I wasn't aware that was a thing.

I wasn't aware satoshidice was a thing to begin with.

I am still not aware that either of those things are things.

@TimYiJiang Done. Also: who upvotes that kind of garbage?

Also, for some reason, Firefox has a navigator.battery object
Must be for Firefox OS I guess

2:24 AM
@TimYiJiang could be for LOIC

Android/Google's text-to-speech recognizes "Stack Overflow", but as "StackOverflow"! Somebody needs to instruct that thing on the Proper Use of the Stack Exchange Name.

@JeremyBanks That's weird. Especially since "Stack Overflow" is a real phrase. Is the website more popular than the error now?
@TimStone Well, yes, because NULL != 0. I mean, it's a small problem, but there is something odd going on with type casting here
At least posts with a score of 0 isn't showing up with a score of NULL

@TimYiJiang I tested it a bit, and it keeps giving me "stackoverflow" (without the capitalization it had the first time) when I speak it at the normal speed, and "stack overflow" if I pause briefly between the words.

So it recognizes stackoverflow as a word distinct from 'stack overflow'. Very interesting.

3:39 AM
I used an insurance salesperson's hype against them and I liked it.

3:51 AM
Br0wn?

4:25 AM
@TimYiJiang =)

4:46 AM
@TimYiJiang Well...right, but that's how the data's stored.
Until a view has been processed, the column value is NULL

@TimStone All I hear are excuses. FIX IT! Also, congratulations for being on topic.

I would like to side-step the conversation and ask about your insurance salesperson story.

Well, I have a 10 year term life insurance policy. He explained that even though I'd be paying $41 for the next 10 years if I replaced it with their 30 year term life, but the total cost of the plan over time would be $6000 lower.

topic?
we have a topic?

But since he was also selling investment products, I took his optimistic 8% per annum return compounded and demonstrated that if I didn't change my insurance today but saved the difference for 10 years and let it accrue interest, I'd be able to pay the entire cost of my current plan over 30 years with the proceeds.

4:55 AM
:D

5:05 AM
@mootinator At the end you should've stood up and yelled, 'FINANCIERED'

Bwahaha.

So none of the Tavern people are from the San Francisco area huh?.. damn..

Saskatoon wishes it were San Fransisco.

I made a post on Reddit and wound up messaging the mods of /r/sanfrancisco... one of the mods is John Resig
His website says he's in NY now, though.. Blah, was going to see if I could convince him to meet me for coffee!

Heh.
I have evidence of the above claim: veria.ca/general/moso-conference

5:11 AM
He's a mod on a subreddit? ffs

Some people have more geek ambition in their baby toe than...
Well anyway.

Laravel has this strange quirk when defining routes. It uses the notation controller@method, instead of the inverse. This doesn't really make a lot of sense when I'm reading through the routing code

9:34 AM
@Oded Congratulations!

@Manishearth Thanks ;)

Nice to see a meta-head ascending to the ranks of the powers that be
Your first job: Clear out this list
:P
Also, have fun with the mod tools!

@Manishearth Being a dev, I must shirk that and point at the program manager ;)

Ahahaha, congrats

@Manishearth Just waiting for some spam "question". Be nice to nuke one from orbit

9:37 AM
@Oded Yeah, it's really fun :)
The moment I got my diamond on Chem I explored all the tools. Didn't get to use most of them, though :(

A: We're rolling out a new "Quick Start" guide to help new users learn the basics

Tim Yi JiangThe logo at the top of the about page always seem to load first, then disappear before fading in again (after the DOM is ready and the JavaScript starts executing). This makes the entire sequence a little weird and inelegant - why are you showing me the logo again if I've already seen it? Since...

(On the other hand, I've used pretty much all on Physics)

@Manishearth It will take a while, seeing as I have a day job

Oh, part time? Interesting..
@Oded haven't you visited the Teacher's lounge yet?
One sec, I may have to mod-refresh your chat profile

@Manishearth casperOne asked that I come visit there on occasion. Will certainly come in in a mo.

9:40 AM
There, refreshed
It's rather quiet right now, though. (And I've got to go in 5 mins)

Thanks to the magic of Session Restore, I had a really old version of the Review Suggested Edits page loaded in a tab, and it was so old that it wouldn't let me reject edits for vandalism (but I could still reject for other reasons...weird) nor would it let me view markdown for edits. A reload fixed those, but now my pending suggested edit counter is no more; was that removed deliberately?

@Neil The pending suggested edit counter only shows up if there are actually any suggested edits pending

@TimYiJiang ah, instead of 0?

@Neil Yes. It is not there if the count is 0

@Oded oh, I think I might know what had happened, this was an edit that I had ignored earlier, so when I came to reload it I had no suggested edits left.
(ignored because the old suggested edit page wouldn't let me mark it as vandalism)

@Neil That's very likely. The display doesn't update automatically.
It needs a whole page refresh for that.

11:30 AM
@Oded OK thanks I will look out for it again next time I review suggested edits.

I got Yearling on meta.phy before I got it on phy. AAAAAA TOO MUCH META

> Traditionally, metaphysics attempts to answer two basic questions in the broadest possible terms: 1. What is there? 2. What is it like?
1. The badge is there.
2. It is silver.
Metaphysics is a traditional branch of philosophy concerned with explaining the fundamental nature of being and the world, although the term is not easily defined. Traditionally, metaphysics attempts to answer two basic questions in the broadest possible terms: # What is there? # What is it like? A person who studies metaphysics is called a metaphysicist  or a metaphysician. The metaphysician attempts to clarify the fundamental notions by which people understand the world, e.g., existence, objects and their properties, space and time, cause and effect, and possibility. A central ...

@balpha lol :P

Where in the world is Popular Demand-o?
He has been strangely absent.

@jadarnel27 By popular demand he has taken some time off

sees what you did there
By the way, congrats on your new job, @Oded =)

@jadarnel27 muchas gracias

2:17 PM
De nada.

2:34 PM
It's -35C. That's it, I'm staying home.

@mootinator Life in the pole, eh?

I'm tempted to go start the van just to see if it will...

I really like the +10C here. :D

@mootinator Doesn't gasoline start to congeal at those temps? Or are you using diesel?

5:03 PM
just put a small nuclear reactor in your car :P

5:52 PM
@jcolebrand Not that I'm aware of. The engine block seizing up and/or the battery not being able to supply adequate cranking amps at low temperatures are the usual problems.
Diesel is generally thicker than gasoline FWIW :P

@mootinator but does it congeal?

@jcolebrand At much lower temperatures.

The EU is a bag of dicks.

10:31 PM
What did they fuck up this time?

@ThiefMaster Does it matter?
Somebody showed up, they breathed, fuck those guys, seriously.

10:52 PM
@casperOne would like to introduce to the world @casperTwo:

D'aww.
Also, heh @ the smudge. "I'm being....BEASTFED"

@ThiefMaster Every time some relatively new electronic thing fails I blame it on EU sponsored tin whiskers by default.

@TimStone yeah, I realized that there was a name in there a little late (but I did ask permission in the first place)

Grats @casperOne

Thanks @mootinator and all.
Let me fix the name issue.
Fixed.
