@JourneymanGeek I remember few years ago, I was searching something about databases when I came upon an article that claimed the Next Great Thing. A database engine entirely written in JavaScript which only exposed low-level operations so you get guaranteed speed instead of having to do slow high-level commands. It was an April Fools thing. The problem was I didn't see it in April. The article had a date but wasn't very prominent. It took me a while to figure out it was a joke.

I'm pretty sure it does. This isn't really a new joke. Not even the only one. People have made a "windows keyboard" which has three keys only: Ctrl, Alt, Delete
As in, I've seen such things that were physical but not sure if they actually work. They may do. Or it might have been just a base with the three keys put on it.

There are also some "gaming controller-like keyboards". Not sure what the full name is. It's basically a cut down keyboard with WASD and few keys around it + a few macro keys. Here is one. This just has numbers for names but I've seen some that have QWERT + ASDF + ZXCV + space or similar for keys.

@Luuklag I agree. It's alright but could have been better. What I'd love is if next year they just run the same thing again (like copy and pasting) but maybe with other Easter eggs. So, basically if they re-use this in the future to make the joke more meta.

On the old XKCD forums, there was a thing around this time of year called Mod Madness, where the mods would apply "amusing" word filters, so posts appeared to have different words to their actual contents. Usually, there was some kind of theme, so everything looked like it was written in lolcat, or Jamaican patois, or pseudo-Anglo-Saxon. Mod Madness lasted for a couple of weeks. It made it difficult to do anything sensible in the coding forums. ;)

@Catija Speaking of swag, one of our members on Physics.SE just passed 200k. physics.meta.stackexchange.com/q/13490/123208 It looks like she hit 100k in early 2017, I don't know if she got swag for that. She's a retired particle physicist from Greece. She also turns 80 this year. I think it'd be nice if she got some kind of recognition from the company...

@Tinkeringbell True. You could use alternate characters, like small caps, etc, if you really needed to make something clear. But most people just went with the flow. Also, some of the "popular" word filters were kept after Mod Madness, eg "tweak" -> "twerk"
