@SonictheStay-HomeHedgehog parrot got there first

6:31 AM
pirate bay search @rene @Glor @Art @Mith @Sonic

6:49 AM
No the Pirate Bay stays. It is the reason XS4ALL is my ISP. Not because I use the Pirate Bay but because XS4ALL refused to censor that specific site on demand by the Government ....
Just want to make a point: Free the Internet people!
Oh, it is gone ...

Isn't XS4ALL quite dead though?

oh no, the new one was tinked.
The pirate was just Soniced.
@Tinkeringbell doesn't appear dead...
XS4ALL is the sixth-oldest Internet service provider (ISP) in the Netherlands, after NLnet, SURFnet, HCC!hobbynet, Knoware and IAF. The name is a play on the English pronunciation of access for all. XS4ALL was the second company to offer Internet access to private individuals, since 1993. Founded in 1993 as an offshoot of the hackers club Hack-Tic by Felipe Rodriquez, Rop Gonggrijp, Paul Jongsma and Cor Bosman, while based in Amsterdam. Initially only offering dial-in services via modem and ISDN, today it offers dial-up access as well as ADSL, (bonded) VDSL, and fiber-optic (FTTH) services as well...

@Tinkeringbell yeah, sad trombone ...

It will be renamed soon though, and new company will be founded.

@user400654 thanks, it was a relief.
No unicode for a basin, what a shame. How can we wash our hands?!
Until then, let's use this. Keep Your Hands Clean!

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance With soap and water?
πŸ§ΌπŸ’§ ;)

@Tinkeringbell nice, but not enough... the "bar of soap" doesn't really look like a bar or soap, more like a blue-ish bread slice.... ;)

🚿

Shower tap?
I don't wash my hands in the shower, too risky... can get all wet. :(
And don't tell me to go wash hands in the ocean (there's surely ocean unicode, right? ;)) it's even worse than leaving hands unwashed.... :P
Also, the soap icon looks too similar to the Coronavirus icon: 🦠
Same colors used. Suspicious... lol

apparently russia is actually developing a UV-Light treatment? or was that a troll

@user400654 UV C will kill corona
Also the top layer of your skin. your eyes....

right

@user400654 same level as Trump's bleach.
High class trolling.

i mean

People can also put themselves inside a microwave.

1:46 PM
it'd be 100% effective
one way or another

It will surely kill the virus.
The one and only real solution is going to be biological.
I'm surprised nobody suggested to replace the lungs with artificial lungs, which can't get infected. :P

If you mean external circulation... that might actually be a good idea.
If you mean a transplant, we don't have the technology I believe.

@JohnDvorak really?? Only kidneys? Let me see....

@JohnDvorak sure we do

oh... we can only put lungs of other person.

1:57 PM
Uh, yeah?

@M.A.R. link?

So maybe put lungs of young people inside older people?

What tech are we talking about?

@M.A.R. artificial lungs.

lung transplants are a thing

1:58 PM
@djsmiley2kStaysInside not artificial.

artifical luings sounds more difficult, pig lungs maybe?

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance There's a good chance that the Covid-19 mortality would rise among lung donors though.

That's my point, since artificial lungs are immune to corona. ;)
@JohnDvorak well, you can pay their parents lots of money. ;)

The problem seems to be Covid attacks in such a way, your immune system goes wild
the cure? Chemo? :/

I'd rather send a letter of condolence than apology money :P

2:00 PM
@djsmiley2kStaysInside nope, it won't help, surely many places tried already.

Have they, actually?
I mean, it makes sense they would, but has anybody actually said they did?

@djsmiley2kStaysInside I think that's some end-stage thing
I think the treatment mostly just involves dealing with severe respiratory symptoms

@JohnDvorak I... did not find. Feel free to try, let us know how it went. :D
Common sense screams "NO" here though.

Yeah, sounds like backward logic

It kills the immune system that's the whole point of chemotherapy, isn't it?
So those doing it are the most vulnerable to the virus.... but what if they already have the virus? hmm....

2:05 PM
There's a problem with this thinking
you don't harm someone who's already ill, unless you know it'll help
So you don't 'randomly' treat someone with Chemo, unless you're pretty sure it'll help, or it's the only option

You use chemo to target body's own cells, cancerous cells take the biggest hit, and we call it cancer treatment

And you need to be pretty strong to survive it...

@djsmiley2kStaysInside or the one being ill is beyond help, so anything can work.
@djsmiley2kStaysInside yeah, this. :)

When the body's being already hit by a virus, it makes no sense to me

in the US, that requires approval

2:06 PM
problem is, anyone weho's at that point, likely wouldn't survive chemo
But, still, I wonder....
OR something like tapeworms

Again, AFAIK the treatment at the moment just involves not letting people die until something more certain can come along

Need more silent carriers, to test and compare them

@djsmiley2kStaysInside surely there are millions all around, problem is to find them.
Corona tests cost lots of money.

Sends naval force towards @DJs

Israel now perform 10k tests per day, after huge efforts to make it possible...
@djsmiley2kStaysInside leeches?

Ben Matthews on June 08, 2020
In a previous role, I was an engineering manager for a well-known company for a particular tech stack. One way we sorted through all the applications was requiring coding tests for potential candidates. One truly stood out, and it taught me to think about what I am really looking for in these sorts of submissions.

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance yeah, we started testing here last Tuesday. You had to make an appointment by phone. There ... were more calls then they anticipated ....

Rob
3:23 PM
@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance Are they wasted efforts, after social distancing has been cancelled almost everywhere?
Those images are all less than one week old, guess which one is Israel?

all of them?

Rob
Yes, and taken seconds apart; using burst mode.
Inception is a 2010 science fiction action film written and directed by Christopher Nolan, who also produced the film with his wife, Emma Thomas. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a professional thief who steals information by infiltrating the subconscious of his targets. He is offered a chance to have his criminal history erased as payment for the implantation of another person's idea into a target's subconscious. The ensemble cast includes Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Dileep Rao, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, and Michael Caine. After the 2002...

@Rob Probably the one with the Israeli flag...

Rob
It was a rhetorical question, suggesting that either he doesn't get out much, only watches local news, or is a Panacea denier.

3:40 PM
@Rob no protests here (yet, at least not in big scale), but yeah... social distancing is something everyone laugh about. Checks are still vital to determine when it's a critical hit, then put the lockdown in place again.

There was a 200-person protest in Jerusalem yesterday

Rob
Flush all efforts of the past 4 months.

@Mithical small scale, doesn't count... there are house parties with more people these days.
(see also: Omer Adam.)
In the protests at least they try: they wear masks and keep apart. In parties, they have no masks and hug each other.

Rob
In NA there are different rules everywhere, but generally it's groups of less than 20-50 and 2 meter spacing; which is insufficient.

People like the one above are to blame, IMO.
Sufficient is people will actually follow those orders.

Rob
3:44 PM
Homemade masks do little, N95 masks are not perfect; this is why you see some people in *Astronaut suits*
Concerns have elevated beyond getting a little sick, maybe dying; people are offended by oppression and the Old Boys Club

4:06 PM
@Rob The whole messaging here so far has been that you may care as little as you like about getting sick or dying, you also have a responsibility of not getting others sick and killed.
That was the case when people protested about being locked down, and that is still the case for any other protest too. You stick to the guidelines (which, surprisingly, most protests seem to have succeeded in) or you don't get to protest at all.

Rob
@Tinkeringbell If you are located in the Netherlands I see little evidence of people following any guidelines: too close, homemade masks (some around the neck), too many people, extended period of time, etc. - that's less than a week ago.

@Rob That was the first one in a series of many, and the only one that ended up being handled horribly. A similar thing happened in Rotterdam and the organisation cancelled it + people left calmly after it became clear that social distancing could be guaranteed (people started to crowd near the front, near a stage). There have been several more where people stayed on their spot and distanced.

Rob
Unless those few thousand people intend to self-quarenteen for two weeks afterwards they will generate another wave of outbreaks.

That one was nearby, yesterday. 2500 people in total
@Rob Oh, true.
I'm not saying what those people did was right. I'm also saying that a protest can be done.

Rob
There's very mixed results, but it only takes a few rule breakers (one bad apple rule) to partially reset everything; and the second wave is coming (or here) to respin the whole mess.

4:20 PM
I guess so.

Rob

There are huge benefits of the Panaceum, we can now see Everest from Kathmandu:

And, thanks to Musk's trains, we can stargaze from the safety of our remote homes instead of from outside :D

Rob
Yes, why buy a telescope when you can view a closeup HD movie of our Solar system. Modern times are certainly better than the bad old days.
Except wages used to be a lot higher, decades ago.

@Rob You would expect some to admit that there is a pollution problem. Although the Beijing Olympics were also held in "clean" air but that returned to "normal' after the games were over.
Maybe economic drivers are more important.

Rob
^ True: https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/news/story/3501/beijing-olympics-provides-rare-window-into-air-pollutions-effect-on-health.aspx
Plastic in the ocean is a bigger problem, we can breathe our own stench but it's wrong to dump plastic into the ocean; only to end up eating it.

5:33 PM
Wait, you take your food out of the wrapping?

@rene yeah, a family relative "won" a test for his toddler when he (the kid) had a fever for three days and a cough, without other symptoms. What he didn't realize it means auto quarantine until test result arrives... Which can take several days.
And here they mark internally people who should be in quarantine and track their phones.
If you try to go somewhere, police will arrive and escort back home.

I like free-rides ...

Rob
6:21 PM
@Tinkeringbell I guess you could leave it in the wrapping, then it would come out packaged; but not as neatly stacked as @Sha's.

Same link twice :P

Rob
Grrrr, it's very difficult to use this chat since Firefox changed the way it works, the chat entry window floats and sometimes disappears - one ends up not being able to see what they are doing and attempting to correct things leads to endless attempts to tap on the correct spot to make the correction; sure be glad when they fix the few dozen bugs they introduced after making their drastic reworking of everything.

no repro. My text input box still sticks to the bottom.
Oh. Mobile. Didn't check.

Rob
An advantage that the fictional Andromeda Strain virus had over our current situation is that it ate plastics.

We do have bacteria that eat plastic.

weird

Rob
Scrolling makes it jump randomly, sometimes disappearing and difficult to get back.

@Rob my logs are much neater than that indeed. Want a pic? ;)
@Rob use Chrome then?
What's the second link should have been?

Rob
Other problems is that the 'Desktop Mode' button is partially sticky; you can set it and it sticks, after sometime it disables itself while remaining stuck, so you can't toggle it to reload the page. Another problem is tap and hold the back button for Tab History, which erases itself after some period of time. Yet another difficulty is seeing what you are pinging about while I type this. The list goes on ...

@Rob can't you tap the "mobile" link? Mobile chat theme isn't perfect but much better than desktop version on mobile device.
@Rob FF really sucks that much? It was bad (for me) when I tried it for few weeks few years ago, ditched it to never try again. Sad they only made it worse since then...
But really, why not Chrome?

Rob
6:42 PM
@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance All my Tabs were saved on reload in Firefox; crippling my use of them. I've looked for a transfer or converter to move then to a different version of FF or over to Chrome and found nothing.

Rob
"Not available on Firefox for Android. You can use this add-on with Firefox for Desktop. Learn more about add-ons for Android.".
I had to pick my poison; hoping an update or two will be the remedy.
At least my 2 year phone got another update the other day, great improvements almost everytime; this last one was just a security update.
Samsung has shipped almost 4 GB of updates the past two years, not too bad.

Every update of my phone OS is horrible, things work much worse after it. Every single time.

Rob
It runs as fast as when I first got it (despite being stuffed with APPs, photos, junk); probably still be a good second phone several years from now (which is great, considering the wallet draining price).

I try not to install anymore, but phone insists, and very stubborn.

What brand?

The Chinese, Huwawe (spelling?)

Rob
Whawhawha (sad trombone sound).

It pops the install banner every day with option to "remind later" but sometimes I miss-tap, and it's game over...
I got better, think I'm in day 60 or so.

Rob
Can you tap on the Switcher, then swipe to close?

@Rob no it's not an app.

Rob
6:54 PM
You've had your phone two months?
A system reminder, :(

And sometimes it pops out of the blue, in the middle of tapping something else, then it usually ends.
@Rob over a year, after third update or so realized it's just doing harm.

I've heard there's a secret fanatic badge if you manage to delay your phone upgrades by 365 days.

Done! I bought Mate SE. :)
Can anyone go back in time and tell me not to buy it? ^

Rob
I have Android 10, and the phone's UI is called "One UI"; so all Notifications and annoyances can be controlled (even the ping can be customized).

@Rob yeah, mine also got fancy stuff I never delved into.
@JohnDvorak I'll take your word for it. ;)

7:00 PM
My phone didn't have split screen out of the box. It came with the update.

Rob
@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance Yikes!, depending upon where you look the Mate SE is slightly more expensive than my Samsung S9+; and the S8+ is half the price.

oh... it's a phone? I thought Stack Exchange was launching a dating site!

The Matese (Italian: Monti del Matese or Massiccio del Matese) is a chain of mountains in southern Apennines, southern Italy. == Geography == The Matese mountains straddle two regions (Molise and Campania) and four provinces (Campobasso, Isernia, Benevento and Caserta). The highest peak, on the boundary between Molise and Campania, is the Monte Miletto, at 2,050 m, followed by the Gallinola (1,923 m a.s.l.), Monte Mutria (1,823 m a.s.l.), Monte Monaco di Gioia and Monte Maio. One of (actually, two of) my classmates got COVID

Hopefully not any you met recently?

One has diabetes I
@Tinkeringbell No, we have never met since this thing started

I don't think that one's contagious?

Thankfully, he only seems to be complaining about a bit of headache, nothing more
@JohnDvorak It's the often more severe diabetes though
They take huge doses of insulin everyday

@JohnDvorak same here, sometimes I activate it by mistake.

7:19 PM
Apparently COVID has been known to kill diabetics within three days, so worrying is... justified.

No offense to Eeps

@M.A.R. didn't say I replied...

@Sha, if your phone is a couple of years old and you're unhappy you can trade it in while it still has value: haaretz.com/israel-news/business/… cellomat.com - In the US it's sometimes possible to get a few hundred dollars towards the new phone. The Samsung Store lets you bring in ancient non-working junk for a hundred dollar credit.

@M.A.R. are you also small? (of stature)

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance No I'm pretty big actually
Which was one complication for the transplant

Rob
Platypuss size?

7:31 PM
@Rob Don't underestimate them
Perry the Platypus (also known as Agent P or simply Perry) is a bipedal platypus and main character from the American animated series Phineas and Ferb and Milo Murphy's Law. Perry was created by the series' co-creators, Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh. He first appeared along with the majority of the main cast in the pilot episode "Rollercoaster". Perry is featured as the star of the B-plot for every episode of the series, alongside his nemesis Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz. A mostly silent character, his lone vocal characteristic (a rattling of Perry's beak) was provided by Dee Bradley Baker....

@M.A.R. you got Shrink Pills?

I spend most of my time in a neo noir urban environment though

With the top hat and deep voice and all
@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance The Mate one?
You sure that's not Matte?
Who calls the phone "Mate"?

@M.A.R. luckily not, it would have surely died. Mate only fell to floors.

Having to mail your phone to the Mfg to get a repair is annoying, and decreases the value upon resale.

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance Okay mate

@Rob I didn't send it, just waited to the screen to arrive and had it installed in a lab.

@Tinkeringbell thank you :) Would it be possible to add that information in the FAQ?

7:55 PM
@Rob my phone is too passive, it sometimes reacts only when I use force.

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance I don't think so? Isn't that for accounts that still exist?

@Tinkeringbell not sure, worth digging.

@ShadowKeepsSocialDistance I found meta.stackexchange.com/questions/320572/…
@double-beep Let's dig into this first then, like Shadow said.
It's also already kinda there in the section on reputation and badges:
> What happens to the reputation and badges I've earned? Can I request my account be restored?
All reputation and badges you've earned on your account will be erased. Posts will generally not be deleted, but will be dissociated - i.e. will no longer be "owned" by an account, so you will cease to have special privileges on them. Any votes on your posts will no longer earn reputation for any account, though other users can still start and award bounties on them.

**You cannot later request that your account be restored - if you later decide to rejoin the site, you will start off as a brand ne

I am helping a user trying to log into chat.stackexchange.com, on the log-in screen they see this image. As it says Meta at the top they are concerned this will create an MSE account for them. Can someone verify this will not create an MSE account and that it will ask for confirmation before creating a account?

@Daniil The login flows for stackexchange.com and Area 51 were rerouted to go through Meta Stack Exchange a while back in order to remove support for OpenID. It seems the login flow for chat.SE goes through stackexchange.com - in which it might create a Meta account.
They shouldn't need to log in to chat manually, though - once they're logged in on any SE site, they should be automatically logged in to chat.SE.
Ask them if they get a server error when trying to open an actual chat room - if they do, it's this bug

Rob
11:42 PM
@Daniil It shouldn't, but they can avoid the message by logging into the site were they do actually have an existing account; then they will be logged in everywhere, but not necessarily have accounts everywhere (still seeing a message that to participate in a particular site that they need an account and sufficient reputation for said participation; which is 0, guest, for some activities on some sites).
Of course, there are 3 chat servers (MSE and SO are separated from the rest) so they'll need enough reputation on each of those sites for those two chats, but reputation on any of the other ~175 must exceed 20: https://meta.stackexchange.com/a/257821/282094
