@Bart ...I kind of want to see a question closed by Snap, Crackle, and Pops ♦ now.

1 hour later…
3:20 AM
Well how about that. Randall Munroe mentioned a Physics Stack Exchange post.
And also wrote it "StackExchange", which made me look for the "edit" button on what-if.xkcd.

3:57 AM
Every now and then, I feel like shouting, "SOFTWARE!"
But I feel like the people around me would be more concerned about my sanity than usual.
Which so far has always been enough to hold it in.

1 hour later…
5:13 AM
I guess I'll go to sleep or whatever.

5:56 AM
Why do my parents insist on stacking things on my desk while I'm gone?
I swear one of these days I'm going to come home and they'll have built a castle out of random items.
Oooooo cookies!

6:22 AM
I imagine that what they were stacking before weren't cookies?
(it's hard to say no to a cookie stack on one's desk)

Q: Human Biology- Human eyes changing color?

Lynda GlovenCan human eyes change color, or is it just different types of light reflecting in their eyes? I am dating someone whose eyes are sometimes very blue, but sometimes green. I also have a friend whose eyes change from brown to green.

That is an entirely new kind of off-topic.
Aaaand burned in under thirty seconds.

7:36 AM
Yeah, I agree with that
would be cool.

1 hour later…
8:58 AM
data explorer down?

Nope, not for me

1 hour later…
10:20 AM
I just love refactoring code. I could really do that all day, with a big smile on my face. It's great. /SARCASM

If it's your own code it is not that bad ...

5 hours later…
3:12 PM
@michaelb958 That question had endless potential for an aggressive edit: "Unicorn Biology - Unicorn Eyes Changing Color? Can unicorn eyes change color, or is it just different types of freehand circles reflecting in their eyes? I am dating a unicorn whose eyes are sometimes very red, but sometimes $('#eyes color:red').color('BROWN')"
2

Brown? Check. jQuery? Check. Unicorns? Check.
When can you interview?

4:04 PM
Less, chat, more SEDE work @Oded! ;)
Also hopefully Nick had a second to pass along my memo :P

@ManishEarth and I having fun with the flags on @StackPhysics #stackexchange : http://t.co/UUvJzJmS0Z

Hehe. Not gotten it yet...

@Manishearth How'd you end up with the extra slash at first? O_o

@TimStone Dunno. I use Chime, and I clicked the notification it gave me. Which seemed to work.

Did you someone turn up the dial on the close vote review audits?
I don't think I'd ever had one before this week. I've had 2 or 3 just today so far.

5:41 PM
Were you using the filters?
Because before those featured 0 audits ever

5:52 PM
Ah. That must be it.
I didn't realize.

Lies. You like cheating the system.

user215114
6:22 PM
Why was my flag on this deemed helpful with no action taken?

@gparyani "helpful" just means "we feel this flag was valid-ish, please flag things similar to this in the future"

user215114
Yes, but what exactly happened in this case?

Ah, for that ping @animuson

A moderator dismissed it as helpful? The rules about NAA are a bit more relaxed on Meta... While your flag is technically correct, I don't think there's any moderator that cares to delete that answer.

user215114
I first flagged as not an answer, which was disputed.

user215114
6:27 PM
I flagged it with a custom reason, and the exact text of the flag was: "This is an attempt at humor and not one to answer the question. My 'not an answer' flag was disputed."

@gparyani Humour is a little more accepted on meta. You know, as long as it isn't fun, we hate fun

Where does one go to sell used video games and video game systems?

user215114
Speaking of which, I flagged another answer as not an answer, which was "declined - flags should not be used to indicate technical inaccuracies, or an altogether wrong answer"

@jadarnel27 eBay

user215114
I flagged it again with a custom reason "This does not attempt to answer the question in this question, which is asking about why the logo on the Data Explorer is different from the standard logo. Rather, it proposes a new logo. My not an answer flag was declined." which was "declined - we're a little more lenient on meta - anything that attempts to relate to the question, even if it doesn't directly answer the question, is fine"

6:32 PM
Yeah, that declined reason pretty much explains it

user215114
@jadarnel27 Amazon (spoiler - affiliate link)

user215114
Why is meta more lenient?

@gparyani I know where to find Amazon - no need for a link =)
@animuson I didn't even know eBay was still around :o

user215114
@jadarnel27 I was just hoping that someone would click on the link and buy items - it's my sister's elementary school's link

Unless you have a newer game or something that's still really popular, you won't get much from Amazon. Glyde can also be a good place to sell a game, again depending on what it is.

user215114
6:38 PM
@jadarnel27 It's changed its logo, so it is still pretty popular, I guess...

Ah, I've never heard of Glyde, @animuson. Thanks for that.

user215114
Why was my very low quality flag on this answer disputed?

My little brother wants to sell his Xbox 360 and games in order to by a laptop. So I'm just trying to figure out where to go to get him the most money.

user215114
Did someone flag it as invalid, or was it reviewed as "looks good" in review?

user215114
I know it wasn't edited, so that case is out...

user215114
6:41 PM
@jadarnel27 buy*

user215114
@jadarnel27 Buy him a Surface Pro :) (no affiliation)

@gparyani Review.

user215114
@animuson Can you give me the review link?

@gpa I believe he's trying to be responsible, and save up and buy it himself.
Besides, he wants the laptop to play Elder Scrolls online.
I'm not sure the Surface Pro would play that game.
(I'm not sure what a Surface Pro is, actually)

Would any laptop play that game? I didn't think laptops were even made for gaming.

user215114

user215114
@animuson Laptops can run as servers, just like mine:)

I have a "gaming laptop." It can play most new games.
Or it could when I bought it. It has 2GB dedicated Video RAM.

user215114
@animuson Besides, my laptop is running a fully licensed version of Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter...

I think it weighs 11 lbs.

I built a gaming PC that I will probably never play any games on. :P

user215114
6:50 PM
@animuson It normally costs over $6000, but as a student, I get it for FREE...

user215114

user215114
@animuson Run it as a web server!

I'm not allowed to run web servers on my current cable policy.

user215114
Now, normally many ISPs prohibit running Web servers.

user215114
These include AT&T, Cox, Comcast, and Verizon, I believe.

user215114
6:53 PM
Though I have Time Warner Cable RoadRunner, so I can do it :)

user215114
Google Fiber did it for a while, but then lifted the ban...

user215114
Switch to TWC and be able to run servers!

I have CenturyLink.

animuson lives in Nebraska. He's lucky to have any ISP. You think he has options?

user215114
EarthLink does not prohibit running servers either...

user215114
6:56 PM
But EarthLink, as far as I know, integrates with existing cable providers to provide Internet services...

user215114
Here where I live, in San Diego, I can either pick TWC's own RoadRunner, or EarthLink. Both run using TWC cable services.

Last time I heard, CenturyLink was upgrading to a Fiber network here in Omaha.
Finished calculating my computer's grand cost... $1630.32

user215114
Can you get EarthLink cable in your area?

user215114
7:14 PM
If you didn't have Windows Server accessible to you, would you put Windows 8.1 Pro on it?

user215114
(Students get it for $70)

user215114
If you did pick Windows 8.1 Pro, your total price is $1830.31.

I have Windows 7.

user215114
Wait a minute, did you include taxes?

Amazon and eBay. No taxes. ;P

user215114
7:17 PM
Upgrade to Windows 8.1, then.

Unless you count that new Nebraska law that says you have to pay taxes on all untaxed online purchases.

user215114
Not in California :)

I didn't actually complete that part last year.Who the hell is going to go through all their email to figure out what they bought all year and what they didn't pay taxes on, just so they can pay money?

user215114
Is yours the Ultimate edition of Windows 7?

I'm not wasting my time if I'm not getting paid for it. -.-

7:19 PM
@animuson "how to make 90% of the population commit tax fraud" :D

user215114
You know, Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise are the same, all that differs are the name and the sales channel (Retail & OEM vs. Volume)

speaking of this.. apparently amazon taxes based on the invoice address, not on the delivery address
at least when i won a graphics cart in the diablo3 arqade contest the tax way much lower than usually even though it was ordered via amazon.de

user215114
Anyway, get Windows 8.1 Pro and put it on your built computer.

@ThiefMaster Well legally they're supposed to. You're technically buying it from whatever address you bill from, and sending it elsewhere.
I don't really want Windows 8.

7:31 PM
I think Windows 8 is...not that great without a touch screen.

oh really? who would have thought that! :D

7:45 PM
@gparyani Me too!

I just bought an additional 200mm fan for my case. :P It's so sad that the non-LED fans are more expensive than the LED fans. I really don't want an annoying always-on LED light on my fans.

@ThiefMaster I was saying that mainly because that dude kept pushing Windows 8.1 on animuson for his desktop (which I think is probably not a touchscreen device).

Wait @jadarnel27, Windows 8.1 doesn't make it a touchscreen? That explains a lot....

It's a common misunderstanding, @Bart =P

user215114
8:35 PM
@Manishearth Well, then sign up! dreamspark.com

@gparyani I already have access through an internal site

user215114
8:49 PM
Windows 8 is bad without a touchscreen. Windows 8.1 is OK without a touchscreen.

user215114
What do you think about putting the Community user on the Wheel of Blame?

user215114
Windows XP, though, is best without a touchscreen.

@gparyani The lecture halls in my institute have a touchscreen XP for controlling the AV system and the shades and whatnot
Naturally, I try to mess with it, but it's hard with the touchscreen

user215114
@Manishearth They should upgrade to Windows 8.1, then.

heh

user215114
8:53 PM
After all, XP will become obsolete in a few months...

user215114
And by that time, Windows 7 will go out of sales...

I probably could make a boodle off Windows 8/8.1 keys. I know how to get the logins of most of the people in the institute via a network trick (which I have reported), all I have to do is script a way to get the key from DreamSpark ^.^
...but I won't do that

user215114
It is illegal to sell Windows product keys by themselves, you know?

True.
It's also illegal to buy them under someone else's name, even if you buy them for free

user215114
Besides, how do you do that? I know that once you access the key for a particular product, you can never access it again.

8:58 PM
@gparyani As in?
It's one-key per login.
But I have a way to sniff tons of logins from the network

user215114
But do you know how to access my key again if I accidentally access it and lose access to it?

@gparyani DreamSpark lets you view the key for 6 months after buying

if it's not displayed anymore you should have saved it :p

Even if not, most of the folks here haven't used it.

user215114
Really? Because for me, the button is disabled if I have clicked on it at least once before...

9:00 PM
@Manishearth it used to be much better in the past... :D

@ThiefMaster Really? Infinite keys? Awesome.

almost...

ah that works
Aren't the keys language-agnostic?

they are
but you could "buy" all language versions

Anyway, now it doesn't even let you get separate keys for 32 and 64 bit

9:02 PM
yeah.. because they are architecture-agnostic, too

You can only buy one of the two
@ThiefMaster I know

but you can still get one for the original version and one per service pack

9:21 PM
Bill the Lizard has really dropped the ball today.
I am disappoint.
You're letting this guy win, Bill.

@jadarnel27 Bill the Lizard is on vacation or something

Excuses, Manish! That's all I'm hearing.
=)
You mods sure do cover each other's backs.

heh

Tell me about it @jadarnel27. When you complain about @Manishearth SO moderation activities, all you get is "but I'm not an SO mod" .... dodging responsibilities ..... typical.

lolwut?
I get enough mod activity complaints from Physics, thankyouverymuch.

9:32 PM
Exactly, @Bart. We get a nonsensical "lolwut", and more excuses.

Physics-boohoo and such. Pfff
Though I have to admit, he's the only moderator I have ever seen threatened with death on these sites. but still

There have been ... others
Or other, at least.
There have been also cases of users mailing stuff to mods and calling them up in the middle of the night and whatnot as well.

Sounds like a completely legitimate response to something that might have happened on any of the sites ..... all of this is serious business after all

ಠ_ಠ

phone calls to their homes?
how did they got the number

9:37 PM
You guys ought to see the mod message responses SO mods get. Get elected someday, you'll have fun.
@ajax333221 Some people do leave their number on their homepages. Mine too, actually, though not so easy to find via SE.

Can't begin to imagine @Manishearth. Heck, I'm a regular user and even I've been mailed. If that happens, the situation for mods must be something ....

sharing those kind of stuff is asking for problems :(

Well, I dropped that tag from 320 to 240 with the use of only my mighty delete button (and the close button shortly before the delete button).
I'm going to eat cookies now. I deserve them.

If that tag is about recommendation engines....might it not be a good idea to call it recommendation-engine? Or is it such crap that it would be pointless?

@animuson you deserve to buy twice as many cookies as you were going to eat, then carefully select only the best 50% and throw the rest

9:41 PM
@Bart I'm pretty sure when it was originally created it was meant as just a general "I want recommendations" tag. Someone added that in later, even though there is a tag.

the result will be better cookies, you can repeat the process multiple times to get better results

throwing cookies @ajax333221. What kind of a beast are you?
Cookies can only be split into two groups. Those I'll eat now, and those I'll eat after the first group.

There are starving kids in Africa...

does this looks space-greedy? I want to double check my logic on resizing images (sometimes landscape, sometimes portrait) on a powerpoint landscape oriented

Ergh. I didn't get the job I wanted. :(

9:58 PM
@Bart there should be 3 groups, you missed the "cookies to eat while eating cookies", like, the ones responsible of balancing the amount of chocolate chips
like, if you eat an almost-non chocolate chips with one with abnormal amounts of chips to cancel things out

Mine are all peanut butter cookies.

is it easy to calculate the amount of peanut on each one of them?

Doubt it.

It's far easier to count the number of chocolate chips on them though

the other day I found this potato chip with abnormal amounts of BBQ powder, it made my day
oh no I deleted something I wanted to edit... mmm too lazzy to type it again

10:22 PM
THE DARKENING COMMENCES

I can't get the new resources to download. :( Is my hard refresh broken or am I just unlucky?

10:35 PM
Apparently meta.stackoverflow.com/content/img/share-sprite-new.png keeps failing when I attempt to load the page. Though loading the URL manually works fine. :/

10:48 PM
EEEEK MY TOP BAR LOOKS ALL DIFFERENT IT NEEDS TO BE REVERTED RIGHT AWAY OR I WILL DELETE ALL MY ACCOUNTS
Seriously though, it looks pretty sexy. Nice.

Hrm, the target area for comment notifications is different from everything else and has a <div> inside of an <a>. This makes me sad-face. :(

@TimStone it's an ironic reference.

11:06 PM
Gahhhhh where's my UTC time!?
> Accounts are temporarily unavailable

Interesting coincidence. I usually don't check my rep on sites like stackapps, but the new topbar helpfully told me that I had received an upvote for this script of mine. The script adds a search feature to the multicollider. Which was implemented today, in the new multicollider. Hmmm.

confetti yay my 3k rep birthday completed
ok maybe not an achievement worth of confetting...

Now get cracking on that Close Votes queue!
