@ratchetfreak yes, but still holds that the energy levels are not nearly enough to cause interference. If they were, just flying through the reception area of say a cellphone tower would cause an aircraft to crash. Or taking off over a neighbourhood where someone's got his television turned on. Haven't heard of either in years, or ever for that matter. — jwenting 4 hours ago
^ I imagine the headlines in the news paper

A lot of plagiarism going on in the tag wiki edit suggestions again

"Several Boeings Fell From Sky After Man Watches News"

@random how do you get it to display "another day,another copy paste" to mouseover on the link? :O

> Man neglects to turn off TV while a plane passes by; 285 dead
> Chinese terrorist makes a call, crashes a plane

@Unihedron It's a normal link, you need to add ` ""` at the end of the URL

5:40 PM
So linkurl "description"?
Today I Learned!!

I see @JanDvorak is a professional headline writer. Much more drama in them.

@JanDvorak you should try in Yahoo
they always have good headline writers

The like 3 times a year I end up at yahoo and read their headlines... man, I'm like "I have to read this article" ... end up disappointed every time

5:56 PM
@random Wikipedia copypasta? I wonder why people do this. It’s not like there is some great rep bonus to be earned.

+2 bing

@random and isn't it +2 for excerpt and +2 for body? so +4

@random I don’t consider plodding along at +2 per worth the effort. Why not just make a good answer and hope for multiple +10’s? But of course, I never understand how these people think, since I don’t think that way.

Plagiarism is easier to rep from than anything original

@iStimple Now that’s interesting. Were you going down the recent awardees to find the plagiarism?

5:58 PM
? no

@iStimple Hm. You know, I have no idea on that. I never bothered editing tag wikis until >20k.
@iStimple Then how did you notice it? Just curious.

@tchrist i just knew that badge exists, and knew that I'd probably never try to get it

I see.
There is a way to game the system for that badge, by the way.

@tchrist oh, just do mini-edits instead of one large edit?

It turns out that excerpt edits count just as much as body edits.
So yes, you just do one-liners for the excerpt and never both with a body.
I don’t mean to say that everybody doing that is gaming the system or anything.
No matter how you look at it, tag wikis are a very neglected part of the system.
I really wish there were 10k tools about recent edits.
You can get a list of the recent tags, but not the tag wikis.
I think I remember doing some SEDE queries for some of this.

Q: There should be a way to review tag wiki edits

Daniel BeckRecently, several topics advocate using tag wikis for more than a cursory explanation of the tag: Tag wikis need a size and functionality increase Kill the book lists and put them home in their respective tag wikis On SU, a similar issue is currently being implemented as an alternative to top...

Yeah.
I once used this SEDE query to find tagwikis that needed editing.
If I actually knew any SQL, which I don’t, one would think it wouldn’t be hard to get a list of recently edited tag wikis.

@tchrist so go learn some

@bluefeet Patience, prudence.
It’s also about understanding the dump schema.

Question: why aren't more migration options available for closing questions?

@SterlingArcher DUP! The only one that will be added next is CodeReview, and that probably wont' be for a while

6:14 PM
Actually I was leaning to codereview on that one. Good to hear it's going to be added.. bad to hear not for a while
It's very annoying to not be able to close codereview style questions as belonging on another network

@SterlingArcher you can go to this question and follow the dups... not sure where it will take you meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/261108/…

Led to a gamedev topic
That's the one your duplicate led to
It's gamedev.SE specific
(kinda)
starts broad, ends specifc

6:31 PM
@iStimple hey! thats exactly what I always think

@SterlingArcher Because it is too easy for unworthwhile questions to get randomly migrated otherwise. Users are for the most part poor judges of migration candidates. If you think something should be migrated to somewhere not listed, flag it to that effect.

@tchrist isn't that kind of the opposite of the Stack purpose that the community is the best judge? If several 3k+ users flag for migration, that's not good enough trust?
Or maybe put it into a higher level review queue?
Iunno

@SterlingArcher Experience says otherwise.

@SterlingArcher robo robo

vox populi idiot est

People use scripts to review things?

queues => badges => Robo reviewers

@JanDvorak “Non est enim consilium in volgo, non ratio, non discrimen, non diligentia, semperque sapientes ea quae populus fecisset ferenda, non semper laudanda dixerunt.” ―Gaius Tullius Cicero, Pro Plancio IV
> "In the common people there is no wisdom, no penetration, no power of judgment."

Surely there's an easy way to counter-act robo reviewers?

The rest starting with semperque I leave to your own translation. :)

6:49 PM
Pretty sure there's plenty of penetration among common people <.<

Then reasoning, discrimination, diligence then if you prefer.

Any link-only ones?

well the gravatar has been changed.
what is with the default gravatar flag i'm seeing
I've seen it on a few users in the JS room who are new users
:/
I remember a mod using this image to thwart a problem bunch of users in the past.
wondering the relevance of seeing (1-2) users (a week) show up in the system who are given this

It was balpha's fault.

I'm just wondering if I should be concerned about the people who get defaulted to it
was it an ip range? or was there other criteria to determine they get said gravatar

I'm not sure.

8:04 PM
cc @balpha
because I really do see quite a few users come into the chat with that gravatar
all "new today" when you look at the profiles.

@bjb568 why is that crap?

@Stijn I don't know (I'm on vacation and have been for a while)

who's the next best mod to ask?

I've no idea... maybe Anna...
I hope she doesn't get angry if I redirect difficult questions to her...

And to prevent further damage...I'm out... need sleep...

I would just like a "don't worry about them" or a "tell a mod if you see them" kinda answer

8:29 PM
@bluefeet NARQ.

@rlemon ?

@chmod711telkitty if you've ever seen balpha, I don't think you would assume he lays out on beaches much ;-)

@rlemon What's the problem?

@AnnaLear remember when balpha changed all of those users gravatars to the flag?\

@rlemon oh, it's that guy. okay?
I'm not sure what you're pinging me for. :)

8:36 PM
I'm just curious why new users are getting that gravatar
(hichris said ping you. blame him)

8:46 PM
@rlemon I didn't say ping Anna! :P
rene did.

ohh damn, didn't notice the switch :P

yea, start blaming each other

@bjb568 why a tag for the company?
burn, burn, burn, burn, burn

Ok, I give up. I don’t quite understand why asking folks to CV from here is better than letting stuff run through the Review Queue.

@tchrist Don't have closevotes. Don't have up/downvotes. Can't use flags whenever mods are around.

oh

@bjb568 Then... wait for an hour?

Q: Edit reviewers don't know how to review because nobody told them!

bjb568I recently created a chat room on Stack Overflow chat to whip low-quality edit reviewers into shape. It… worked. Most of them said they would be more careful about minor/invalid/vandalism edits and that they didn't know minor edits were bad; after my complaining, they improved. That leads me to...

@Jamal Of course.
