Nooooooo I just accidentally clicked on a "user was removed" rep notification and got taken to my reputation tab. Now I've lost my building up of that number :'(

And I misclicked too at some point actually. :(

17k responses? O_o

Yup. Never clicked that.
To be honest, not sure what's in there. lol
Random trivia time! Who is this?

@ShadowWizard woof

8:38 AM
@JourneymanGeek thanks!
heh Google isn't good with gender detection...
(tried to see user age so I might flag, didn't find something obvious though)

Now that's some sketchy sleuthing lmao

@ShadowWizard I think age is one of those things that unless the user explicitly states, we'd rather not know
the ava might not be him.
I mean, your ava is one of your kids ....

I, too, use random children who I do not know for my profile picture.

and @forest is not a monochrome anime girl

lel

8:45 AM
OR IS SHE?

@JourneymanGeek even if e.g. that same person has social media account where they state their age?

@ShadowWizard we don't dig or dox
not worth the effort

Everyone knows doxing children is the best past-time. Wholesome and fun.

@JourneymanGeek sure, but if you "happen to see"? ;)

@ShadowWizard sticks paws over ears and attempts to hum loudly

8:46 AM
@forest that's what Evan does... or did?

lmao really?

plausible
I always assumed it was him when he was younger

I did that kind of thing once, and only to troll someone (on another site).

Anyway @Journeyman my goal is to keep underage person who act like one from using SE and likely get into trouble by their low quality posts.

@ShadowWizard the low quality posts will cause trouble enough
We don't really need to be vigilantes

8:47 AM
@ShadowWizard Judge them by their posts, not by the number of times the Earth has made a full orbit around the sun in the time since they were brought into this world.
The former is highly relevant. The latter is not.

I knew a few teenagers who're mature
and a few adults who weren't.

@forest oh, I do.
> So my friends and I recently decided to troll around. We went to a site and started to book all the time slots available (basically spamming the time slots)

My daughter is 10. I'm 99% sure she could formulate better programming questions than half the adults on SO. If someone is interested in programming, don't stunt their growth!

@forest or general maturity
one of the best mods I knew off SE was a 16 year old
one of the worst was a 30something

Such person and his "friends" can easily use same methods to create sock rings and abuse SE.

8:49 AM
I had a 16yo mod for a site I used to run. He was absolutely insane. Like legit wacko.

@ShadowWizard let us deal with that
we have the tools.
the CMs have bigger tools.

@ShadowWizard Fun fact: So can adults!
Don't be ageist (oh god I hate that word). Don't stunt people's intellectual growth. It's cruel.

@JourneymanGeek who got the biggest tools then? (Sorry... couldn't help it.... ;))

@ShadowWizard that's a good question
I don't know ;p

Shog? Tim?

8:51 AM
The sysadmins. The guys with root.

Let's make a duel!

I suspect shog might

Shog use scripts, that's for sure.

yup
he makes his own tools

He's evolving! :o

8:52 AM
and using olden tools written in the Age of Heros

and I suspect a few (lots?) of CMs are capable of it
well many of the few at least

Found it!
Sep 22 '17 at 22:38, by Shog9
yes. I got to use a tool I've never touched before and wasn't sure actually worked. Good times!
lol
user315433 was Telkitty? Or one of Norm's incarnations?

@forest That's something you deal with at any age, though.

That's true. I've known a lot of very... insane (both violently and just damn weird) people.

(Note: I am biased.)

9:05 AM
@forest the mod I try to be the opposite of was in his 30s, angry all the time, and dropped dead

hah
I used to be a lot crazier and more angry than I am now. I'm glad I've straightened up.
Otherwise I would have gotten banned^Wsuspended here a long time ago.

erm...
TECCCHHNNICAAALLLYYYY

@JourneymanGeek That wasn't a long time ago though :P

Well yeah but that was an accident :^)

It isn't an accident if people warn you ._.

9:08 AM
Oh I thought you meant that hotlink protection thing.

oh
that was just carelessness

I blame my browser cache for not clearing even when I press ctrl+shift+R.
But yes stupidity was absolutely a factor. :P
Totally unrelated: If you visit your own question, does that count as a view?

@forest Yep
Sometimes

Sometimes?

@forest Hitting F5 doesn't always work.

9:15 AM
Just wondering because sometimes I refresh a question to see if it got views. When it goes up by one, I can never tell if someone viewed it or if it was my own refresh.

@forest Well... 50 percent chance it was you ;)

What an inconsistent system.

A: Does viewing your own question add to its view count?

Jeff AtwoodActually, it does, but we're extremely strict in the way we track viewcounts so it ends up not mattering a whole lot. (as a point of reference, if we say a question has 1,000 views it probably has at least 2x real world views, and potentially as many as 5x real world views) We do, however, supp...

I saw a forum once where every GET requested counted as a view to the thread, regardless of the IP, and after hammering it for a few days, it went negative and the forum software crashed.

@forest Meanie. I should write a userscript to boost the views of my questions :P

9:18 AM
@Tinkeringbell FRAUD!

As much as I like to complain about SE's software, at least it's not that bad.

@JourneymanGeek I mean, that's been possible since '10. Don't tell me no-one had that idea before! :P

@forest I think your main frustration is that its closed source

Nah my main frustration is that themes are being butchered.
Being closed source just makes me hate it even more.

Well, other than Jin's gloriously beautiful but apparently hard to maintain skins...
they have been pretty plain Jane

9:20 AM
"apparently"
I'll refrain from voicing my opinion on that given that you don't like me accusing people of stuff. :^)
(I do like that Arqade and WB still have nice themes though, even if they lost a lot)
Oh yeah also forced arbitration. That's another thing I like complaining about.
meta.stackexchange.com/q/12744/384528 / meta.stackexchange.com/q/12766/384528 Huh apparently your views to your own profile count for profile views. Now that's just strange.
Oh nvm, says [status-completed].

Q: How can I see the post rendering without MathJax formatting?

Periodic Sqare wellWhile I'm studying Math, Physics or any other topics which uses a lot of formulas, I'm taking notes using Anki which supports MathJax formating. Since I'd like my notes to be properly formated, I want to copy the MathJax-code. As it currently stands, I have to try and figure out how it is formate...

Shoopi Doobi Doo? Where are you?

Dang. If this was Binter Wash I would have gotten that Baron hat probably.
When I posted my answer, the question was sitting at -3.

@Margarine nah the hat should be awarded to @Catija who made a good edit. ;)

@ShadowWizard Pfft. That was after my answer.

It's SEDE Sunday, and the topic is, naturally, up/down votes. Comparing January-April of this year to the same stretch of 2018.

An unexpected winner: Music Fans

People are tired of politics and have gone back to listening to music.

5:05 PM
The MusicFans.SE is kind of understandable when a few (1?) users suddenly became very active, as can be seen from their meta

Holy crap, hehe

user302202
Yeah, so far in 2019, that one user has more than 10x the votes of the runner-up: 1644 vs 152. musicfans.stackexchange.com/users?tab=Voters&filter=year

@VoteDukakis They're the guy that keeps upvoting the answer in the site tour

Bonus data point: most active voters all-time are: gnat 563117, PeterJ 242257, Gilles 155267.

@VoteDukakis Oh I'm slacking. I'm gonna make up for it though

user302202
Argh, that's one of my former usernames. Granted, it may be difficult to find a name I haven't used yet.

TBH I don't remember at all why I had that one.

@JohnDvorak Ah the joys of language, where one only has to be wrong so many times before it stops being wrong anymore — Freddie R 14 mins ago

@JohnDvorak If enough people use "irregardless", it stops being "wrong". That's kinda the definition of descriptivism
BUT.
What the hell do you mean with "irregardless" anyway? TRIGGERED BIG TIME

I mean "regardless"

6:36 PM
@ShadowWizard Things used to be better back when chat profiles weren't nuked on user deletion...though it makes it harder in case the user later rejoins the site with a new account

Repeat ad nauseam under various MetaSO posts.

8:20 PM
First thread was . . . poetic.
Lemme read the second one.
JESUS CHRIST THAT QUESTION
@VoteDukakis This one was boring. Maybe I'd read the question though, sounded like an effortful rant.
At this rate they should either write a meta.SO post or go to Twitter and Reddit.
I like how the net result of the past 1.5 years has been that "I'll go to Twitter" has become a threat.

The biggest sin of that question is we aren't allowed to downvote it twice

@JohnDvorak at least the OP used "seems to vote" not "votes"

> When analyzing the presence of violations in our dataset, our first observation was that just one of the 336,643 studied code snippets was free of violations (stackoverflow.com/q/51594048). However, a closer look at this particular code snippet revealed that the author who created it intentionally suppressed all warnings raised by ESLINT by commenting the code with the /*eslint-disable*/ instruction.

user302202

user302202
> We manually removed this comment and reran ESLINT on this code snippet. This new execution reported 96 violations. Therefore, the first finding of this work is that no single code snippets in our dataset was free of violations

animusonSo reading a lot of the confusion around this system, I want to clarify some things just so that they're all in one place, before continuing on: As far as the "special deletion" - I've no idea where that terminology actually came from. It's weird and unsettling, and makes it sound like we're wa...

Shog9I'm not gonna call this completed; as you and everyone else reading this know, we do still throw away some votes for some user-deletions... and probably always will for the reasons you noted in your proposal. But we have a system in place to prevent the most disruptive forms of vote deletion, a...

@Glorfindel Would you mind adding mrozekma.com to your list of "known image hosts"? It seems like the user who owns that domain (and embedded images from it pre-HTTPS) doesn't like the "source: mrozekma.com" that your script adds, and consistently edits it out. Ex: meta.stackexchange.com/posts/59370/revisions
See the last 5 edits by this user: meta.stackexchange.com/users/145982/…
They're all to remove the source link your script is adding.
