Parsing JSON with SQL... fun times...
@404 CC-By-SE 5?

Copy-Cut By Stack Exchange?

@ShadowTheDragonWizard JSON_VALUE ? Done that: meta.stackexchange.com/a/326899/158100

Better than parsing SQL in JSON...

certainly true

@rene Drills a hole in the bottom of the flower pot. Does that help?

@ShadowTheDragonWizard are you on LEVEL 130? SQL SERVER 2016

meh, not going to mess with levels for that
15 minutes and I'll have a function to parse what I need. ;)
Also server might have SQL Server 2014, not sure
@Tinkeringbell now it's easier for him to use toilets, no need to drop the pants. :P

@ShadowTheDragonWizard json_value was introduced on sql 2016 ... :(
Happy CharIndex to you ...

7:05 AM
Big news: Just found out the bigger paper cups at the office can hold a double dose of coffee :D

Uh-oh. She's caffeinated.

I always redefine "hold" for smaller cups.

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[ExtractUserDetail]
(
	@RawDetails nvarchar(1024),
	@DetailTitle nvarchar(50)
)
RETURNS nvarchar(256)
AS
BEGIN
	Declare @TitleIndex int;
	Declare @CommaIndex int;
	Declare @LookFor nvarchar(60);
	Declare @UserDetail nvarchar(256);
	Set @UserDetail='';
	Set @LookFor='"' + @DetailTitle + '":';
	Select @TitleIndex=CHARINDEX(@LookFor, @RawDetails);
	If @TitleIndex>0 Begin
		Set @TitleIndex=@TitleIndex+Len(@LookFor)
		Select @CommaIndex=CHARINDEX(',', @RawDetails, @TitleIndex);
Not perfect and pretty basic but fits my needz. :D
(the user details come in JSON format)

7:22 AM
CodeReview.SE welcomes you...

lol
Never posted there

@Mithrandir Just a little. I need at least one more ;)

@Tinkeringbell and smaller? ;)

@ShadowTheDragonWizard Nope. Just a double regular dose. But yeah, a single serving is small ;)

@ShadowTheDragonWizard No ',' in that userdetails field, ever?

7:38 AM
CSV's nightmare...

exactly
You need a parser :(

@Tinkeringbell machine?
@rene shouldn't be, it should be encoded in that case
(it's going through JSON.stringify of node.js)
hmm... not sure though
@rene ShadowParser 2.0

8:05 AM
@ShadowTheDragonWizard nope, {"field":"break Shadows, code", "foo":"bar"}
is valid JSON

oh my
hoping client won't choose names with a comma

8:52 AM
@OptimusPrime long time no •!
one of the more weird trolls/spammers I've seen lately...

9:05 AM
@ShadowTheDragonWizard Yep.

9:58 AM
@Tinkeringbell free of any cost? ;)
BTW why did you not delete the confidence question? Any reason? Usually you delete right away after posting the welcome comment.
No? Or is it only Mr. Geek? ;)

@ShadowTheDragonWizard Oh... I got distracted :)
Is gone now ;)

@ShadowTheDragonWizard Yep, free coffee!

Who distracted you?!
:D

Coworkers, work, and other chatrooms ;)
There's a lot of distractions here!

10:01 AM
@Tinkeringbell nice! Actually someone brought a machine here too, but for some reason nobody is using it.

Well, these are paid for by the office... so we don't have to clean them ourselves XD

10:15 AM
@ShadowTheDragonWizard sometimes we get distracted
or can't write a comment ;p

@JourneymanGeek no excuse can justify not deleting off topic question!!!1!!one!!!1!!!
:P

@ShadowTheDragonWizard Oh? What are you going to do if I don't delete? XD
Should I be scared now?

do you want to be scared?

It's not Halloween yet. It can wait ;)

10:30 AM
I want to be cared :(

@Tinkeringbell paint all your socks in the same color. :-D

@ShadowTheDragonWizard Nooo!

@rene whatever sails her boat..... :P

... her hair?

I'm (almost?) sure there are people who actually enjoy being scared. ;)

10:33 AM
Oh... talking about boats...
i.stack.imgur.com/DWbbF.jpg I got to steer a 100 year old wooden one last week! :D

You go on a cruise?
With Tom?! :D
@Tinkeringbell ohhh nice!

@ShadowTheDragonWizard What do I need Tom for? All I'd do is end up cleaning up after yet another guy.

Missed it on Twitter. @Tink
Unless you didn't post it there? lol

@ShadowTheDragonWizard Didn't post it there :) (Not yet). Picture was just shared at work this morning :)

@Tinkeringbell he's famous
And rich
And some say handsome

10:35 AM
@ShadowTheDragonWizard I don't need paparazzi or more money. and for looking at him I can get a poster.

lolz
You can't touch a poster
oh wait

@ShadowTheDragonWizard oh they will be. Eventually....

@ShadowTheDragonWizard Pic is on Twitter now too :)

I think he's beyond paparazzi these days... he's not the center of attention for quite a few years, so you should be safe. :P

I'm fine all by myself ;)

A question to add to SO Developer Survey: what license covers the user-contributed content on SO?
I think "MIT" will be among the leaders.
After all, it says here in bold that Starting Feb 1, 2016, all new code contributions to Stack Overflow and Stack Exchange will be covered by the MIT License.
And the yellow thing on top looks like an AdSense text ad, so is mostly invisible.

Or is that a bad idea?
(It has a migration history. never mind)

404
I think dealing with posts like that should be up to SE staff, in any event.
They could have edited it - by way of severe truncation - so that any confusing bold statements are in revision history for those who want to see the history.

@404 There's... quite some mess in older questions... Not sure how much effort they're really worth too ;)

404
It's a bit different when a post demonstrably leads people to believe that their contributions are covered by MIT license.

@404 Well, animuson did an edit on the follow up post just striking things through. Perhaps that's an option for this one too, with additional links to the follow up post....
That way you don't really 'deface' the post as much as by hiding everything in the revision history...

404
12:35 PM
Yeah, I think a strikethrough would be an improvement
Especially when the link to followup has text "The promised follow-up is here, requiring attribution and postponing the change to March 1, 2016." -- after reading this, why would I click, I already understand what the follow-up says.

@404 Yeah, changing that to 'indefinitely' is probably better too...
Feel free to fix it if you feel it's worth the effort.
Timeline shows enough activity to perhaps warrant spending some effort there...

404
Well it's not my users who are getting confused by that announcement, so.

@404 Hey, you want to help out or not! :P

@Tinkeringbell I think he just wants to see the world burn
and have a cold beer in its glowing embers

I guess that falls under 'not' :P

12:56 PM
Watching the world burn by saving them? :O

Doesn't @Sonic like to edit stuff? :P
I'm too lazy to do it myself (and still at work ;) )

It's their announcement. Those were once supposed to be untouchable with a special tag.

@404 Oh really? That's from before my time XD

Q: We're Implementing an "announcement" Tag for Direct Communication From the Team

Tim PostUpdate (Feb 17) We're going to scrap this idea as presented. This is something that had been kicked around a bit for the last few months as we considered ways to communicate "This is what we've been doing and thinking about" types of things here on meta. We're going to develop the idea a bit mo...

Oh... Okay.

404
1:06 PM
Preventing edits wasn't mentioned there, although that would make more sense.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll remember to look into it more tonight...

404
> We're going to develop the idea a bit more and then propose something more thought out.
Which was apparently: post on the blog instead.

Oh, I remember that... that was a ... fun time.

404
Tavern: old timers reminiscing about the stands they took or gave or were given, once upon a time.

Time to mow the lawn...

1:09 PM
On a different note, I can either call or Facebook message the army. Guess which one I'm opting for...

Facebook :P

Bingo!

Time to stand?

No, I'm going to keep sitting. I'm a lazy developer and I don't really like standing desks.

lol
I sometimes walk around

1:20 PM
@Aibobot Oh, me too! To the coffee machine, or the toilet. Or even to a meeting room sometimes ;)

@Tinkeringbell oh inside my office too
We have a window!

@Aibobot We too! Pretty nice view too, of the train tracks. I don't usually take the time to stand in front of it though...

@Tinkeringbell oh, ours has... a road
but in day time, natural light maaaan

@Aibobot That can be nice too! Especially if it's a busy one and dark outside :D

@Tinkeringbell oh it can be

1:21 PM
I like natural light, but the sun shines directly at me in the morning at the office :/

One of the offices of this company has a view of the busy road too, and in winter it's really fun to watch all the headlights. Especially if there's traffic :)

or all hell's broken lose and there's a traffic jam ;p

That too! But it needs to keep moving a bit to be really mesmerizing :)

If I go too long without moving I get restless. I have a swivel chair at my desk in my bedroom, and I'm always swiveling around when I'm at my computer...

I'm swinging(?) my body back and forth instead...

1:25 PM
@Mithrandir That's usually how you can see I'm about to visit the bathroom XD
@MetaAndrewT. I play with the cords from my shirts or necklaces.

I use a standing desk most of the time but it's not adjustable so sometimes I sit in a comfy chair in my living room with my laptop in my lap.
Once the house is done I'll finally get a real desk/chair setup.

@Catija dosen't SE include an awesome chair in the hiring package? ;p

@Catija The perks of working from home! In summer, you can setup outside too :D

(That said, I'm inordinately fond of my current chair)

@Aibobot Herman Miller Aeron chair or something... yeah. But I didn't get it or the desk yet because I had nowhere to put it since my house is going through major renovations... they started in September last year and they're nearly done now.

1:39 PM
@Catija had one a few jobs ago
they're insanely nice

@Tinkeringbell You don't know much about the temps in Texas, do you... ;) It's hitting 37 c most days for the last two months.

@Catija But that's a completely different heat than 37 degrees over here! (at least, that's what everyone taking sun vacations says here XD)
Hahaha I'd stay inside too, unless I could somehow set myself up in a pool :)

Dunno... I spent Wed-Sat in Redwood City and it was nice... spent as much time outside as I could.

@Catija Oh yeah, how was the .. summit? conference? thingus?

she got socks

1:43 PM
I did not, sadly.
Only two yoyos.

:/

I did get a book and an e-book.

@Catija Don't let anyone tell you those are worse than socks :P

I told Jeff the socks are pretty... that doesn't mean I got one (or a pair), sadly. :(

@Catija Of course you're not getting socks... Master doesn't give Dobby a sock, lest Dobby becomes free! :P

1:44 PM
I still have a ton of SO stickers left over.
@Tinkeringbell Y'a know... SO has socks, too. :P

@Catija Yeah, I saw that on Twitter a long time back.
Books and e-books are always great too btw ;)

One of the books is about learning how to not get distracted...

Step 1: Close all browser tabs ;)
And okay, hint taken. I'll go back to work! :P

I was talking about myself! :P

You don't seem distracted? ;)

1:48 PM
Oh, wait... I got two books and an e-book.

Nice!

Oh, that's distractingly yellow.

And that one reminds me of that 10x developer thing on Twitter a while back XD

1:50 PM
HAHAHA that was an utter failure!

Yeah, that one was almost as funny as sharpie-gate!
I think there's still people stuck with handles referring to that 10x thing

lol
Jeff not master ;p

@Aibobot Doesn't matter. Thought still counts! Catija doesn't get socks, and doesn't get set free :P

@Tinkeringbell that was... depressing ;p
the 10x thing
I mean I KNOW THE UNDERLYING MINDSET IS A THING
but its still kinda messed up to see

Hmmmm. I can't find the cards for the third book. :/
I hope Andy didn't toss them.
Gus might have eaten them...

1:53 PM
@Aibobot Oh, the fact that it's a thing is already messed up enough I guess...

0_0
@Tinkeringbell well, its vaguely 'my' culture
and I have a cousin who works HR
and I complain a lot about the environment where IT folks are disposable contractors
and honestly, my job really sucks this week ;p
I can't do annnnnyyyttthiingggggg

Found it! - amazon.com/…

@Aibobot That sucks. I had three months of that before my vacation. It's a bit better for now :)

@Catija this would worry me ;p

Gus likes eating paper.

2:09 PM
I don't think humans can digest paper that well 😁

Don't you know... babies aren't human. :P

pretty sure they are
only smol

@Aibobot And sticky.

eh, what was that?
Keep one end full and the other end dry?

Did you know that you don't have your sinuses until you're in your teens.

2:22 PM
I do now? :P

@Catija can I give them back? ;p

IKR!

(I have fun random allergy attacks)

Sounds like a superpower.

@Catija If not being able to see out of your right eye cause its swollen is a superpower

2:25 PM
You know... when I was a kid my dad told me once that I was too young to have a headache... I wonder if this is why he thought that...

oh and that sinus above my eyes....
eeeeeeg

zzz

@Feeds stack-overflow-blog-one-box-fail/

Dropping this here so that I remember to look at it later... twitter.com/bevylabs/status/1171217512052273156?s=20

@MetaAndrewT. honestly that annoys me a lot
And feels borderline unprofessional :/

404
@Feeds FR: a way to filter out posts by people with "Content Writer" in their job title.
Sincerely, a Content Reader.

@404 the blog is still, very fundamentally a marketing tool
I'd actually love them going back to having seperate blogs for seperate functions - like the SREs using blog.serverfault (serverfault.blog?)

1 hour later…
5:32 PM
Better than "Discontent Writer" with "Discontent Reader"...

404
Dear Sir or Madam, will you read my post?
It took me hours to write, will you click the blog?
It's based on a story of a man named Wolf,
And I need a job,
So I want to be a Content Writer.

6:07 PM
eh, That dosen't seem very nice to the person who wrote it :/
I mean, I'm as much a critic of the blog as anyone, but that seems really close to ... well insulting the writer. Not cool

6:25 PM
i'd just rather there be a bit more... curation on what does and doesn't take up that top bilboard spot.

@KevinB the SO blog has been mainly that for quite a bit
On one hand, moving announcements into that is a 'reversion' to how Jeff used to do it. On the other, I suspect that its almost always going to be a certain amount of... well advertising

i'm a bit biased of course though, i despise the jobs tool.

eh
I'm not a big fan, also considering the history of it

i feel like 2 out of every 3 posts include at least a mention of it, if not an ad that takes up my whole monitor
but i'm just more sensitive to seeing it

Well, used to be all the posts
Its one of those... works in progress?
On one hand, well
these things keep SE funded
on the other hand, well, SE has gotten a little too distracted by careers in the past ;p

1 hour later…
8:04 PM
@Tinkeringbell I happened to come across the exact same post and had the exact same thought, but couldn't figure it out at the time.

1 hour later…
9:15 PM
@ShadowTheDragonWizard was busy for 5-6 months until I realised that I wasn't actually busy but I'm sleeping 15-16 hours per day and browsing Facebook rest of the day. Decided to start freelancing again now.

Fun fact: in 2009, Wikipedia also went through a licensing update between two incompatible licenses: from the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) to CC BY-SA 3.0.
The way they went about it was that Wikimedia Foundation specifically lobbied the Free Software Foundation to change the GFDL (in version 1.3) so that it allows previous content (published before November 2008) to be re-licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0 without the consent of the authors.
The clause that allowed this has since expired, but the fact that such a clause was added at the behest of the WMF is interesting.
As per the licensing update vote result and subsequent (May 2009) Wikimedia Foundation Board resolution, any content on Wikimedia Foundation projects available under the GNU Free Documentation License 1.2 with the possibility of upgrading to a later version was made available additionally under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License (CC-BY-SA). Specifically with regard to text, since this update, only dual-licensed content or CC-BY-SA-compatible content can be added to the projects, any GFDL-only submissions will no longer be accepted. In other words, CC-BY-SA is the primary...
