Left a comment just in case this is actually pocking at the "retargetting pixels for everyone" new policy...

@SPArcheon well that's a hot take
Back in my day back bones pop NAA was one of the few types of flags that was actually functional and useful.
Dunno about now.
@M.A.R. long story short. Shog9 once posted this question with this image
it claims that "orange" is not an answer, nor is the "apples this way" one
yet...

Q: Your answer is in another castle Part 2: can we stop the confusion about NAA flags and posts that tackle a different question from the one posted?

SPArcheonDISCLAIMER: This is not yet another post trying to discuss what NAA posts are and / or answers to different questions are NAA. What this post is trying to do is to find a way to stop people for having to discuss that in the first place. This post is meant to be a follow up on Shog9 original "You...

Apparently public consent says that "Orange" is still an answer because "mods can't evaluate correctness" (because you know, if someone asked you how to take a photo and you answer "it was Napoleon" there is SO MUCH to evaluate) so NAA flags should be dismissed and you should vote/delete instead
And Link only are another category that is NAA and you are supposed to either delete or edit to bring the content here
Therefore... nothing is NAA. Everything becomes an answer as soon as you click "post an answer"
It is self referencing. An answer is defined by being posted as such.
Attempting to answer the actual question has never been part of the requirements.
@M.A.R. also....
Gotta bookmark this for later for the next everything-should-have-a-rule guy. Chemists are bureaucrats and I might need to link to it in our chat. — M.A.R. Mar 26, 2018 at 22:38
Technically I was that "everything-should-have-a-rule" something. So, consider this a refresher I would say.

@SPArcheon whoa who's that guy! Must be my evil twin brother!
@SPArcheon BTW I had always used this post to help distinguish between NAA and VLQ on SOBotics
The various nuances of replacing an apple with an orange were lost on me.
> - Question ask how Superman can fly, Answer explains why Batman can't instead
- Question asks why Pluto is sometime not considered a planet, Answer explains why the moon isn't.
- Question ask how to translate a sentence into French, Answer explains how to translate it into Italian
- Question asks why a snippet of code copied from an online sample doesn't produce the same results as in the demo, Answer suggest moving to a different tool / framework instead.
- Question asks who was the first Roman king, Answer explains how to build a steam engine.
I argue all of these should be considered NAA and dealt as such.
I shouldn't have to pay do downvote.
@SPArcheon there's a lot of background you're not divulging I suspect, but argumentation like this is dangerously prone to drawing strawmen.
If one of those cases is contentious, and people decide it's worth reaching a consensus on meta, then I don't see why not.
Then your line of reasoning would be in an answer to that meta post, and people can decide for themselves and see how popular your position is

The site claims to be a place to find professional answers.
If any user can come to your question and post some tangential unrelated info hoping to get some pity upvote and even have the brazen hypocrisy to start their answer with a "I know this is not relevant / does not answer the question but here are my 5 cents about something else that violates the premise" then that user has to be hit with a club and told "that is the door"
If the user is so desperate to post their trash, then they should make up a question and post a self answer there instead of coming to my post.
They ARE damaging you since now the question shows "1 answer" and someone may skip over it because of that.
If I go to some company announcement on meta and post some irrelevant rant you can be sure that some mod WILL delete it. I am just pretending that our questions are given the same dignity.
People have to be stopped from trying to hijack other posts with irrelevant answers.
Made up sample again, but claiming that telling you what are the main trait of Realism art are when the OP asked about Cubism is "an answer" is an insult and a joke and pretending "this is fine, they will pay with their rep to downvote" is adding injury on top.

@SPArcheon OK, sure. I didn't say I disagree. I'm just saying it's possible you will never entirely remove subjectivity from this, and sometimes people may want to decide this on a case-by-case basis
