@user16217248 I prefer to not get "boom" pings please

4 hours later…
7:20 AM
@starball what if "ka" is added before that? ;)
Maybe it's reported by a script/bot?
@Laurel isn't pingable so can't ask about it. :/

7:48 AM
gone already
Super User has Super Fast mods.

@ShadowWizardIsSadAndAngry I'd have flagged R/A. but I don't know if mods on other sites are experienced enough to accept such a flag

8:09 AM
@starball oh, it deserves red flag, didn't doubt that. Just the part where it was reported but had no flags at all.
Someone once said it's because of a script, don't remember exactly.
Maybe script that only manually report with a click, but doesn't auto flag?
@gre_gor what script are you using?

@ShadowWizardIsSadAndAngry Talking 'bout spam and red flags... Why do this @sha?

10:18 AM
@starball What a strange thing to say! Assume all mods are experienced to accept any kind of flag.
At the very least, they will know their local flag customs better than we do.

@SPArcheon I'll allow it.

@Tinkeringbell Papyrus? Is that you?
(sorry, obscure joke :P )

11:23 AM
@SPArcheon (you've never been sorry about obscure references before)

12:12 PM
@ElementsInSpace I am not going to check.

2 hours later…
1:59 PM
@Tinkeringbell what are you allowing? Is that a question asking if we should have some sort of christmassy love-a-thon or is the post itself the love-a-thon? Is it asking if we should do this or is it asking for people to actually post noise?
I can understand allowing the former, allowing a discussion on whether or not we should allow such noise, but surely a question that just says "post your heartwarming stories" is off topic and doesn't belong on MSE, right?

@terdon It is probably going to end up people being grumpy, cause there's a lot that isn't inspirational

@JourneymanGeek I'm grumpy. The last thing I want is some collection of saccharine "feel good" stories. We get enough of that everywhere else this time of year. Why add noise to MSE for no good reason?

8 messages moved to Chimney
@terdon you assume we'll get that
the question is do we wait for the post to collapse under the weight of wet blankets or not :D
also users can closevote too

@JourneymanGeek That's why I'm asking what the post is. I interpreted it as asking whether we should do it, but I now see Tink's answer which suggests she interpreted it as asking for actual feel good things rather than as asking whether we should ask for such things.

which seems listy

2:07 PM
@terdon Grinch.
"Share your winterbash knitting" could also have been argued to be off-topic but every user had fun with those.
We even had a haiku thing at some point, meta.stackexchange.com/q/349555/369802, no winterbash prompt at all.
Honestly, user-led fun isn't per definition 'off-topic' (though it should be 'reasonable', we're not going to devolve into only boat-programming questions).

@Tinkeringbell spam profile, and the question appears to be either actual spam seed, or just nonsense to have link to the profile with the spam.

@ShadowWizardIsSadAndAngry Why VTC it though, besides the flag? (Sorry, should've been more specific)

Well the comment I guess :D
@Tinkeringbell I closed voted it, and answered, and I suspect my heart growing 3 sizes would necessitate a ER visit.

@Tinkeringbell oh, because sometimes people won't red flag it so it might stick around for a while, closing let me cast my own del vote, i.e. extra layer of nuking.
(also doing it with spam answers sometimes when it's not obvious spam. (cast manual delete vote in addition to spam flag.))

@ShadowWizardIsSadAndAngry That's a ... very convoluted process :P And it's confusing users as they only see your comment about 'closing', and don't know that you also raised a flag, and are flagging because 'this user is close-voting spam, mod go tell them that's wrong' :P

2:11 PM
cause meta is very much about someone is wrong on the internet :D

@Tinkeringbell well should be clear it's spam from the custom close reason, but meh, it's pretty rare anyway.

@ShadowWizardIsSadAndAngry ?

@ShadowWizardIsSadAndAngry Yeah. Maybe next time use a few more words explaining the thought process of wanting to be able to use delete votes too, and hopefully users won't end up confused ;)

or throw it here where there's people who'd flag it :D

@ElementsInSpace but they were sorry for other things.

Hi. Sorry I'm late
;)

2:14 PM
@Tinkeringbell this isn't fun. It's saccharine (see meaning 3 or 4 there). It's overtly christian, which has no place on the wider network, and it's cloying, forced, fake feel good crap. We really don't need more of that, every xmas ad is already more than enough.
In other words yeah, OK, grinch is fair.

@Laurel oh, hi! I noticed a manually reported answer, that you reported, and when I saw it, it had no spam flags on it at all. So I find this odd.
@JourneymanGeek meh, guess just flagging will be just fine.

@terdon Well seems you're going to get your grinchy ways. My answer's score is tanking now :(

and let us know that it needs flagging

@JourneymanGeek only after a while and if it gets to -8, like I do with lost souls, yeah.

@Tinkeringbell Dunno. I love Xmas. It's a time for family and gifts and love. But I really, really hate the rest of it. The endlessly repeating songs, the fake cheer, the consumerism. Most importantly, this idea that for some reason we're supposed to be nice to each other for a few days a year and then we can go back to being jerks the rest of the year.
That's the bit that really bugs me: if you can be nice now, why not always? Why do we want to promote acts of kindness during the month of December? Is there a season for that? Shouldn't it be all year round? Why give people a pass with "ah, but if you're just a little nice to people now, then you're fine the rest of the year, don't worry!"

2:20 PM
@ShadowWizardIsSadAndAngry I often report and then flag. It's the only thing that makes sense on eg ELL (tho the one there I reported today I think had a spam flag on it already from someone else)

Wow. yeah, you really are right. I'm in a right proper grinch mood.

@terdon See, I find 'a time for family and gifts and love' saccharine too, talking about forced fake feel good crap :P
I do agree on the consumerism and fake cheer and all the rest though.

@Tinkeringbell Yeah, you're not wrong. But this is probably the last Xmas I will have with my Dad who's very ill, so I'm a bit more on the lovey dovey side on family than I normally am.

@terdon You're almost dragging me along, with your 'family' things... blegh, thinking of those...

@terdon :(
I don't celebrate Xmas
All I'll do is watch die hard :D

2:22 PM
@Laurel nope, it was on 0 score, and author rep 1, so no flags. (e.g. if flag and upvote, author rep would have been 11 or 9.)

@terdon I could try and see if anyone is willing to help making a cover of this about falling quality and AI research.

@JourneymanGeek Heh, as a devout atheist, that is the only bit of my christian culture I keep. I do enjoy some aspects of Xmas, I just completely separate it from any religious meaning.

@terdon en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_and_Truce_of_God < Probably has its origins there btw.
I see it as a bit like any other activism. Pride month, black history month, women's day, men's day, mother's day, father's day, shark week, take a pick.
Sure, you can check your prostate at any time, but at least make sure to do it during Movember!

>_>
"You can check your shark at any time but..."

That kinda attitude is everywhere these days. And while I agree that people should be nice all year round, I'm currently in a 'I'll take what I can get' mood, and if people would actually stop having wars just because it's December, ugh, why not.

2:25 PM
@Tinkeringbell last time that happened was WW1

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, it doesn't even work anymore these days.

@Tinkeringbell huh, very probably, yes

@Tinkeringbell to be fair, we'd be cheerful if we had something to be cheerful about

Well I got the cutest christmas gnome...

@ShadowWizardIsSadAndAngry If it's not the post from today I'm thinking about, then I'd need a link. (Btw, I do all my reporting in the SE Charcoal chatroom if you feel the desperate need to ping me about this stuff in the future lol. Also sometimes I explain what I'm doing there too)

2:29 PM
@Tinkeringbell Ha! That is cute :)

@terdon Only around 80cm high. Which... I kept saying I wouldn't get a christmas tree and ornaments because I have no place to store them, but thinking of it I'm honestly not sure where I'm going to store this one later either XD

2:41 PM
@Tinkeringbell for a moment I thought the black one was the gnome :D

@JourneymanGeek Hahaha no, that's actually a blue IKEA lamp, the lighting is bad.
i.stack.imgur.com/B0fta.png#.png < Lamp in action, you can 'almost' see it's blue XD

lol
now it looks like a glowy alchemical thing

Hahaha
I just have a crappy phone camera okay... my phone is getting old XD
@terdon Oh. In that case, have a few saccharine words about how sorry I am to hear that ;) (I am!). I hope you both get to enjoy the time left to some extent :)

@JourneymanGeek could be used as a low effort aludel, I suppose....

3:15 PM
@Tinkeringbell thanks :)

3:28 PM
@Laurel yeah it's the one today.
@Feeds f

1 hour later…
4:32 PM
@ShadowWizardIsSadAndAngry This one

2 hours later…
6:21 PM
@gre_gor ok, thanks!

6:35 PM
yay! Ordered 6 packs of nespresso capsules. :D
(total of $40 think it's fair.)

7:18 PM
@ShadowWizardIsSadAndAngry That's quite expensive XD any coffee is, but that seems doubly so?

2 hours later…
9:00 PM
@Tinkeringbell it's less than $1 for a capsule, so seems fair.
