@SonictheCuriouserHedgehog In theory - you could ask on meta :D

@JourneymanGeek Question is, would SE be willing to disclose the exact number?
Also, someone else asked the same question about last year's program and it was heavily downvoted.

Well - he's asking how much...
and "no we won't share that" is an answer
there's a breakdown of how much
Up to you really

@SonictheCuriouserHedgehog I'm willing to disclose I didn't choose... never have (as far as I can remember), as I've never found a charity on that list that I can support with a clean conscience.

10:36 AM
Noooooo some manager found the Icebreaker bot in Microsoft Teams.

So? You don't like me using it?

10:53 AM
Honestly, if I wanted anything like it I could've just gone on something like chatroulette?

I'm not overly familiar with chatroulette ... checking ... I wish I didn't ...

11:11 AM
@rene Yeah. Should've warned you :P

Welcome to ISSUE #59 of the Overflow! This newsletter is by developers, for developers, written and curated by the Stack Overflow team and Cassidy Williams at Netlify. This week, a detailed look at a hacking incident we saw in May 2019, the radical concept of users as people, and the question: Is dark mode optimal for humans? From…

@rene Doesn't sound so bad, until you check the statistics: "89% of these were male and 11% were female", at least for me; for many others that's a good thing.

3:15 PM
better rename to sadroulette

@Rob I've typed a comment twice (on MSO and on that one) and before I could post the comment the question gets deleted. I've spend enough effort on that.

@Rob I think it should be up to the user.
Unrelatedly - I am running 1.2 because many android apps won't work if their backend is 1.3 ( I use a ttrss mobile client and element for matrix)

I've seen a post recently that asked about adding <samp> to the allowed html. But that got probably deleted because I left a grumpy comment. Does anyone else happen to have a link / history / or maybe you're a mod and can search deleted questions ....
I'm basically looking for a recent dupe for meta.stackexchange.com/questions/42692/…

6:02 PM
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating 16K! ;)

Rob
@rene Using samp seems to work fine, just use it:

@Rob it doesn't render once you post. It gets stripped out server side.

Rob
Didn't go that far, I guess that's a bug; because apparently Markdown allows samp.

Markdown allows all tags. Doesn't mean SE preserves them
You can even make up your own <flower>works</flower>

Rob
6:18 PM
Yes, but the preview gave a reasonable result (do you like the appearance?) which should have been preserved. --- How would flower be expected to render - marquee :)

6:37 PM
blink !

Q: Alternative for <blink>

stommestackThe <blink> tag was never an official standard, and is now completely abandoned by all browsers. Is there a standards compliant way of making text blink?

6:56 PM
@rene It's not in the recently deleted MSE stuff, very few hits on 'samp'.
try MSO?
It's the only comment I can find on your profile that references samp... If it's not, can you give me a few words you remember from your comment? I might be able to see if it exists on meta.

@Tinkeringbell no, that is the one that triggered my search in my history.
@Tinkeringbell maybe a comment on a deleted question where I referenced: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/1777 ?

@rene Most recent hit I get for that link is meta.stackexchange.com/q/326436/369802

7:15 PM
Hmm, that is not it. It must have been on MSO then. I'll ask the mods there in the backchannel.
thanks for trying. Sorry that I'm that vague.

I'm not even sure what samp is.
And, yes, I know I'm on the internet.

it is an html tag <samp> to markup examples semantically.

But ... it doesn't look different in the preview.

@rene no worries!

@Catija it doesn't because css and lack of support on SE

7:19 PM
Maybe I misunderstand Rob's example, then.
I was under the impression that the example was showing it "working" ... but it doesn't look like it's working.

it appears to be working but SE kindly strips out all html tags it doesn't want to support, leaving only the text you typed between the tags.

7:38 PM
The tag sanitizer also breaks HTML comments containing the > sign, e.g. <!-- redvines > twizzlers --> because the first part is stripped out as a bad HTML tag.
This is despite the fact that > is explicitly declared as a valid character in a comment in the HTML5 specification.

meh

How could this question have 4 reopen votes and not be open?
Does it take 5 or 3?
Oops. 5...

9:15 PM
yeah it's 3 on SO, not everywhere
iirc it was being reviewed on a per-site basis

9:27 PM
Is there a way I can know how many more upvotes I need on my existing questions in order to ask questions again?

Rob
@rene I thought we had finished discussing that, so I didn't reopen it; but it's not clear that it works, see this example:

9:40 PM
@AnnZen nope

10:09 PM
@Rob define "works". if you look at the final DOM it doesn't work as some might expect: i.stack.imgur.com/l8OuN.png

Rob
10:31 PM
@rene I never realized that such usage could be unclear for someone whose first language isn't English, definition 17: wordreference.com/definition/works
> "I thought we had finished discussing that, so I didn't reopen it; but it's not clear that it is effective."

11:18 PM
@AnnZen no
And that's vaguely the wrong question
That focuses too much on external parties doing things for short term gain.
The real question would be how to improve the quality of your overall contributions to avoid getting banned at all
And SE is more than asking questions
