That's probably the synergy (ugh I hate that word) with proseus' other companies

@user pity, and it's kind of declined already.
We spent some time on this in the dev process, and have it working for left-click, ctrl-left-click (open in new tab), and middle-click (open in a new tab). The challenge with "right click - open in new tab" is that there is no way to only catch it for "open in new tab" but not for the other right click menu options. So it is all-or-none with right click, and we chose not to mark as read then, because there are other legitimate uses of right click that dont include opening a new tab, and there are 2 other new tab options available (ctrl-left and middle). — Yaakov Ellis ♦ Dec 1, 2022 at 7:00
I don't fully understand what Yaakov says, but the final result is that they can't/won't do it.
@JourneymanGeek you didn't scroll up. Old smoke still lingers happily in here. ;)
@ShadowWizardChasingStars The more accurate description (I think?) is "can't do it without messing other things up because of browser behaviour"
also, good morning!
@ShadowWizardChasingStars I scrolled up to the previous one I saw
12 messages moved to Chimney
@JourneymanGeek there are around 50 Smokey reports here from yesterday and few hours ago.
Others have scripts that move them, sounds like it will make your life much more simple. :P
8:43 AM
Its a best effort thing .-.
I AM using a script
and I scrolled up a fair bit
All good, at some point RO will use their script.
(they do it once in a month or so.)
hmm anyhow in this specific case it looks like chat search cache, I indeed don't see the messages actually here, just in search. lol
9:20 AM
@JourneymanGeek @Catija I think both of you will find this quite relevant to that old chat we had...
> “For the new Netflix live-action adaptation, they sent me a video to review and check. It started with a scene in a casino, which made it very tough for me to continue. I stopped there and so only saw that opening scene. It was clearly not Cowboy Bebop”
Netflix is the Ljn of anime live action adaptation.
9:46 AM
@SPArcheon Ljn?
@SPArcheon LJN... lel
the puking rainbow something, as someone called it...
I think the point I was trying to make was that y ou can enjoy something, even if its not the original or 'perfect'
I stand by it
I liked the show. I don't expect anyone else to!
> LJN Toys Ltd. was an American toy company and video game publisher based in New York City. Founded in 1970 by Jack Friedman, the company was acquired by MCA Inc. in 1985, sold to Acclaim Entertainment in 1990, and dissolved in 1994.
Probably example for something bad?
Yeah one of the worse logos I've seen.
10:09 AM
that said they also made the "best" Game Over screen ever.
It is at the same level with the "A Winner Is You" ending of that nes WWF WWE game
@SPArcheon they forgot "Maggots are now eating your corpse" to make it even better.
To be fair my point is the one I am already well known for in other rooms. There are "parodies" and "unofficial works". A parody may go against the original characters personality for fun while an unofficial work should try to stay relevant, but both should always keep one thing in mind.
You are not working with "YOURS" characters. You are using something someone else made and put love and care into. They may even feel emotionally connected to it. Show some respect, and if you can't be bothered with that... make your own world instead of trashing the dreams of someone else.
@ShadowWizardChasingStars Know the AVGN - Angry Video Game Nerd? It is a guy that makes parody reviews of the worst old games. He is VERY over the top - expect his video to be FULL of foul language. But... he still manages to have a point - most of the time.
Not completely @ShadowWizardChasingStars
@ShadowWizardChasingStars well, like I was saying apparently AVGN had your same idea about that screen....
I've warned you - only posted this because it is oddly relevant.
Not that I find the bad words funny by itself. The irony is that his over-the-top version is somehow a satire that makes you realize that the original version probably already was too much for a kid game.
PEGI/ESBR weren't a thing back then..
10:34 AM
@Tinkeringbell @JourneymanGeek @ShadowWizardChasingStars To provide a bit of context as one who was frequently involved in pinging staff, my prior justifications for this were 1. culture shock from having last participated in this site in 2014 when it was common for many staff to get to work-related matters even when not on the clock, 2. past real-life experience which incorrectly led me to distrust people who said "doing X to Y is annoying" if Y themselves didn't say anything of the sort, and 3. later on, instructing staff to let me know when I got annoying and promising to stop if told, and justifying myself for later pings when I wasn't let know (perhaps they missed/forgot the instruction or were simply not saying anything out of politeness).
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog this had absolutely positively nothing to do with you.
@JourneymanGeek I made the mistake of summoning him in an example. But yeah, nothing to do with you otherwise.
@JourneymanGeek My name was mentioned in a prior message in this conversation so I thought I'd respond.
Though, it also had absolutely positively nothing to do with @ShadowWizardChasingStars either
So you're in the clear.
THIS TIME MWAHAHAHAHA
But I still have a few outstanding questions about it.
10:37 AM
Not the time, not the place.
Okay, will skip most of my questions. The last one did have to do with the rules of this room, though.
Not the time, not the place...
So skip all, not just most ;)
stroopwafels
I do see it's not a topic you want to get into now so I won't talk about it now, here.
I appreciate that. Thank you.
Obscure reference of the day (totally made to change topic)
can we... paint Tinkeringbell blue? We already have the dog, the boy and the girl should be easy to find and maybe we could summon Telkitty to play the role of the cat... :P
(context: it was an old anime based on the "The blue bird")
The Blue Bird (French: L'Oiseau bleu) is a 1908 play by Belgian playwright and poet Maurice Maeterlinck. It premiered on 30 September 1908 at Konstantin Stanislavski's Moscow Art Theatre, and was presented on Broadway in 1910. The play has been adapted for several films and a TV series. The French composer Albert Wolff wrote an opera (first performed at the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1919) based on Maeterlinck's original play, and Maeterlinck's inamorata Georgette Leblanc produced a novelization. The story is about a girl called Mytyl and her brother Tyltyl seeking happiness, represented by...
Maeterlinck's Blue Bird: Tyltyl and Mytyl's Adventurous Journey (メーテルリンクの青い鳥 チルチルミチルの冒険旅行, Maeterlinck no Aoi Tori: Tyltyl Mytyl no Bōken Ryokō) is a 1980 Japanese animated television series directed by Hiroshi Sasagawa, with character designs from Leiji Matsumoto. It is based on the 1908 play by Maurice Maeterlinck. The series was 26-episodes long when aired on Japanese television. The series was made in Japan between 1978 and 1979. == Plot == Set in a German-speaking country in the 1970s, the series is about a 12-year-old girl called Mytyl and her 13-year-old brother Tyltyl seeking happiness...

No thanks. And to be honest, I've seen remarks like this before (e.g. chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/89?m=9378912#9378912 and chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/89?m=9332823#9332823) and I'm getting a bit tired of you trying to involve me in random things where I have repeatedly expressed no interest at all in.
@SPArcheon No
They may be your hobbies, not mine. I'm not liking this.
@Tinkeringbell notice taken. I won't try to joke with you anymore. That say... "involve me" seems a little odd since it is a joke and I don't expect you to do anything at all.
Yeah well, seems you got my point anyways. I had to find some words to use...
Fill it in/replace it with whatever words you like, as long as you stop it.
11:40 AM
@Luuklag yay!
@SPArcheon meh, pretty decent language. These days any song or TV show or movie has much worse language if it wants any chance to earn money.
But yeah, think I see what you mean.
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog thanks, that explains some past things, yeah.
And yeah, asking about rules is against the rules. That's part of the beauty of this place. :P
@ShadowWizardChasingStars uhm
What?
@JourneymanGeek not you, this time.
But I can't keep talking about it as it's not allowed.
Thats one of my pet peeves
"I'm going to complain about the unfairness of the rules, and then complain because people don't let me talk about it"
11:49 AM
@JourneymanGeek oh yeah, that's genius.
Thats annoying
Genius people are often annoying.
(Wish I was one, I'm just annoying without being genius ;))
That we can agree on
yay!
:(
So few commands.
annoying isn't it?
11:57 AM
yes!
How can people live with all those annoying things?
:D
Painfully
Constant painkillers?
Life is pain
So is bread.
Only on the head.
BTW, @SPA now that you lost a subject, you can focus on turning me into a pony again. :P
@Dro and @ber aren't relevant because they're gone, but I'm still here. And in Den. ;)
Den even got some audience, daily WAG is something I was missing for long time.
12:18 PM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars look, didn't expect you to be shocked by that, just wanted to avoid others to be. Like I said, oddly I can tolerate AVGN language most of the time because he often manages to point out game designs that are borderline absurd.
I still remember a platform games that had multiple characters with different abilities. One of them... could not jump.
In a platform game. Where you jump constantly.
And if you were killed while using a character... you lost them forever.
so it was perfectly possible to lose other characters until you were left with them... and could not progress any further.
@SPArcheon fun game. ;)
but there are people who rather like the risk and thrill.
@ShadowWizardChasingStars One of the NES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games gave you the ability to use all the four turtles. If you died using one, you could never use them again.
Leonardo was far stronger than the other (weapon had more range and did more damage) but you could complete the game with any character.
The weird part about that game was that you could NOT finish the game with that character, yet you could end up unable to use any other character.
So, you were put in a game over condition but still left able to "play"
@SPArcheon yeah that's the worst possible thing in a game, and should never be allowed to happen in decent and professional game. Sadly, way too many games are far from being either of those.
They release half baked games to not miss the holy schedule, and keeping budget as low as possible to maximize profits.
12:34 PM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars You should watch AVGN review of "Big Rigs"
Wikipedia page does not even give a vague idea of how unfinished that game was.
> There is no time limit to complete a race, and the opponent does not move.[a] The player's truck can pass through the opponent and all objects placed on the route due to a lack of collision detection. Off-roading bears no traction penalty, hills can be ascended and descended without affecting the truck's speed, and traversal is possible in the emptiness outside the game map. Completing a race rewards the player with a trophy bearing the phrase "You're winner !"
lol
Or just play my own "Reversi" game in Java. :D
Best part was that you can accelerate with no limits by going backwards. There are videos showing the truck going at speed (as shown in game at least) well over LIGHT.
@SPArcheon no black holes?
@ShadowWizardChasingStars to some degree.... yes.
> The maximum reverse speed of the truck is 12.3 undecillion miles per hour, or over 18.3 octillion times the speed of light: this is fast enough to cross the entire observable universe in 160 picoseconds (in the same period of time, light would have traveled about 2 inches).
notice how the rendering engine just gives up at some point and you end with a white screen.
@ShadowWizardChasingStars so no "black hole" but you get a "white hole". Something not even Hopkins predicted
12:52 PM
@SPArcheon that's impressive.
@SPArcheon when reaching maximum value, yeah.
Though it could be fun if it just overflowed and started from 0 again, in endless loop.
@ShadowWizardChasingStars now, I think I will point out that to someone in the anime room that is always talking about how strong Goku is :P
> Think about it: in the canon of Big Rigs, the truck (who I will from now on refer to as an anthropomorphous vehicle-themed superhero named Big Rig) has feats rivaling top-tier superheroes:
- phasing through literally any obstacle, no matter the density or size. Nothing physical can harm him.
- extreme kinetic manipulation, retaining speed no matter how quickly he alters direction, which is instantly.
- able to travel so fast that he ascends to godhood and becomes the entire universe, being everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

@Sonic if you’re talking exclusively about “being present on meta on their time off” well, don’t know who all spends time here for fun, and don’t really track that. I can tell you (with the same history, and having gone from user to staff) that the overall tone here on meta is a lot less inviting than it was 10 years ago. — Aaron Bertrand 57 mins ago
hmmm
Well he's not wrong.
1:55 PM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars Well partially its cause people take meta and se too seriously
I try to push for more in community hires where I got an opportunity but That's not the 'only' issue
there's multiple ones, partially community related, partially company policy
On our end - I think sometimes we're a little too... pokey, and the level of comfort with things like that has gone down over time
2:17 PM
@JourneymanGeek people complain when they don't like a change. And naturally people don't like changes. And SE doing lots of small but annoying changes. So yeah, that's the expected flow of events.
If SE expect the users to just nod and approve any change, well, they can close down meta anyway.
But!
There is a way to show when you disapprove of something, in a way that won't disrespect those behind it. And that's where things can and should be greatly improved.
I have to improve as well, just don't really know how.
@ShadowWizardChasingStars that's 'work' though
Hypothetically (and there's a lot of reasons why that's not a thing), If I got hired, I'd want to try to keep my 'social' SE use and work SE use seperate. Even if I hung out here all day, I wouldn't want to be constantly working
@JourneymanGeek true. There are the ordinary users suggesting stuff and reporting bugs who also get cold showers often.
and honestly, we're pedantic as all heck
@JourneymanGeek if you want to be clean, shower often. ;)
I'm not saying SE is perfect but - lemme give you an example, pluralisation bugs
they're a 'low' importance bug that's as much 'admin' as a bigger bug
On the other hand, there's a lot I wish SE would do better - and that would, to me ease some of these issues
2:40 PM
@JourneymanGeek to be fair, I see a much bigger issue than "pedantic", but I think I said that too much times already.
@SPArcheon basically - its not the same environment as 10 years ago, and both sides have their faults. It probably will never be the same, but it can be better
"SE" - both in company and "extended moderation by community" sense has a serious problem.
It is very quick to show baring teeth, pointy pitchforks and flaming torches with a rapidity that almost seems pure blood-lust to people who "dared" to post a dupe or violate your "etiquette" or other such trivial mater, yet has people actually going away because no (serious) action is more often than not taken against homophobia, racism and such
@SPArcheon Well - to a large extent, most communities are 'run' almost entirely by their mods, and frankly our options are limited to an extent
And I'd think on most sites "homophobia, racism and such" wouldn't have any reason to exist on the basis of our subject matter
As for 'overzealous' dupe closures on meta - well, I agree but my options are 'hope people see it my way' or 'pick a fight with everyone who does'
and I've a half dozen other things here that need my attention too
@JourneymanGeek there was a time an user was constantly bullied in a chat room - I think it was because she was female, but it really doesn't matter. The offender was suspended for a week, then returned, then after a while suspended again, returned... in the end the one we lost was the bullied one...
@SPArcheon I've seen that happen and... well I'd say after the return, the offender would be unwelcome
2:51 PM
As a result, it is not infrequent that staff end ups looking very cold for a stressed-out answer they gave to someone that maybe asked a stupid question because they actually didn't know.. yet almost sub-servant to repeated offenders, looking almost scared by them.
but I'm just a mod. A very visible one but - I can only really deal with issues in the communities I am in
@SPArcheon Well - where needed the staff have multiple ways to ask us to look at things here
(custom flags, chat pings etc)
And that generally is a problem I've been vocal about too - that staff need to learn to effectively ask for help if needed + we need to have more staff who can 'handle' more direct community work
@JourneymanGeek to be fair that is also a problem but not what I meant.
There's many many problems :D
all related.
@SPArcheon that one is easy to solve. Proven bully should get permanent network wide suspension. End of story.
SE should not, in any case, tolerate bullies.
They should never post, comment, vote, and of course chat.
Eh, the point is probably that you don't immediately jump to network wide suspension: You first warn, give a shorter suspension...
That kind of bureaucracy isn't limited to SE, that's life.
2:58 PM
@Tinkeringbell nope.
@JourneymanGeek To put it bluntly and no joke on your avatar intended, my point is that "staff" (both employees and CM) often seems to "bark" a lot louder at people doing "minor" good faith errors than people performing actual harassment of other users
For some crimes you get long years in jail right away.
Kids in school aren't suspended and removed from a school when another kid tells a teacher they're a bully.
@SPArcheon well on my communities, its a "stop it" then a "don't come back"
@ShadowWizardChasingStars We're not talking murder or terrorism here, though.
2:59 PM
@Tinkeringbell there are levels of course, yeah.
At the very least some due diligence is needed.
but I have certain tools at my disposal - like working closely with those chatrooms and communities specifically for a long period of time, so I can... "Oh, its you again, BYE" and people don't bat an eyelid.
@Tinkeringbell bullying a user in a way that scares them away can be seen as murder, SE lose that user.
@JourneymanGeek again, not talking about you. And I assure you that there are some communities than are far different than others.
@SPArcheon Well part of that very much comes down to working with mods and empowering them
and there's certainly periods where uh...
that was not the case
3:01 PM
See RPG for a very good example of a very fine moderation - but obviously I won't say which one are the worse ones.
@ShadowWizardChasingStars Which can be amazingly hard to prove. How do I prove that another user has treated me badly, when over half of that treatment happened in venues outside of SE, and that's why I'm no longer talking to them in chat here? That user existed, running around yelling at everyone that I was biased in my moderation actions (when I wasn't even acting) and that I was a bully for ignoring them!
@SPArcheon that's not much to go on really
@Tinkeringbell screenshots. And if the user refuse to give, well, then it can't be proved indeed.
Just as in life, you sometimes have to document stuff first. And if there's enough documented, only then can you act.
An single incident isn't 'bullying', the latter is much more systematic.
Or you're actually there while its happening and can deal with it
3:03 PM
@Tinkeringbell True that. But I also do not expect to have to escalate to the "contact us" link to have an idiot who called a whole category of people "mentally ill" in the chat and remove such message
and... that happened.
@SPArcheon why not?
@Tinkeringbell wasn't the whole Monica crisis over exactly that? That SE changed the policy so that mods must intervene and not ignore things anymore?
If I was a regular user and felt the mod team wasn't able to deal with it, that's the right thing to do
@ShadowWizardChasingStars Nope. And 'intervene' can mean a whole lot of things, including saying 'this is above my paygrade, I'll contact staff for you' or 'contact staff yourself'.
@ShadowWizardChasingStars Well - it ended up somewhere along there but I DO NOT NEED to be told that my community needs protecting
3:05 PM
@Tinkeringbell hmm, OK.
Like 'We don't need to hash out all the examples in chat here, please use the contact us form and send the documentation there, as this is a bigger problem than I can oversee with my current mod tools at the moment'
@JourneymanGeek true, but again the problem there was that "mod team wasn't able to deal with it". I don't know the cause - not caring? not enough tools? not enough people"? but that is precisely what I said before.
@SPArcheon I don't have the details
and yeah, if not, you escalate it.
and there's situations where even I'd do that even though, yanno...
mod in good standing and all that
If you are in a room, flag a post as offensive and no one acts, but at the same time a CM is there arguing over a trivial matter like calling out someone because they spelt something wrong... well see my point above.
> To put it bluntly and no joke on your avatar intended, my point is that "staff" (both employees and CM) often seems to "bark" a lot louder at people doing "minor" good faith errors than people performing actual harassment of other users
@SPArcheon they could have missed it
Well yes
but what you're talking about is 1) something that ideally shouldn't happen 2) could be missed 3) if 1 and 2 are the case, needs to be fixed
3:08 PM
@JourneymanGeek more likely they assumed someone else will deal with it.
Notice that I said "SEEMS". Because obviously that may not be true, but that is what the users will perceive in the end.
Oh
That's another thing
A lot of staff are a little shy about stepping on mod toes
Which is sometimes amusing when its a minor thing but that's a minor company/culture thing I wish would be changed
Or they are fallible, were in a good arguement and missed it
@SPArcheon also there's the chance it was all being done as a joke, even if a very bad one.
That depends on context.
@JourneymanGeek precisely. But the issue arise when they end up looking less shy to reprise someone for a spelling error or a capital letter forgotten on a name than an user posting heavy offenses.
@SPArcheon ah, but that's 'social'
not 'work'
and if there's a mod there - well
3:13 PM
@JourneymanGeek eeehhh, problem is that you guys do not wear an uniform when "on duty", so people assume you are always on duty when they see you here.
Another issue that is.
@SPArcheon well - its a bit different for me
I've a sense of 'ownership' as far as my communities go
and well, I've never had to recaliberate that
On an Ultima server I once served on we resolved the issue by using another account when doing official stuff.
@SPArcheon well - its not happening any time soon, but I see a certain value (and fun) in having a seperate account if I get hired, if its allowed
So, if you were castigated by someone called "Seer Dupre"... you didn't even know who actually was controlling him at the moment.
lol
I mean literally something like aibobot
where its a known, explicitly alternative account
3:17 PM
Mod messages are anonymous like that too already.
Also doesn't get more official than that.
enjoying the silence
3:45 PM
🚽
I came to a realisation that I need to share
We in the UK call it "post"
And in the US it's called "mail"
However
UK has the Royal *Mail*
US has the United States *Postal* Service
3:59 PM
> Originally the service was instigated to literally carry the mail of the Royalty and their court. As such it was the Royal Mail Service. The use of post probably comes from mail boxes were attached to posts on the side of the road. We therefore posted the mail.
4:25 PM
@EleezatheOtherWorldWizard yeah that's super weird. lol
In Hebrew we have one word for that.
@DavidPostill then the Americans mailed the post?
> that the overall tone here on meta is a lot less inviting than it was 10 years ago.
i mean..
it's also quite a different company than it was 10 years ago
Anyway, looks like deferred is the new review. SE staff are in the process of moving all bugs and requests that are in review to have the magic tag "deferred". What does it mean? That it's there in the backlog but might very well never be done.
@ShadowWizardChasingStars it will hopefully be done in 6-8.... Units of time
4:28 PM
@KevinB personally I'm much more bitter as I see things that annoy me over and over, and over again.
the focus is now on tools that big business benefits from to pull a profit, rather than tools that the community can benefit from
@JourneymanGeek nah. No. Niet. Nope.
That's for planned.
@KevinB what do you mean 'now' ?
Deferred has no time limit by design and very much on purpose.
@ShadowWizardChasingStars but also not rejected outright
And does look like there's a big review of review tags?
4:30 PM
@JourneymanGeek little comfort in that. I can count the amount of deferred bugs/requests that were completed on one hand. Probably one finger.
(completed as directly done by devs, not part of bigger project that by pure chance also "fixed" some bugs or fulfilled some requests.)
@ShadowWizardChasingStars oh ye of little faith 😃
@ShadowWizardChasingStars well if it's part of a bigger project it's fine too though
@JourneymanGeek I don't consider it completed though, in the sense completed should be.
Dosen't matter how, but rather the what
@JourneymanGeek intention, my friend. Intention.
@JourneymanGeek and that's new? ;)
@JourneymanGeek yeah, cleaning the board.
Or more accurate, taking the notes and stuffing them all into a big drawer.
To clean the board of bugs would mean fixing them. :D
4:44 PM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars frankly I care more about results than intention
5:15 PM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars I don't think this level of negativity about how SE is handling their currently large backlog of feature requests and bug reports is really that constructive. I recognize that you've been around for a long time, long enough to see many years of SE developers doing their thing, but I'd like to urge you to be a little bit less overtly negative about how they're handling things. When staff see that, I don't imagine they feel particularly interested in interacting here on Meta.
2
If I worked there, I'd likely feel the same way. I'm not asking you to change your mind about them, just the way in which you express how you feel about how they're doing.
See above. We are in a tantrum spiral basically.
Users are resentful because they perceive less effort on features they want, and they see the staff as far away, distant/cold and more akin to act on "trivial" issues than real ones. On the other side, staff see userbase as dangerous, rude, and are a little too quick to stamp them as such (aka the infamous "vocal 0,0000000000001% of the userbase") and want to keep away, which make them look even more distant etc etc etc...
And then comes marketing to paint a pretty picture as if nothing is wrong and teams will save the world
Did no one notice that oddly the more "loved" staff member are also the ones that are more "present" and fell closer to the userbase?
Catjia, Shog, Yaakov...
it's much easier to be upset/snippy at someone who isn't "here"
Absolutely.
5:23 PM
@SPArcheon No? They're all hated equally
I am not trying to say that what happens is "right"... but can you really be surprised if the userbase jumps at your throat when your "first impression" was "you are a vocal 0,0001 we shouldn't care about"?
but i mean... there's certainly exceptions, i think of one past staff member that was very present and seemed quite hated universally, :p
@KevinB If you are thinking about who-I-think, see above line.
"Presence" is not number of post or visibility.
That is just politics.
Presence is being there, talking with people, answering stuff, telling triva...
you know... interacting and trying to have a good time while at it.
Sure. And then you have to announce an unpopular change and all that doesn't matter anymore anyways, so why bother?
In fact all your "popularity" is even likely to backfire
"How could you do this to us after all those good times >:("
5:27 PM
i mean
start by not claiming things do what they don't
@Spevacus More like loads of users getting too comfortable telling the truth and not in an office politics approved way :P
marketing spin might work on business executives
This CEO post for example is probably great for being shared on linkedin. I think it misses the mark here
:/ Chat just died on me
Well it seems to be working again :P
A refresh just now took 20 seconds, other pages load fine. I blame Kevin.
5:34 PM
yeah, mine didn't crash, so it was probably me
collectives for example, teh only value I see it being.. is a source of revenue. Nothing more. The recognized answers are rarely more useful than any other answer, and often are even less. the articles are just reposted from other, better platforms, and we've always had leaderboards
that product needs a lot of marketing spin
Teams is great because it's a paid product that earns SO money that doesn't bleed onto the public page beyond a left-nav nag, which is expected as it... Y'know, earns SO money.
Collectives... Yeah. Since it wholly exists on the public page, it's... Something.
If it was presented to users as what it actually is, rather than some grand feature that brings developers together... i wouldn't hate it.
it'd just be advanced sponsored tags
meanwhile, we get giant articles full of images demonstrating how to use a web ui.
where's teh code
5:56 PM
@Spevacus if bugs would end up being fixed, I'd be thrilled. That doesn't happen yet, and this has never happened before, because they never really used the deferred tag this way.
deferred until coincidentally fixed by a teams feature
So this is something new they're doing, and no, I don't really like it because I can't see how it's better than before. I never meant to be negative about specific SE staff, or about SE staff in general, just about the way SE itself is going now with the huge pile of bugs and requests.
i think it's good that they're going through and cleaning up the backlog right now
i just hope they'll going forward keep up with it
@KevinB well yeah, those bugs that are already fixed get a closure finally which is nice.
My issue is with this new usage of deferred that's all.
They're deferring MSE. :P
> This thing that was broken for years is no longer broken because we replaced the entire page it was in with a new one that doesn't seem to have the same problem, #completed
6:01 PM
@KevinB yep they marked such bugs as completed which is nice to have. But just cosmetic. That said, still better than leaving it in review, so kudos are in order. :D
this coming summer: "We've #completed 600 bug reports!"
6:25 PM
6:36 PM
was SE imgur compression always so poor?
I assume they watermark it, not compress it.
@rene nope, they convert to jpg with visible quality loss apparently. I am still trying to see if this happens always or only in some cases
@SPArcheon I haven't looked into it recently but I did try in 2014 or so to upload bytes as an image and never managed to get the bytes back as is. So, yeah. it does things.
7:35 PM
@rene it create thumbnails, so changing the original, yeah.
7:49 PM
o/
\o
Quite a while, no see!
Staff seem busy slapping status tags on a lot of stuff. I thought yaakoving the homepage eas reserved to @YaakovEllis
Yeah been quite busy lately, and not really wanting to browse SE on my work laptop
Ah, new policy :P the new job is good otherwise?
Yeah definetly, still trying to get the gang of all obscure policies and procedures though
It really helps that nothing is documented and everybody expects you know them all
Heh, oof
Sounds like government :P
8:00 PM
@Tinkeringbell yes indeed xD
So how are you @tink?
Still enjoying your apartment?
"enjoying" yeah :P
Upstairs neighbors are selling theirs.
Hows that?
I'm hoping for quieter ones ;)
@Luuklag Noise, mostly.
Well at least you got something to hope for
Either neighbors, or on days like today, it's the wind (with that curved front door it just makes one of those whooshing sounds all day)
I'm getting new doors in two weeks time though, so that's good as well
8:02 PM
Ahh yeah we have that here as well
Otherwise it's good living on my own, but yeah... I had imagined a bit more quiet. Lots of shouting matches nextdoor and stomping around upstairs...
@Luuklag You live in an older building, iirc?
@Tinkeringbell yeah it was built in the 50's I think, and at some point expanded
Makes more sense for yours to make noises like that then ;)
But all windows have been updated at some point, as well as some insulation here and there, but energy is going to be a najor cost here
Yeah.. that sounds troublesome
8:08 PM
And especially since we are just a house in a row of houses in the middle of an "polder" on an island with wind always blowing hard iff of the sea ;)
Oooof. That sounds lovely if it weren't for current energy prices
In Jan I used 70m3 over the alloted amount for the "prijsplafond"
Oops, and that will be like what, 3-4 euros per m3?
Yikes!
About 3 yeah
Things are a bit more manageable here, I wonder what'll happen once the support plans for "blokelectriciteit" are done.
They said they would finish those up around halfway through February
I've used 261kWh last month. Not sure how much of that was over the limit for the prijsplafond
8:16 PM
My Eneco app sais the limit on electricity was set at 339 kWh
Oh wow. That's a lot XD
9:05 PM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars FYI: The tag has special meaning in their ticketing system:
Retagged this one as [status-deferred] as it will be added to the backlog (and to ensure doing so actually bumps it into our backlog). — JNat ♦ Jan 3 at 17:10
So any concern about the tag being meaningless is unfounded.
I'd also argue it's a good thing that the team is going around and updating old meta posts that were actually completed but weren't marked as such.
@Luuklag Build a wind turbine to get free electricity

2 hours later…
10:59 PM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Can't, not allowed to. Were in the approach to an airstrip.
11:17 PM
@Luuklag Solar power?
11:50 PM
