!eval "I should be running as a userscript now"
I should be running as a userscript now
Good.
So much faster like this!
And I learned how to click things without jQuery.
(the send button)

11:54 PM
@Behaviour I have to admit, that was good.

And it got implemented!

user259867
Writing Chrome extensions made me kick the jQuery habit; they can't interact with jQuery executed on the page, so have to include their own copy, which is stupidly redundant. (Or at least I could not figure out a better way.)

@Behaviour that's lazy talk right there

Is that… you?
Yay, shog is snow'dling'ing!

user259867
Also, since Chrome extensions are going to be executed in Chrome, there are no cross-browser issues.

11:57 PM
Anyway, vanilla js is better than jQuery.
Old browser users should just die.

Well, there used to be a meta post referencing this technique, but I can't find it right now

What technique? Using vanilla JS?

Anyway, the gist of it is... You just write the logic you want to interact with the page's scripts in a single function, and then your userscript / extension / whatever just inserts that function into the page itself.
