FWIW, I've been thinking about meta.stackexchange.com/q/393425/334566 for a few years, and posted comments about it on MSO a couple of times. I almost posted it as a comment or answer to meta.stackexchange.com/q/393416/334566 but decided it deserved its own question.

I expected it to get a few downvotes, but I'm a little surprised that the response has been so negative. I hoped somebody would be at least amused by this "thinking outside the box" solution to the perennial request for mandatory comments accompanying downvotes.

But I guess MSE thinks my solution is twice as bad as Michael Freidgeim's suggestion to allow canned anonymous comments. ;)

Losing rep doesn't worry me that much, unless it causes me to lose privileges. OTOH, I don't like downvotes on my answers on technical sites. Not because of the rep loss, but because I believe my answers are correct and useful. ;) Occasionally, I do screw up, but I do try to fix errors when they're pointed out.

I don't ask many questions, and they've all been on meta sites. Admittedly, MSE is a bit scary because of the rep issue.

FWIW, I just a got a DV on Physics yesterday, on my 6th highest scoring answer. It was its first DV, after 3.5 years. I assume it's a revenge DV. It's slightly annoying, but the loss of rep doesn't worry me at all. I have plenty of rep on Physics, and I'm pretty ruthless on downvoting bad answers there.

"Rich people problem" - I don't care. Actually old, bad answers that get upvoted bother me more :D
