Just wondering: can mods remove the notice/text of a bounty but still keep the bounty active?
Basically making the bounty "invisible" but still there?
no
I don't think so at least
hm, there is an option for this
so, we have to thank Rand. Ok, thanks.
@JourneymanGeek yep
Rand's fine.
hm
it says "notice removed" and that caught my eye.
I'll drop him a poke
13:56
no need.
this shows the same message, but in this case the bounty seems to be fully gone and the post is not listed in the active bounties page
@ꓢPArcheon It also says that when a bounty is refunded or ended though

A: Bounty removed days ago, but it still shows on the homepage

Rand al'ThorI didn't remove the bounty, only the post notice. Moderator tools allow us to remove the notice (so that the bounty announcement isn't visible on the post itself) without cancelling the bounty altogether.

they replied here.
the feature seems kinda silly in a way. I can see the logic, but it should not remove any notice, just replace it with a default one.
After posting my own answer XD I was writing while you were chatting in here XD

Hey all, if you're going to quote something I said in the Tavern, please make sure you're quoting what I actually said. I'm always happy to clarify things, but I just found a post on Meta that quotes me of saying the opposite of what I did say. Of course this wasn't intentional, but please be careful not to put the wrong words in my mouth.

oh, well, my curiosity was satisfied, that is enough for me. Fell free to point out the change above as a feature request if you like
@balpha I understand your felling, would help to know what post you are referring to though.

Q: Stop internet-archived SE network pages from self-navigating to the live version of the snapshot page

starballWhen I save a snapshot of a network page on web.archive.org, the snapshot navigates to the live page. Like this. @balpha explained in the tavern that this is due to the recent changes that are meant to prevent "unauthorized access" to the network. According to balpha, that change was not meant to...

Oh lovely....
oh, that one.
to be fair, it is indeed weird.
have fun looking.
hm
considering I just spent a good chunk of my afternoon fighting with ngnix... I think I'll pass :D
14:16
@ꓢPArcheon I had a look, I know exactly how this is happening
@JourneymanGeek Want to trade it for fighting software users?
I've had two this week so far...
lol
on meta or IPS?
Work :P
On Monday, I had one that kept insisting the software wasn't working, and it was broken on Production due to a thing I had only patched on Test thus far.
Well, why'd you break it, Tink?
ah see
I am both the end user and ... well I'm not a dev but close enough
14:30
Today, I had someone tell me the software wasn't working, and I had to fix it, and that didn't want to understand that I could not fix it as I don't have the rights to make those changes... this was an IT support staff member, and the thing that was broken was that they put this user on a new laptop with not the proper rights/access to a folder. I cannot give access to a folder, that's above my paygrade!
Its all computers right? :D
I am developing a strong dislike to those helpdesk people, they always find the dumbest things to bother me with.
@Spevacus I need enrichment, like zoo animals, or I start breaking things and misbehaving.
Understandable
@JourneymanGeek In my case, I'm not responsible for the computers. I am responsible for a tiny wart of software, build onto a much more enormous cancer of software, that runs on computers. And somehow, those helpdesk people keep blaming the little wart.
So, I'm doing 2 things right now, migrating from a dedi to self hosting (not much of what I run is very high traffic, and I can always migrate back if it dosen't work out) and switching my blog from wordpress to ghost. Ghost works with my setup, and reverse proxy without SSL. It refuses to work with ssl/cloudflare and I can't find enough to actually ask for help :D
so in a day or two I'll just spin up a sub domain and slowly work this through
@Tinkeringbell lol
@Tinkeringbell Its all computers :D
and users generally don't know the difference
14:39
@balpha See? Your fault for not being enough of a Klingon programmer to defend against some external lib shadowing the top global variable. You should always defend against things you are not in control off
(obviously being sarcastic there, for disclosure I also retracted the vote on the "bug" post)
an external lib on something SE dosen't run?
see the second line...
it is clear that it is not the SE fault this time. Best thing they can do it to add some check to see if the page is loaded in the webarchive and avoid the redirect. But seriously, it would be simpler to try to get in touch with the WebArchive admins
@ꓢPArcheon I'm gonna pass that blame to Jeff Atwood, this code existed before I even joined the company 😄
@ꓢPArcheon My gut feel is that we can just remove that code (we have CSP headers for that purpose these days), but I'll leave that to whoever ends up investigating this.
but that would only help for newly archived content, so yeah, this really needs to be fixed by IA
14:57
@JourneymanGeek Helpdesk should though.
Helpdesk skill levels vary from "has a pulse and mouthbreaths" to "mad computer geek" to"GODLIKE SKILLS"
Ours is like "Oh this user mentions SoftwareWart, so forward this to their team"
I swear, if a user were to tell the helpdesk person they were sure this wasn't a problem with SoftwareWart but it makes it so they can't use SoftwareWart alongside a host of other things, it still gets thrown our team's way.
I even got a host of tickets because there was a company wide thing with DNS quite a while ago... nothing was working, but instead of just putting all DNS tickets under the one major DNS incident... no, lets assign them to team Wart!
lol
I've done helpdesk
that's pretty close to how it works
15:13
Yeah, I know... it's just boring and frustrating though.
Especially as I could've been doing much more fun stuff.

Coming up next, "balpha endorses pineapple on pizza and kicking puppies."
@M.A.R. I was personally more outraged when he single-handedly killed all dinosaurs and then made up that lie about a meteor.
17:00
What about that other time?
Didn't we vote to never talk about that?
> Eating a pizza is like holding a party in your mouth, but what would that party feel like if the pizza had pineapple on it?

Pineapple on pizza is a short game about exploring an island full of dancing people, finding a way to ruin the party, and unexpectedly enjoying it.

@balpha I noticed that but didn't have time to dig, and didn't want to call out the OP before checking. Anyway, you're of course correct, and nice way of editing it. :)
@PM2Ring well in that case small chance to insult, more likely just confuse. ;)
@PM2Ring fall free!
LIBERATE YOURSELF FROM THE SHACKLES OF FLOORS!
its not nice!
:-D
dodging @Journeyman bullet
@Elements when I see your mini avatar in the users list, I think it's Eleeza! ;)
(similar color theme and base drawing)
Well sadly @Eleeza wasn't here for a while, soon I'll have to use my special powers to Summon her. :D
23:52
@ShadowWizard Fair enough, and it's not really that confusing, but it is annoying. OTOH, when someone uses "fell" in an unusual way it tends to invoke its more obscure meanings in my mind, so it brings in connotations of fell beasts. That's probably not desirable.
@PM2Ring I read about it once, it's also for "lose" which becomes "loose".
