Hi everyone. I hope that you are all doing well. If any of you are in the NYC area or are going to be in town on October 10th. I hope that you'll be able to join us for the event Philippe shared on Meta yesterday.

Q: Join Stack Overflow’s CEO and me for the first Stack IRL Community Event in NYC on October 10th (space is very limited)

PhilippeOne of the great staples - and most fun parts - of online communities is, ironically, the chance to meet offline. It’s something that I’ve enjoyed greatly throughout my career. Since joining Stack Overflow, I’ve wanted to do them here as well. It’s a valuable opportunity for staff to meet with t...

12:52 PM
@Rosie I assumed it would be full by now... ;)
@ShadowWizard signups are coming in. ;) I know geography is always a barrier for in real life events and it limits it to who is in the area. Just wanted to make sure people caught it was there before it fills up. I do hope some of you can make it. It would be nice to meet some of you IRL.
@Rosie well, most people here in the Tavern are from Europe. Couple from Israel. Only very few from USA, not even sure who. :)
But yeah, no harm in asking, thanks!
@ShadowWizard presumably there's more in the broader mod and core user community :D
this could become very "funny" very fast...
@SPArcheon-onstrike surely you could make it awesome, if you could (would?) join. ;)
12:59 PM
@SPArcheon-onstrike ... I mean, Evan could turn up
ahahahaa
falls
rising up
ah that was good to imagine.
@JourneymanGeek naaah, I would prefer something "funnier".
I wonder if the new management even knows about Evan, though.
He's more from Jeff era.
If anyone wants to, please remember the obligatory red shirt.
I doubt there's anyone left in the company who directly needed to deal with him
1:00 PM
if you know you know
@SPArcheon-onstrike no towel?
@ShadowWizard see above picture
I started taking towel in my bag.
@JourneymanGeek yup. Dunno if it's good or bad. ;)
hmm
Good in terms of "lack of trauma", involuntary staff turnover being a cause of it, I am less happy about
@SPArcheon-onstrike Red shirt guy! Making the Blizzard writers stumble over their own lore since... What, how long ago?
Guy's been around for a long time.
I gave up on Blizzard lore after Shadowlands though. That expansion hurt me deeply.
1:02 PM
@Spevacus 2010...
We need someone to ask SE some lore questions on their privacy policy.
@SPArcheon-onstrike you?
Unless.. unless you're the guy in red shirt?! :-D
@SPArcheon-onstrike how close are you to new york? :D
> 9,117 km
Distance from My Location (Or Yehuda) to New York
@JourneymanGeek drill down is probably faster.
@ShadowWizard In theory, its only a 18+ hour direct flight for me :D
1:10 PM
@JourneymanGeek same for me. I've been to New York once. In... eh.... 2008.
Let me see if there's a picture...
I'm pretty sure that or the SF flight is the longest there is
@JourneymanGeek SF?
San Francisco
Over time, commercial airlines have established a number of scheduled ultra long-haul non-stop flights. These exceptionally long routes reduce the travel time between distant city pairs as well as the number of stops needed for passengers' travels, thereby increasing passenger convenience. For an airline, choosing to operate long flights can also build brand image as well as loyalty among a set of flyers. Therefore, competition among airlines to establish the longest flight occurs. == Definition == === Measurement method === The length of a flight can be defined in different ways. The ...

@JourneymanGeek is there any Codidac delegation there?
Shog? Robert? Catya? Any "old toy we don't need anymore"?
Maybe an ex mod that they slandered on web facing sites? A founder that got his ex network turned into a parody of itself?

there is plenty of way this can go horribly wrong.
sounds entertaining
sadly, I don't see any happening.
Let's send @AndreasmovedtoCodidact
@SPArcheon-onstrike they won't invite possible trouble makers, and the exact location isn't being published, as we can see.
So they're pretty much safe.
@ShadowWizard I was hoping someone would point out that. Didn't want to always be the one :P
2:07 PM
the plus one could be anybody
I have family business to attend to. Besides, I ain’t burning my money for NYC. That place has legalized specific drugs meaning I cannot breath in the city.
@ElementsInSpace ah, good point. But then the trouble maker will have to convince some legit user to join.
@ShadowWizard Yes, especially @Journeyman is very European. :P
Also, Rosie can protect them all, Rabbit power and all, ya know. :D
@SPArcheon-onstrike If you pay, I’ll go. I mean, I won’t go to NYC, but I will accept a trip elsewhere.
Maybe Greenland.
Antarctica would be fun, but the easiest way I could do that would be to join the government. In that case I’d probably have to switch party first.
2:14 PM
@SPArcheon-onstrike I mean. I aim for less drama not more 😁
@SPArcheon-onstrike I’m sure Codidact would like to have a delegation there to market a better place, but I’m quite sure CD isn’t an army.
Dropping a drama movie collection into @Journeyman’s mailbox
