@JourneymanGeek What do you recommend someone with a day transit stop in Singapore do?

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog depends on your interests and how much time you have. I'm not super well versed in the good touristy stuff tho
@JourneymanGeek My parents are the ones going - they say they want to go gold shopping mostly. They have two transit stops, one on the onward and one on the return

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog ah, little india I'd guess
@JourneymanGeek Any other place you'd recommend for sightseeing? I think Sentosa is a bit too far out of the way since they're only in Singapore for 6-8 hours in the literal (hopefully not figurative) sense.
Also, how's the weather there? The forecast says it'll rain a lot when they get there - does that seem true for you right now?
They're flying in 8 AM and out 8 PM Thursday.
Its horribly hot
tbh, airport itself is quite interesting. Gardens by the bay is in between and I think (citation needed), there's a direct train

Q: Why is the electronegativity of hydrogen 2.20?

M.A.R.Researching how we can measure electronegativity I realized there must be an arbitrary electronegativity set for a specific element to give the relative amounts of the other ones. Pauling used hydrogen and suggested 2.1 for its electronegativity which later was altered to 2.20. Now, the question ...

This is not a valid use for a bounty. What should be done?
Custom flag to ask the mod to remove the bounty?
@M.A.R. oh this person. Yes
@ShadowWizard let's sigh together
@JourneymanGeek Sigh
@M.A.R. 3... 2... 1...
sigh

sigh

12:33
Yeah okay...
Go be happy. It's escalated to the community team because they're doing this networkwide. Let them handle it.
12:53
@M.A.R. had they NOT added the message, would it still be an abuse?
Probably not. But putting your tantrum on top of other users posts should probably logically fall under 'destruction of useful content' (for self-destruction there's a mod message that also talks about defacing through edits). This is defacing and should probably be handled like that.
(but it's escalated to staff for a reason: let them decide, don't take my word for it)
@ꓢPArcheon yes but we wouldn't know it was
@JourneymanGeek Fair btw, bounty abuse is still abuse and throwing it all out in some kind of rage-quitty mess can probably be labelled disruptive use of tooling ;)
@Tinkeringbell Who said we weren't happy-sighing?
13:06
I was sighing of happiness.
Weird. I've done content sighs, but never happy ones.
I should probably try it some day XD

1 hour later…
now what?
14:40
Sighing.
Meh. I'm finishing work and going grocery shopping. Much more fun XD
Say hi to the groceries from me.

1 hour later…
15:55
@AndreascondemnsIsrael I did :D
Man. People with serious food allergies/intolerances are f-ed. Groceries barely filled the bottom of the bag: 30 euros. And that's not including some stuff I'm planning to get later...
@Tinkeringbell Thanks.
My last trip costed me 1277.90 NOK. That was on Saturday, and will last me approximately one week.
@AndreascondemnsIsrael Whut...
I'm used to spending between 200 and 250 euros a month (and that's already expensive compared to three years ago, when I got the same stuff for around 150)
So 30 euros just for some gluten/lactose free baking stuff alone is... expensive.
Does yours include stuff like soap/detergent etc?
@Tinkeringbell Just 20 rolls of toilet paper.
The price of a can of salt doubled here in California compared to five years ago
Last week was only 880, though.
16:07
@AndreascondemnsIsrael Yeah okay those can bring up the average a bit (still.. that would be 6,50 here, so not that much :P)
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Orange juice is double the price here, and slices of chicken breast to put on sandwiches have tripled in price.
One of our biggest store chains realized they couldn't raise prices beyond a certain point or it would reduce their demand, so they ran a campaign of how they were reducing prices when they were simply partly undoing their earlier changes.
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Increased quite drastically here as well. 5 years ago, I could survive 1 month on 1500-2000 NOK of food and basic household articles.
I used to keep an excel sheet, I gave up keeping up with that just before summer (and hadn't updated it since January anyways, just had the receits lying around still).
I'm trying to be less stingy. Which goes entirely against my Dutch nature and is not going well.
@Tinkeringbell 159 NOK for the 20-rolls pack.
@AndreascondemnsIsrael What is that stuff made of? Satin?
Silk?
That's expensive!
16:10
To be fair, the grocery store I used this time (and most of the time) is quite expensive. Some stuff, like ham, can be as much as 30% more expensive. Then again, sometimes they have good deals. It just happens to be the most conveniently located store for me, and going to another one would massively increase the effort.
But prices are still high everywhere, so I wouldn't really get the cost down much by going elsewhere.
I usually shop at a 'discount' supermarket (Lidl), though they have become less of that lately too. We're close to getting a Nettorama in this town, which is supposedly cheaper, I'm thinking of seeing what that's like. There's 4 supermarkets in this town, all very easily reached by car :P
@AndreascondemnsIsrael Yeah on average it doesn't make much of a difference here either.
Lidl tried and failed here like 15 years ago.
I went to Lidl in Britain once or twice... the food there was... somehow worse than the already bad British food. :)
Then again, there was mostly Tesco around the city. And Sainsbury, and one other cheap chain. The better stores had shut down and moved out of the city.
Or, should I say, cities.
Fruit and vegetables are fine, in fact they stock the greenest banana's in town (meaning you can keep them a bit longer :D). Meat isn't butcher shop quality but no worse than any other supermarket meat here. Loads of other things I don't notice a difference in quality with other supermarket brands either. Oh, and the off-brand chips/crisps are best, as they don't do the 'nutriscore' labels so they at least still have salt in them :D
@Tinkeringbell Paper. Was the second cheapest, I think, only more expensive than the really bad paper that hurts my ass.
@AndreascondemnsIsrael I'm sorry for your high toilet paper prices..
It shouldn't be that expensive to wipe your butt!
16:15
@Tinkeringbell Solution: eat less, shit less.
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Doesn't every chain do that?
We have 3 companies in control of every major food chain in the country, and they all spend an enormous amount of money on advertisements that can't exactly be said to have a truthful undertone. What's even the purpose? The grocery store is there anyway, I'm going there no matter if I watched an ad or not.
@AndreascondemnsIsrael We have these 'price wars' between supermarkets that aren't really price wars but more like 'products on sale wars'. They're trying to get you to come for the A-brand product with the amazing deal that's way cheaper than the supermarket you usually go to... and while you're at it, buy the rest of the overpriced stuff that isn't on sale that week too.
Pretty much everything in the shops here is overpriced, just so it can go on sale someday.
It isn't just the grocery stores sending the prices into the ceiling, though, it's also the food producers (excluding the farmers, they get paid less than a dollar for the animals sometimes).
@Tinkeringbell Priskrig!
Yeah, true. There's been huge profits here too for both.
Kiwi presser prisene!
@AndreascondemnsIsrael I understand that one. The other three, I don't :P
16:20
@Tinkeringbell "Kiwi is squeezing the prices!" Or, well, I'm sure you could say it better.
putting pressure on prizes ;-)
Yeah, I don't tend to fall for that kind of stuff anymore.
Perhaps if I did mind my expenses really well for another few months, and just buy whatever is on sale, I might squeeze the groecery budget down a little more...
Now, if instead they just fired their whole marketing department and actually spent that money reducing the prices...
There's a supermarket here that (rarely) advertises with their 'no advertising' policy ;-)
So, they advertise that they don't have sales, just everyday low prices.
If it's cheaper, then, sure.
To be fair to them, they do consistently tend to come out of tests as cheapest, yes.
But that chain isn't present in this town XD
16:22
But do they sell quality food?
As far as I know, yes. I used to visit one occasionally back when I was in university

I don’t think Woot is in today.
I think Woot's brother, Weep, is covering his shift.
@Tinkeringbell q_q
@ꓢPArcheon well, I don't know their thought process, and I don't care much either way, it's just that hypothetically, if I wanted to pester you, and I had enough rep, I could put up bounties all over your posts, and flood you with useless updates (answers, comments, edits and such) to your post.
There's also ragequit prophylaxis. The next step after throwing all their rep away could logically defacing all their own posts.
@Slate I was gonna make a musical joke here, but I realized there's too much weeping in my library.
A headache saved is a headache gained. Or something
M.A.R., Master at rage?

Mongolian Artillery Rabbit
Magic Alchemist Revolution
@Tinkeringbell what's happened in three years?
Incompetent leaders kept getting replaced with even more incompetent ones.
I mean I'm used to the fact that the economy is stable enough in Elysium Western Europe that people mention and compare grocery prices
And here, I wouldn't even bother
@AndreascondemnsIsrael the obvious solution is to install a faucet and wash your ass, Muslim style
Nothing like near frozen arctic water to soothe the pains of the ass
Cold water has a tendency not to wash off everything.
21:53
Much better than toilet paper
And it's not me saying that, but the Westerners who've tried both
Yeah, you're saying that toilet paper is best.
No u
Punching @M.A.R.
Somebody punched this facade.
22:01
@AndreascondemnsIsrael you insensitive clod! It's clearly built to commemorate hurricane survivors
@M.A.R. Aaah, my mistake. I'm sorry, I thought it was your house.
You wish! This is where I live
Whatever
It's so majestic It's too much for SE chat
@M.A.R. It's beautiful
Look at that mountain view
It's the outdoors life for me
I enjoy the outdoors life but I don't understand why they shrunk everything and made it all greyscale. It's very annoying. Sunsets in monochrome do not captivate me.
@Slate it's to make up for all the hypersaturated images out there. My home is organic. None of that diffusion stuff.
@M.A.R. "Diffusion status: unstable."
Maybe some day I will come to appreciate the selection of these particular grey tones.
@Slate if you don't Dall-e you may catch the diffusion midjourney and stabilize it
That's Gauss' job. I'm just a bird.
22:19
I hope your judgment is not clauded by your species
My judgment is sound, just not very anthropic.
22:35
@M.A.R. bit of covid, war, shrinkflation, greedflation, bit of normal inflation...
