An email was sent by a Stack Overflow staff (on behalf of Philippe) indicating that the event is postponed (the same email address that shared the invitation originally). @AndreasmovedtoCodidact No. I have no desire to go to such a meeting. Or travel to the USA. Well, or travel anywhere in general. Still, others would have signed up. Probably also bought tickets and paid for a place to stay.
@ElementsInSpace Isn't the area still bigger than just the city? You'd still have to get there. And maybe you don't want to travel back the same day, so you book a room.
I hate to get in your planned re-enactment of the menu but...
I'd say the only reason anyone should consider going to one of these is 1) their amusement 2) figuring you can get through to someone who would change things.
On that note - 1) is quite low for me. and 2) is a complete no-go. The premise was that this was held in my backyard. I'd probably pop in. But if it was across town and I'd need, say, an hour to get there - I probably wouldn't find it amusing enough to attend.
