A: What is a "hat"?

nicaelHats are invented to bring fun! Hats are loved by everyone! Hats - main subject of meta disputes (maybe debates there will better suit). Q: For what is clc.stackoverflow.com used?

MoosemanWhen loading a question, I noticed calls to clc.stackoverflow.com. Upon loading the subdomain's landing page, I only get this uninformative message: Oh, hi. I didn't see you there. SE's CDN has a thorough explanation on it: This is a fast, cookieless domain intended for static content d...

Q: winterbash2014.stackexchange.com is broken

MoosemanWhen I open winterbash2014.stackexchange.com I get The Q&A site winterbash2014.stackexchange.com doesn't seem to exist…yet. This is the same message as when I visit unicorns.stackexchange.com: The Q&A site unicorns.stackexchange.com doesn't seem to exist…yet. When I open winterbash201...

@JasonC Maybe not, but we're allowed to have fun on meta, if I'm not mistaken. — Mooseman 7 mins ago
@Mooseman How's that workin' out for ya? :P

@Andy Would you please delete your answer so I can delete my question? Thanks

Leave it Andy, make him suffer!

@Mooseman I don't get why you need to delete your question... You do really afraid of downvotes?

@nicael Just loss of rep

Anyways @Mooseman "When does Winterbash 2014 start and end?" is a valid and unanswered question on MSE. You could rephrase.

8:01 PM
@Mooseman Oh, loss of rep. Does rep really matters on meta?.. ;)

@nicael yes on mse but doesn't make sense to delete it

@JasonC Done. Thanks

Look it's making a comeback, you're back to -5. You never know.

@nicael Only meta SE
@JasonC Ohh +2 rep on it now

The only reason I visited the Server Fault election page was to vote against Evan. We really need an "I voted against Evan Carroll" sticker or something.

8:20 PM
Haha, he nominated himself?
> "I'm a respected member of this community..."

It looks like the SF elections, for all the drama, will probably sort themselves out though.
Different topic: The "Highlight to Search" extension for chrome kicks so much ass.
Oh wait maybe it doesn't. All the reviews say its spam. I didn't actually read them.
Which is weird because it's been working great... better uninstall it.
Wait no only a couple recent reviews say that.
Oh I don't know.
Bring me your spam, I'll accept it.
So uh, nice weather today!

We hope you enjoyed this episode of "Jason C talks to himself". Tune in again tomorrow.

I wonder if he realizes that Stack Exchange finally stopped sending swag for every election he participates in...

@JasonC Link or it didn't happen

I kind of like the "didn't happen" option but chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/highlight-to-search/…

8:27 PM
@animuson I would almost admire his persistence ... almost.

From what I can tell the extension itself seems OK but apparently some other malware installed it on a few people's browsers, hence the complaints. It hasn't done anything out of the ordinary for me.

When I have the chat window scrolled to the very bottom (in Chrome), the text moves up and down a tiny bit, about twice a second. Should I visit a doctor?

Hm, it stopped doing it now.

> The voting hordes are the same as come through the main gates. They don't read anything, they just look for the highest rep candidates, give them their vote, gain a shiny new badge and move on.
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I chose to cry with laughter because I realised that Shog9 and the team already know this and as such know that the Noob is likely to get elected.
Oh dear what a mess.
Don't vote for me, vote for Sven, Ward, and HBruijn.

Except for the fact that his high reputation might keep nominees out who are serious about it.

9:06 PM
Why have the SF elections been so relatively dramatic? There's a bunch of crap candidates but it seems like there's some good ones too. Is that unusual?
I've seen other moderator elections with equally bad candidates but it never really spawns much conversation.

@JasonC No one likes the SF question quality, and everyone has their own idea on how to fix it. And there's history with some of the candidates & users. Sooo....

Ah

SE communities are really fascinating.

9:15 PM
@Mooseman IMO no; it was answered quickly, not the tell-tale 2-year-later spam answer. And it seems to answer the question directly and effectively. It might not be the best answer (since it doesn't present other options) but looks OK to me. Apparently others have found it helpful, too.
Sort of like if somebody asked how to burn a CD image to a bootable USB and I posted a link to unetbootin.
The second one makes it look suspicious though. But it seems harmless and like a good recommendation.
I dunno. If it's spam, at least its helpful. I don't think its ill-intended.

Why does every C++ programmer feel the need to point out that std::vector is so much cooler than raw arrays in every question? Like yes, it generally is, but come on. 99% of the time it's totally irrelevant to the problem, and just confuses new programmers.
They'll figure it out eventually, it's not like it matters for their "read a bunch of grades from a file and compute the average" assignment or whatever.
Community should just detect arrays in C++ snippets and automatically post "You should use std::vector" just to take the satisfaction away from the rest of these people.
Or just add comments containing vector and ("should" or "better") to the auto-nuke list.

s,c++,(any language),i s,\b(?:std::)vector\b,(any utility),

Yeah...

And that one person watches the regex tag just to comment with that zalgo link to farm for promotion badges, lol.

Haha
They should add a special case for that question and just change its question ID to a random value every few minutes.

Q: Create SQLite Database and table

TinKerBellI wanted to create database and table using C#. By clicking submit button create ten database with fields.

user259867
Can be salvaged with an edit, I suppose? ^

@Rafflesiaarnoldii Yeah; I voted to delete it and I wish I could retract my vote.

user259867
Vote to reopen in compensation. 7K views suggest isn't that localized.

I can't imagine any edits that would save that question while keeping it on topic and keeping the answer relevant.

Can someone explain to me what is so localized about that question? I have no idea what it's talking about so I'm just confused.

11:47 PM
@animuson Which? Also, -1, gravatar changed and I'm confused.

user259867
@hichris123 The single layer thing is closed as too localized.

Q: Extend or Remove DataExplorer timeout

bluefeetI know that we don't have automatic login for the DataExplorer but what's with the automatic timeout/logout?
