I'm wondering how one becomes a moderator, say, on Super User. Is there a process? A certain number of reputation points? I noticed that when one hits 10k, he has "access to moderator dashboard". What does this mean? Can one choose whether or not to become a moderator?

Difference between just closing the tab/browser and clicking "leave."

closing the tab does nothing

if it's the last chat tab you have open, you obviously stop polling the server when you close it

You only leave the room if you click leave or it detects that you aren't in ANY room after a while

leave lets the server know immediately that you're leaving.. closing the tab takes a while for it to figure that out by lack of connectivity.. i think.

if you haven't polled for 10 minutes, you auto-leave
