Truth be told, I can't see anything really great coming out of the question. I was considering closing as opinion-based, but maybe someone else besides Jon Skeet will chime in with a really stellar answer.

user163250
After which we'll probably close anyways, because, you know, opinon-based.

@JanDvorak Isn't that why we use memes?

12:51 AM
@TheWobbuffet no. Originally, "meme" meant a piece of information that was spread throughout the culture. The usual usage of "meme" refers to graphical memes, whose point is to trigger faster associations. And yes, the underlying ideas of some of the memes are pretty crappy.

but I think it is SPAM ^

spam indeed

@JonClements: I am not sure

No programming - it's configuring cooperating front load servers (I think) - no languages, no programming configuration

well, people think that they are on-topic on SO
like git, configuring rules, etc.
I argued against those, but people do not agree.

7:48 AM
no language specified... it's clearly a server config issue

just like in the other cases ;)

Stack Overflow is a question and answer site for professional and enthusiast programmers
Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators.

as I already wrote several times, people think everything related to configuration is on-topic.
there was a meta thread about it lately, eventually.
they think even a simple grep or find usage is on-topic.

because grep is a tool commonly used by programmers :)

no
because it is "programming", you use glob, etc

7:52 AM
not sure we can expand getting different web server technology that happen to conflict on a port into that same category

not that ssl or apache is not commonly used by programmers, anyway.

Ahhh... I'm going to bow out of this discussion, as reading past history and realising certain things now... (bit slow on that one - sorry all)...

No problem, thanks.

@FinalContest that's a canonical question that you're trying to close.

still, that is a too broad question with today's rules, don't you agree?

It is very broad, but one could argue that that's necessarily so, in order to have so many duplicates linked to it.

user163250
There are more canonical questions like that.

@Cupcake not really, I just see the end of any "discussion" with Mr. Contest. And it's not a happy ending.

@Cupcake:
@RobertHarvey: why would you replicate any official documentation? We do not want to do that. Also, that question is too broad with today's rules anyway. @Sumurai8 what about baba? we can discuss his services, ask anyone if he ever called to get more details etc. Is this fun enough for you? :D

baba?

11:23 AM
yup
the most famous spammer in Stack Exchange
and most stubborn, I'll give him that.

@Bart Hmmm, let me consider that....

Just search this very Tavern for "baba", @Sumurai8 and you'll see

I think the community may be loosing its best people, I have lately noticed that the people answering are mostly new to the community, so I tried this query data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/edit/206634 -- it may not be the best, but it seems to be indicative.

oooooooh. Him. Yes, I remember seeing spam from him. Is he still going strong?

@Remou Doesn't that merely indicate that after initially attracting mostly experts, the site has over time attracted more and more "regular" users
If even that.

11:29 AM
@Sumurai8 not strong, but steady. Rare to have a day pass without a baba spam.

@Bart I am no expert, but I do not think so, it seems to me that the quality of answers has disimproved, but I cannot measure that.

@Remou quality of questions is ever decreasing. Naturally, crap questions attract crappy answers.

@Remou it might also have something to do with popularity of the vb.net tag

@rene I tried several tags, that one just seemed a good indicator.

People get naturally bored after a while from questions in a particular tag; they move on to a different tag, or just lurk, close crap where they want to and answer only interesting problems they haven't seen yet.

11:32 AM
And if you take rep as a measure @Remou, shouldn't you be taking the user's rep at the time of the answer? Otherwise those answering in a more recent years would be at a disadvantage here ...

@Bart yes, I do see that, but I was trying to quantify a subjective view of the community.

@Sumurai8 yea , that's right.. I'm not sure why he doesn't have more.

@Sumurai8 something is fishy in there, but I suppose it all boils down to serial voting and/or sock puppets being nullified.
Nothing we should worry about, if the user feels he should have more he will post on Meta or email the team. :)

And I'd recommend the latter option.

I see

1:05 PM
@ShadowWizard Is it possible that he had sock puppet accounts merged into that one account, and theoritically those sock puppet accounts had negative rep, so that negative rep applied to his account?

I'd say it's Aliens

@VotetoClose nope. First, no such thing negative rep. Second, moderators no longer merge socks into the main account, they just nuke the socks.
(think they can't merge anymore)

Q: What happened to this user's rep, badges, and name?

MysticialThis user is only displaying 56 rep. http://stackoverflow.com/users/2354107/user2638924 But surely (s)he has much more than that. The user has also never given out any bounties. Also, badges are missing:

That would be unfortunate @ShadowWizard. It wasn't a pretty sight to see SE on antibiotics and with one of those plastic collars ...

yeah, that was the most nasty bug I've seen reported.

1:24 PM
Hrmmm; apparently it isn't spam if an user posts 4 answers to their library, praising it into heaven, suggesting to use that (or use that instead of something else). I am thoroughly confused as to what moderators consider spam then...

Link?

funny enough all 4 posts are deleted regardless of my flag -_-'

@Sumurai8 source?

@Sumurai8 flagging as spam has serious consequences, thus mod's don't accept spam flags unless they are very obvious. I would just use a custom flag and explain what the user is doing, and have a mod take care of it

Flagging as spam causes a 100 rep penalty I believe, but other than that nothing else?

1:27 PM
Not if it's an isolated incident

Jun 22 at 13:20, by Braiam
spam flags activates ip blocking, keyword search for prevention and more shinnies, offensives doesn't have such features

hrmm okay

@Sumurai8 only if 6 spam flags were cast, or 1 by moderator
5 spam flags then ordinary deletion won't cause any rep penalty

@ShadowWizard You should test it to make sure that's still the case.
-no don't do that

Can a moderator take care of this question stackoverflow.com/questions/24494712/… ?

Enough flags and it's gone

@VotetoClose 10k views... that needs downvotes :/

@Bart my way is rolling back.

I wouldn't have rolled back @ShadowWizard. That question won't go anywhere.

google doesn't like swears , but when you type in "how to have", it automatically suggest "how to have sex" — Vote to Close 1 min ago

@Bart so let's close it properly, still don't think we should leave the offensive post in place.
@VotetoClose that's true, "sex" is not a swear word.

Me neither. I'd have nuked it with flags

@ShadowWizard but a 7 year old could be typing in "how to have a great birthday party" , and they automatically get recommended that crap...

Then perhaps you shouldn't let your 7-year-old use technology on their own that you think might be inappropriate for them.

@VotetoClose he can also look for great many other things. Google should not filter out everything that is related to this.

1:53 PM
@VotetoClose google have safe-search enabled by default

@Bart If you replace your 7-year-old with any moron it would be star-worthy

I have too high an opinion of 7-year-olds to include them into that group @rene ;)

i'm not for censoring, just weird how google seems to censor so much by default, then ends up recommending stuff like that

@Braiam just tried it, Safe Search does not affect the auto complete feature.
it still shows everything, just filter the search results when you actually choose something

@ShadowWizard weird...
sounds logic to filter the search suggestions too

1:58 PM
@Braiam feel free to submit a bug report to google :D
