¡Por favor, no abusen la función de bandera!
Just what is going on with flags on old messages? I don't know much Spanish so I can't really intervene.

2 hours later…
6:57 AM
@canon also the post on MSO proving Microsoft ad collected private information.

7:18 AM
I... TGIF!?

@MetaAndrewT. Yay! Friday!
The day when my parents tell me at breakfast that oh, yeah, they're coming to do something with the internet today :/

TELL ME SOONER AND I WON'T BE WORKING FROM HOME.

Ah well. I'll see how far I get with the hotspot, so far I still have 'regular' internet

Aww :(

7:34 AM
Don't worry ;) So far so good!
As soon as I stop chatting you'll know I'm using the boss's phone as a hot spot and saving internet ;P

lol :D

@bwDraco just ignore them then

2 hours later…
10:00 AM
@bwDraco Bandera . . . Way more awesome than 'flag'

1 hour later…
11:15 AM
I have a RecursiveDirectoryIterator with which I instantiate a RecursiveIteratorIterator with which I instantiate a RegexIterator which actually gives me an indexed array of the iteratables.
yo dawg I heard you like iterating
so I made an iterator to iterate over your iterator

Pffft...
Too much iterating gets irritating

welcome to the 9th circle of php hell

11:38 AM
Oooh! I hear loud voices. That must mean the people fixing the internet are nearby :D

11:59 AM
Yay!
Real internet is back :D

new firewall policy blocked a whole bunch of websites, including some I need to use
thankfully I'm one of the admins so I can just log into the firewall & add exceptions as necessary

@Magisch Same here, they blocked spotify! Now I'm using youtube XD
Because I don't have the rights to change/bypass stuff :(

lol
I erm
use my own internet
cause office supplied internet sucks

@Aibobot This laptop has some kind of automatic VPN stuff to a company thing that I can't turn off, so even if I use my own internet it's still blocked :(

12:16 PM
@Tinkeringbell ours sucks so much I turn it off

@Aibobot I can't do that :(
Or maybe I can but I'm not interested in learning how to do it if it doesn't just involve some button clicking ;)

This firewall's policy and content filtering rules are crazy
crazy complicated

There's a serious BBQ going on
INSIDE my office
LIke someone has an electric grill
and rediculous amounts of food
and I didn't know there were 5l bottles of lingam

There are 5l bottles of everything ;)

(sweet chilli sauce. The good stuff)

1 hour later…
1:35 PM
@Aibobot I thought that's the smell of a server room...

naw, that's slightly musty, from the server wolves

1 hour later…
3:01 PM
Wolves? I thought it was gnomes...

3:17 PM
@Aibobot "my own internet" telecom mogul...
@Magisch we had github and nuget blocked for a while. That was fun.

3:47 PM
@canon more like teather my phone cause the work line sucks

4:31 PM

I hereby dub the zealous supporters of the welcome wagon, wagonites™.

I foresee a new welcome wagon post in the near future

Telling people to be nicer dosen't really work

4:33 PM
i dont think be nice will be teh subject

be very nice

Please don't go around punishing people for low social skills just because you don't believe in their ability or willingness to learn. It's not nice.

Be sickeningly nice

also, be

@JohnDvorak That's what I'm gonna tell @Journey when he's going to suspend me
@MetaAndrewT. cee
In the meanwhile

Q: Someone is deleting my comments

Minty... for no other reason than that they are mine, or so it seems. I must have offended them. This makes it pointless to go on contributing, so if it's actually a technical problem, please let me know.

4:36 PM
@Marshmallow I will simply reply... Laughs in dog
@JohnDvorak eh. Bit of both.
If we cannot be civil, it is harder to expect civility

What do you mean? It seems like you are unwilling to assume good faith in commenters

@JohnDvorak Personally I think it's at least 80/20. The real listeners usually just let it sit there inside themselves until they can talk about their painful experience elsewhere
At least 80 percent of the more vocal people who keep (over-)using common or cliched phrases will NOT listen

@JohnDvorak well more precisely - unless someone's is going out of their way to be crude or hurtful, they tend to get told what is expected of them

Unless they're being validated.
Wait a sec

But if you're being those things folks either react in kind or ignore you

4:39 PM
Since I have a habit of bunny jumping into the conversation, is there a specific post we're talking about, because I don't wanna sound awkward.

Oh good. I can continue being right without being awkward.

@Marshmallow I madded them
I not welcome :(

Are you at liberty to say more?

Dunno, I'm the bringer of the StExit...

4:51 PM
If what they say is true, they won't be here to mind your openness :P

5:22 PM
a bunch of veterans who mostly just curate leaving helps toward the goal

5:35 PM
@KevinB I'm not sure a focus on just curation is sustainable
It's boring and burns folks out

Curation should be left for the AI. Let humanity enjoy the fun of Q&A instead.

@JourneymanGeek "despite our janitors' best efforts, the sewer system in our system keeps backig up, so let's put them on forced vacation in order to maintain their physical health"?

Eh. If iit dosen't bring you Joy, don't do it

Well, with that attitude, any chance at keeping a body of curators is unsustainable.

There's some folks who thrive on it
I'm not here to janitor first
I answer questions and ask stuff

5:51 PM
I do suppose I would appreciate an AI system that lets me find some questions actually worth answering. Cross-network would be the best.

I still just trawl the front page. SO is trickier I guess
In the early bdays I had a latest questions RSS feed

I like the /realtime page. Any chance of it getting some love in the foreseeable future?
Like the ability to click the links I intend to, as opposed to those just above them?

I really have no idea

Seems a reasonable compromise

It's a pity that answer is community wiki. It had such a distinct voice. Now it's getting committee'd to death. It reminds me how everyone just decided to start mangling that historical "zombie" post a few months ago. Censorship isn't compromise.

@AaronHall hi, python guy ;)

I love the beedeep boodoop sound of the ping in Tavern...

this thing produces sound? I had no idea.

9:16 PM
yeah, it sounds just like TNG's open com thingy.

hah
Two to beam up.

what a smart user interface, right? sometimes they don't even have to tap their badge, it just knows to open the comm channel.

hmm... interesting bug in Chrome 77.0.3837.0 (Official Build) canary (64-bit) (cohort: Clang-64)... it stays in the foreground regardless of focus.
@AaronHall We have these buttons next to the security doors at the office. When exiting the premises, you have to press that button to unlock the door because there's no card-reader on that side. Eventually they added motion detectors; so, you no longer have to hit the button... but everyone still does, out of habit, even years later. Maybe that's what happened with those TNG badges.

sure - and yet everyone's complaining about these devices listening all the time. It didn't seem to bug Captain Picard... :D

Yeah, well... privacy is dead. Except on the holodeck, amirite?

9:30 PM
I responded to an email in my spam folder. Someone asking me to do their tax returns. I did returns a long time ago to improve my financial advising skills. I don't do either anymore. So I offered to get references from my own financial advisors. Unfortunately, I didn't check the domain closely enough, there was an extra n in it. So I probably did in fact respond to spammers. :/
Haskell may get trailing commas at some point, and the Haskell room weighed in on it almost a year and a half ago -> github.com/ghc-proposals/ghc-proposals/pull/…
@Jeremy welcome!

Everyone have a happy weekend!
