For the featured post about user roles can I suggest a specific idea that's in the question what 30k users should get even though somebody linked to that question already?
on a completely unrelated note: has anyone ever floated ideas for ways to have some friendly casual interactions with staff members? I've kind of thought it would be nice to get to know them and have friendly chit chat like we have here. maybe even play some online games together like skribbl.io. But timezone and work scheduling would probably make that difficult.
WAG is a nice asynchronous-able game :D
*I mean like- staff members that don't usually do any meta interactions
@starball well, we have some friendly staff members here already, but I don't expect any new staff members to appear. And even the friendly ones are usually busy, games are out of the question.
@ShadowTheKidWizard That too, but also: you can float all the ideas for ways to have interactions, but you first need to know if the other party is even interested in having such interactions too.
I can consider e.g. @g3rv4 as a friend, and feels fine to ping him sometimes like that, but that's rare, and I even won't ping JNat just for fun. It's complicated.
@Tinkeringbell very true, and problem is that even just asking might place them in awkward situation, so better not go there.
I did see their profile, they are webmastering a few sites but it could still be a user in Paris who is asking about Lyon ... though I personally regard it as highly suspicious
@ShadowTheKidWizard while I get the underlining sentiment, I still wonder how silly our world is when "friend" is almost perceived as a menace yet we are quite fond of expressions like "bro, guys, pal" etc etc.
@tripleee don't think it will be deleted until Roomba takes care of it.
@tripleee oh, yeah, meant watch.
@SPArcheon I never use "bro" or "pal" IRL, and rarely online as well. But in our case here, having staff as friends is problematic even if just because putting them in awkward position when we need something.
@ShadowTheKidWizard and this is even more weird. Would make sense if the word "friend" actually carried a strong value and your "friends" were Mane Seven level. Yet, more often than not "friend" is just little more than "we are in the same class at school" and still we value the word like it was just the word to give value to the relationship instead of the relationship itself.
So, now some use "friend" online to mean that they are in "friendly terms" with someone, others take offense by that with the usual "I don't know you, who you think you are calling me friend?" and...
often neither one values the real friends how they deserve.
@Tinkeringbell read that again, that was kinda the point. We give so much weight to the word and yet so often we give so little value to the actual relationship.
@SPArcheon Eh, no. That really should be the other way around: The word is used like it means nothing, while the actual relationship comes with a whole lot of responsibility.
@ShadowTheKidWizard Or 'middle class'. No reputable Dutch statistics office will give you a hard number on what's middle class (salary wise), but politicians will keep saying they will make everything better for the 'middle class'.
(Or, more correct, they will make everything better for the lower class and middle class, or for the lower class without it being detriment to the middle class)
@ShadowTheKidWizard indeed! I'm always happy to see these pings :)
@starball I like to have random conversations :) and the nice thing about this pings is that I don't feel guilty about missing them, I can come back to them days after. I'm not up for playing games, but def happy to chat
Maybe we should add this as Smokey feature, so that it will post e.g. after two hours, if the post is still not deleted and of course only if it has at least one tp feedback.
@ShadowTheKidWizard we have a feature request for that, but it's not entirely clear what the design should look like
the browser plugin for managing SOCVR requests looks pretty close to what I think I would like, but I'm no Javascript person, so I will probably not waste time trying to adapt it
@YaakovEllis up and running. Just a quick question, I sometimes see "Refresh" link appears, with (0) or (1) but clicking it does nothing. Bug, or something I miss?
(and no new items after actual page refresh.)
@SPArcheon not anymore
@tripleee you happen to have screenshots of the old design? I'm not sure if the captions were distinguished before or not. (Now they're not which looks bad, but not sure how to report it.)
@SPArcheon nah, it was just part of my rants about lack of winter bash command for Smokey. ;)
@tripleee oh, didn't mean userscript or adding buttons, I meant that Smokey itself should "re-post" reports after a while.
yeah, I created a Github issue about that a while back, but it's sort of in limbo because there are different opinions about what exactly it should look like
@Tinkeringbell the accurate number is less relevant, would leave that for the dev who'll do it, and it should re-post in the same place it posted originally.
