@cVplZ What, you didn't like my new title?
:( I thought it made it a ton clearer.

1:02 AM
@hichris123 yours was a more clear, descriptive title. But it didn't have the buzz, interesting title to enhance more clicks.

@JasonC you should have access to Smokey now

Tricky question: which revision is shown in Reopen queue: second most recent, or the one that was closed? (At least, tricky to find the answer to.)

@Rafflesiaarnoldii Grr! You changed your name again!
@Rafflesiaarnoldii IIRC it diffed to the revision before it was closed.
Let's try science!

user259867
That's what I wanted to try, but don't know how to set up an experiment.

@Rafflesiaarnoldii It diffs to the revision before it was closed. stackoverflow.com/review/reopen/6165105 & stackoverflow.com/posts/26769367/revisions

user259867
Thanks! SO provides a lot of material for scientific experiments.

@Rafflesiaarnoldii Indeed it does. :)

1:36 AM
@Undo Oh, thanks.

user259867
Looks like blatantly OT? Not spam.

@Rafflesiaarnoldii That or "not a direct link to patent holder"

http://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/243057/is-there-anything-se-can-do-about‌-this-spam (in my strong opinion, anyways; given the new information)
Man, navigating the room info pages is infuriating. I feel like every link takes me to the transcript, the message search page, or the room itself, but exactly which of the three is entirely random.
Once I saw a list of posts starred by me, that was kind of cool. But then it was a graph. But then it was some user's profile. I tried to go back but just saw other peoples' bookmarked conversations. Then a CSV started downloading, my computer rebooted, a herd of cats ran through my apartment and my couch burst into flames.

1:43 AM
@ShadowWizard that is interesting! no Mark Booth to be found

user259867
I once looked for a way to get the list of a user's messages... that did not end well.

So I'm trying to build a SEDE query to show answers, their timestamp, but also the timestamp of the question they belong to. I have this, but I keep getting internal resource errors, I guess because of the big join:
SELECT
  a.Id AS [Post Link],
  a.Id AS [AnswerId],
  q.Id AS [QuestionId],
  a.CreationDate AS [AnswerDate],
  q.CreationDate AS [QuestionDate]
FROM
  Posts a INNER JOIN Posts q ON a.ParentId = q.Id
WHERE
  a.PostTypeId = 2 AND
  q.PostTypeId = 1 AND
  q.ClosedDate IS NULL
Is there a different way to run this query that is a little more resource friendly?

@JasonC Does adding a TOP 100 or similar make it happy?

Urgh, we really need some indexes on those tables...but I'm afraid regenerating them every time the data is refreshed would be prohibitively expensive.

@JasonC or add q.CreationDate to WHERE to make it cheaper

1:57 AM
@hichris123 Hmm... Yes, actually. Although it doesn't make me happy; since this is going to be used for part of a bigger query and I want to get everything.

@TimStone Did you ever get the latest code pulled?

@JasonC Your PostTypeIds are actually doing more harm than good.
@hichris123 Everything I've put out has been pulled for a while (well, with the exception of that bug I fixed yesterday, which was pulled yesterday), but not deployed to the public instance. :(

steps back and lets @TimStone do the magic

SUCH SADNESS
Let me see if I can beat it into submission, but having to outsmart the server to get what you want is clearly not very usable. :P

@TimStone Go ping Nick incessantly. That'll annoy him enough... maybe... ;)

1:59 AM
@TimStone Oh I guess they are; I don't really understand how the optimizer works. But same issue without them.
@cVplZ I'm trying to find a list of all answers that were posted within a given amount of time of the question being posted.

@JasonC Oh FFS, it can't even do the join itself.
sighs

@JasonC I thought @cVplZ has this query used on his meta post?

@AndrewT. I have it only selecting the count
@AndrewT. I tried just selecting the [Post Link] , for answers left > 14 days and < 30 days and it ran out of resources

@AndrewT. What post

@JasonC here

2:07 AM
@TimStone I removed the [Post Link] column and its fine now.

Hmmmmmm

@cVplZ -1 still needs a better title. :P

Indeed.
Let me look into that...
It looks like doing it this way might be marginally faster, but there appears to be an issue with the execution plans for some reason ( |: ) so I'm not sure if there's a good reason for that or not.

I just selected top 500 answers for this one, works good data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/242936/test

@TimStone Thanks for checking.
Well, my grand plan to uncover unnoticed spam seed questions + answers seems to have failed. My query works but the results aren't nearly as awesome as I expected.

2:20 AM
@JasonC I've done something like that before. My reasoning was to just select the questions/answers that were both by new users, less than 30 days old accounts, and some other things. Didn't find too much.

@cVplZ Yeah :/ I just looked for answers posted within 24 hours with questioner and answerer both with 1 (or whatever) rep.

@AstroCB wat

that's a different kind of meta

I'll just leave that here.

@InfiniteRecursion I thought you meant the tavern

user259867
^ my thought too.

@JasonC no, your chickenbutt messages add immense value and make the internet better :P

Umm, let it freeze by 14-days inactivity?

3:14 AM
@Rafflesiaarnoldii It doesn't allow text and room link on the same line, room gets oneboxed and text gets lost

still, aaah my eyes!

freezing it is a waste of resources, it adds zero value

user259867
Okay, here's a puzzle. If I search for is:question on SO, the results are ordered by votes. If it's on another site, say Super User, they are ordered in some way incomprehensible. Why?

@JasonC s/h/f

@Rafflesiaarnoldii Votes are arguably incomprehensible as well

3:18 AM
@InfiniteRecursion It'll auto-nuke in... 14 days?

user259867
I was just curious what "relevance" meant for such searches. The most questiony questions, the most answery answers, the closedest closed questions...

@Rafflesiaarnoldii it's sorted by relevance on both the sites for me

Should I post my markdown parser on CR? (… or would they think I am crazy for asking 2 questions about different markdown parsers?)

!!/status

user259867
Yes, it says "relevance", but the actual order shown seems to be by votes on SO.

3:18 AM
@hichris123 will it? then it's fine :)

@InfiniteRecursion Actually, it's 7 days. chat.meta.stackexchange.com/faq#retention
> Rooms not worth retaining which are inactive for 7 days will be deleted.

ok, it's already 6 days old, so it be gone in a day or two

… I'm seeing a lack of interest for my markdown parser …
… I guess the answer is no.

@bjb568 It's amazing. Since I haven't seen the code.
:P

@hichris123 Adding u on the end of false/true whitelists/blacklists everything by that user, otherwise it does nothing with the user, yeah?

3:22 AM
… I think poking vogel to check if it's acceptable on CR is better ...

For the bot

@JasonC right. the u whitelists the user.
Although the bot's kinda dead right now.

@InfiniteRecursion Why does that remind me of "He thinks too much, methinks" (or whatever it is from Caesar)?
> Let me have men about me that are fat,
Sleek-headed men and such as sleep a-nights.
Yond Cassius has a lean and hungry look,
He thinks too much; such men are dangerous.
... so by Caesar's thinking... we all are dangerous.

@hichris123 nope, am not dangerous. Just too many likey questions made me uncomfortable. Happens, if you were in a site/room predominately filled with female members, and faced all these "like me?", "like her?" questions, you might feel uncomfortable too
focus should be on content, not on personal opinions

3:37 AM
Let's play find the UX problems…

@InfiniteRecursion Alright then: do you like answer #1234567? :P
@InfiniteRecursion I get it; just yell that people if they do that again. Say the wrath of thy Shog will fall upon them if they don't comply.

@hichris123 yes, I do. just don't ask if I like any particular user, I like ALL the posts!
@hichris123 sure, will do

I still don't really get what the objection is to "do you like" questions… If you don't want to bother, just flip a coin for FSM's sake…
It isn't like there's really an answer.

@bjb568 Let's play 'why is your browser window at 1/3 size?'

Or that it's really a question…
@hichris123 Shows more horrors. Of course I keep it full screen…

3:40 AM
@bjb568 Well, how about this: if you're a female user, and a ton of guys ask "do you like me"...

@hichris123 Well, on the internet I feel disconnected from that kind of connotation. On the internet, everybody is a connection of posts, of ideas. And I do have a general impression at every point in time of them. That's just there. Not like EWWW MORE PEOPLE ARE SO LIKE TOTALLY NOT FEMENAZI, like, it's just a stupid question that doesn't mean much.
It's so disconnected, especially on something with the name of "meta". I just see the question as meaningless more than anything else.

@bjb568 yes, too many stupid questions are a good reason to step away, I did the same...took a step back...

user259867
@bjb568 Do you like Bobby?

@Rafflesiaarnoldii EVERYBODY LIKE BOOBY! Oh, bobby? Yes, him too.

@bjb568 To each his(her) own. Not my choice to decide what another user doesn't like/likes. And I honestly could care less (as long as their choice isn't to be mean to everyone).

3:44 AM
@bjb568 do you like angie?

@InfiniteRecursion wat is dat?

@InfiniteRecursion Do you like triangles? Or are squares better?

Q: ...........................

davidThe texas coast is 367 miles long. One day, 30 school groups pick up trash along the coast. Each group cleans up a different part of the coastline, each groups part is the same length, a whole number of miles. What is greatest number of whole miles of coast that any one group could clean up?

@gnat to be completely clear, that link really is specifically for reporting the profile itself, not the user to whom the profile belongs. Think "user's avatar is blatant pornography" or "user's about me is racist tirade." Issues with posts and site behaviors should still almost always go through the "classic" flagging system. — Pops ♦ 5 hours ago

user259867
^ From the new "report this profile" interface, this was not clear to me at all.

not clear to a lot of people
sadly
I've already written a macro for handling these reports

user259867
Ditch the link, then?

won't say exactly what it does, but it's titled "bogus report profile"
probably rename it
if it gets too annoying, we may just turn it off
only rarely do folks need to report folks who haven't done anything

4:32 AM
@LynnCrumbling naa get declined frequently - see this, I flagged naa, mod declined, this, this

user259867
Editing in the external fiddle content probably makes more sense than deletion.

I already decided not to flag NAA if it's not a clear case... trying not to be too aggressive in moderation

@Rafflesiaarnoldii declining flags is ok, atleast they can leave a comment for me to inform me what I am doing wrong, educating author is good, educating flagger might be an option too
I finally went to MSO to find out what was I doing wrong, and now that post has become a war-zone
Also, flagging doesn't mean deletion is the only option, they can remedy the problem as they see fit

user259867
Right. I'm staying away from MSO warzones for now. Should suggest 10 more edits, to downvote on meta. But am lazy.

ok, I will find posts that need editing for you, I find typos in almost all the posts I read :/
The MSO post did help me understand their expectations though, so I gained something out of it. No more flagging naa's till I get 10k and earn the privilege to cast del votes

user259867
4:44 AM
You need 20K to vote to delete answers.

ok, then target upgraded to 20K

user259867
And on accepted answers it does not work anyway. Only mods can delete those.

ok, then no can help the present situation, target dropped

user259867
Also, I'd have no problem finding posts that need editing; it's just that I'm kind of tired of editing in general. (I'm #2 in edits on Math for this year.)

Cool :)
@AndrewT. protip: flagging naas is risky, there was a rant here, saying "I will bounty this post when I get time blah blah blah", and the author marked it as the accepted answer, so naa was declined for that rant. Ani deleted it after I linked it here
if there is something that needs deletion, chat is a better option :)

5:10 AM

Calculator spelling (also known as beghilos, the alphabet of available letters) is a technique of spelling words by reading characters upside-down from calculators equipped with certain kinds of seven-segment displays. It is a form of transformation of text. == Description == An unintended characteristic of the seven-segment display is that many numbers, when read upside-down, resemble letters of the Latin alphabet. Each digit can be mapped to one or more letters, creating a limited but functional subset of the alphabet. The graphic below illustrates with the sequence "250714638" appearing inverted...
