SO ages of mod candidates so far: 7 (Travis J), 5 (Machavity), 3 (coldspeed), 2 (Peter Haddad, Zoe).

user302202
We know that the optimal age is 30, but how much is that in Stack Overflow years?

2:30 AM
Looks like election morning~

user302202
Yes. 17 hours left in Biology election. Final phase of SESE election. Nominations on SO. Fun!

user302202
Two of the current SO mods are in the SESE.election. Don't they get enough flags?

Flagtastic!

Breakfast and coffee! Yay :)

AFTERNOON!

nooooooooooo
train wreck
Three @Sha here now :D

@JourneymanGeek Someone sounds a bit annoyed?

7:40 AM
actually pretty good

Riddle: what's the longest morning train the Tavern ever had?
Whoa so much smoke here... firing all RO's :P

oh
NEW PC WHO DIS!

bettah?

\o/ watch arrived

7:42 AM
@Tinkeringbell yah

@JourneymanGeek Hi new pc!

well, its mostly new

@Mithrandir you picked it up, or was there a delivery guy/girl? ;)

@ShadowWizard delivered
It's smaller than my current watch :P

7:44 AM
But now I can have a watch on both arms! :P

core i9 9900k 32 gb of ram, my 980TI (I forgot it was a TI!) from my old PC, water cooled CPU (fancy!) M.2 NVMe 250gb samsung evo, anf 1tb sata m.2 WD green....

Nice :)

@Mithrandir that's your current watch?

@JourneymanGeek congrats! Now you're ready for the CM position ;p

@Bookends technically... that's closer to the developer spec ;p
just cut down in a few places
and I suppose that'll have to wait ... a little longer, and they'll probably have even nicer machines by then ;p
I have no clue what CM desktops are - shog uses a phone after all ;p

7:57 AM
I have a feeling the PC CM's use isn't special and just a normal reasonably fast workstation of whatever flavor is preferred

@Magisch though SE's usually had a culture of actually letting folks pick what they need.
(within reason)
and least as a mod, having a ton of screen real estate is nice though not essential
also, I love hardware XD

@ShadowWizard Nani?

8:13 AM
can confirm

@Shaymin NaN
@JourneymanGeek also three for @Jo too bad it doesn't ping. :P

this is feature, not a bug

Pinging Shadow also pings Shine

hm. no?

Anyone can check if this hash is indeed torrent of SE data dump? f8b00f75393b2fca5e8796e48cfe89c2f0536fa2
someone with 1 rep added it, better double check that it's not something bad. I don't have any torrent client ATM.

@ShadowWizard Which dump?

@SonictheWizardWerehog should be March 2019

A: All Stack Exchange data dumps

GuestHere are the torrents for each data dump release. The contents may or may not be available. Stack Exchange Network Data Dumps Release BitTorrent Infohash and Magnet Link2009 May ea45080eab61ab465f647e6366f775bf25f69a61 in Internet Archive 2009 June 68d22f0f856ca5056e009...

By new user with no other accounts, no rep... might as well be a spammer.
And the two who approved most likely didn't check.

erf
Actually...

?
That user is a sock?
I mean, if it's not a spammer then of course it's a sock, just wonder of whom and why sock.
Unless..... oh.

I was going to say, I could probably check the torrent

8:26 AM
oh lol
And I was about to reach conclusion there's good chance it's the answer author.

@ShadowWizard not sure if no other accounts or hid all other accounts

@Bookends yeah can't really know, but it doesn't really matter...

@ShadowWizard its mostly harmless - assuming its the actual link
yup, can comfirm it matches the one on IA
my torrent client is a little... non functional but that's a thing to fix later
but can confirm the torrent hash is legit

And looks like I started downloading the data dump on the office internet

8:42 AM
@Bookends lol
@JourneymanGeek thanks!
batch of two: onclick, voterlist @rene @Bart (No @Glo anymore)

!!/watch bigbits\.in

@SonictheWizardWerehog That pattern looks like it's already caught by Potentially bad keyword in body and Potentially bad keyword in answer; append -force if you really want to do that.

@rene What is an fkey?
@SonictheWizardWerehog are you logged in and do you have a valid fkey on the chat page? — rene 2 mins ago

8:58 AM
foreign key?

afaik it's the user auth token SE uses - used to authenticate you & your session against the server

9:10 AM
fkey is to determine whether you're connecting to a teapot or not

@SonictheWizardWerehog if you do a find in the DOM you should find an <input> element with id=fkey and it should have a value (it is a secret key, so don't share it, just check it exists).

@Magisch correct
12
Q: What is the fkey that's present on some pages and what does it do?

MohamadI am a bit reluctant to ask this question since it may appear sinister (or that it may belong to SO), but my curiosity has peaked: I'm wondering what the "fkey" does that gets sent with a new comment. I read here that using a token can help prevent some forms of session hijacking. I would like t...

@rene or just open console and type $("input[name='fkey']").val(); to see the value right away. :)
Looks like they removed the id and put it as name instead. Weird.

9:30 AM
Halp! Well, this one is really weird, never thought it can happen. :(

@ShadowWizard Rice?
Heat it up, it may evaporate. Can it go in a microwave?

@Tinkeringbell And then it will cool back down.

@Tinkeringbell heh, clever tips. Worth an answer. And yeah, can't see any reason why not put in microwave.
(no metal, it won't melt.)

@ShadowWizard Pressure of evaporating might explode the thing? I'm not sure, I'm no physicist.

hmm... well, another problem is the water are dirty, so even after they go away, dirt will stick there. But that's another matter.
@Tinkeringbell slight chance, the steam will go away via whatever caused the water to enter in the first place...
(probably some tiny hole between the layers)

9:35 AM
Smokey is down

More likely the glass will just explode under the steam pressure

!!/coffee plz

@ArtOfCode That's what I was worrying about too

Generally a post like that would get nuked in seconds, if not reported; I was wondering why there was no "already recently reported" message.
!!/alive

@Tinkeringbell well I'll be careful then, e.g. putting in microwave for 30 seconds only each time.
!!/why are you dead?

9:36 AM
@ShadowWizard brews a cup of Mocha for @plz
@SonictheWizardWerehog You doubt me?

ohh
just huge laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag lol
Likely because the other room here where Smokey post every second, hitting rate limit.

@ShadowWizard No such command 'why'.
:7588329 Missing an argument.

I still think that room is a mistake that harms the actual performance of smokey here.

@ShadowWizard Smokey's being laggy everywhere

@Mithrandir oh. So why is that? Any way to debug?
!!/debug lag

9:43 AM
@ShadowWizard No such command 'debug'.

@ShadowWizard Watch size comparison:

hehe well size doesn't matter :D

o.O that's one massive watch.

It's large, waterproof for 330 feet, has both digital and analog clocks, stopwatch, countdown, 3 alarms, a second timezone, lights up,...

9:47 AM
And carrying its weight around is a good exercise? :P

@Mithrandir let me guess.... a gift you got when you were 13? ;)

@ShadowWizard Nah... I was 14. My grandparents like to get me watches when my old one dies :P they've been getting progressively larger though over the years

@Mithrandir You'll grow into them :P

@Tinkeringbell the SO watch is heavier, I think

@Mithrandir heh. I had one single watch since I was... eh.... 12 or 13 until I was 25 or so. It was a super simple CASIO watch. I think I still stash it somewhere, for historical value. :D

9:50 AM
....I might still have, uh, basically every single old watch I've ever had somewhere

It was like that one:

That makes me wonder if I still have my childhood watch lying around....

And before army I installed a "shield" over its screen to prevent it from breaking.
@Mithrandir whoa, you're a Collector then! :P
@Tinkeringbell Dora the Explorer? Like Tony's watch? ;)

@ShadowWizard nah, just a hoarder
like a dragon

@ShadowWizard Nah, it had a bright yellow strap with blue accents, IIRC

9:54 AM
lol
@Mithrandir so you also got a Long Sword +5 somewhere?

a plastic one
the dagger broke, I think
the shield is sitting on my desk :p

:D
While I love D&D and played it a lot as teenager, never was into RD&D or had any actual equipment.

If it's outdoorsy rugged watches you want... these guys are really good at it

Would you like a timepiece? Watch this space!

@ShadowWizard those things are a bit of a cult classic

10:06 AM
@JourneymanGeek I had one like that before this oen
now i'm wearing the SE one because much like the SE tshirt, it has a lot of style associated with it :D

@JourneymanGeek eh, well, here it was just a popular and cheap watch back in the day.

A: Where is the fallacy here?

Mark AndrewsHere is the argument: No N is not-N. No not-N is N. All C are N. No R are C. Thus: No R are N. The syllogism is invalid for two reasons. First, the third premise denies the antecedent (cats) of the fourth. There can be other animals that are normal. Wikipedia: Denying the antecedent; Formal ...

@ShadowWizard I dunno but these chat messages also trigger me,
Still looking for a reason,

anyone knows why this question is really really bad?

Q: Why should the Help Page provide information on the website only?

OokerThe Help Center of Buddhism SE is very resourceful for including a list of resources, which in my experience the only site that make use of this section. Some arguments: Putting content about the subject of the site (in this case, Buddhism) pushes down the content about the site itself (Bu...

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ just,
@Ooker not bad, people just don't think sites should provide information in the help center.
Someone did say it cause the actual help center contents to be pushed down, which is indeed correct and might be a problem.

@Ooker I'm surprised you are still under the impression that score correlates with question quality here given the number of questions you've asked O.o

1:10 PM
@Ooker yeah, I open the help center, and the introduction doesn't really help me in understanding how SE works

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ the idea downvotes are not evil is the hardest thing to grasp about MSE, or meta sites in general.
@Bookends more like "I want to know how the site works, not to read information related to the site topic". For that we should have a "site wiki" somewhere.

true, that's the point. Is X.SE Help Center for understanding more about X, or Stack Exchange?

@Ooker because fundamentally we assume people get the basics of the subject not the platform

1:38 PM
Exactly ^
Yay!!! :D

Nice!
Congratulations

Thanks!
Looking forward to the video:
))) haha thank you, if i decide to do this way, i will shoot a video)) — Daniyar 5 mins ago
lol
daily ping for @M.A.R. so he won't feel,

@ShadowWizard & @JourneymanGeek: saying X.SE Help Center is for understanding about Stack Exchange, not X is what I don't think a newcomer would think, hence my question

@Ooker if you didn't know what the subject was - how would you even know what to ask?

it's not that I don't understand the downvotes are not relevant to the question quality, it's just that I don't know why people find the idea is bad but leaving no explanation (@CodyGray did, but I have implemented them in the question)

1:45 PM
@Ooker I'm commenting less on the votes - and why the premise is wrong ;p

@Ooker Dooker!

If you needed to know what buddism was in detail - that's what the site is for. If you didn't know what it was, you wouldn't need the site.

no, I just answer a previous question. I'm thinking about yours

@Ooker Just putting a comment in the question doesn't automatically make the point made in it invalid.

I couldn't resist the pun

1:46 PM

not clicking that at work
also, I wasn't aware that term had a specific meaning outside being what cartoon apes say

@Magisch no worry almost anything has some unknown slang usage. :D

@Tinkeringbell I just say that I have implemented the comments to my question, so I think it's obsoleted. And anyone who think the idea is bad should at least has another new explanation in their mind

@Magisch a quick look at that UD link and.. I strongly suggest you don't click it at work ;)

@JourneymanGeek it is possibly that someone need to know introductory resource

1:52 PM
@JourneymanGeek well, surely @jad can! It's very brown. :P

@Ooker Just putting a comment in the question doesn't automatically make the point made in it invalid.

Is it the Self Onebox time? ;)

You put in the question, fine. People can still find the point made in it valid, and disagree.

@Ooker which comes back to - if you have no idea what the site is about, why are you there?

1:58 PM
@Tinkeringbell but I give reasons why it may not be valid

@Ooker People can still find the point made in it valid, and disagree.

@JourneymanGeek not really. I know Buddhism, but I don't know good resources, introductory or advanced. The help center may have such resources

@Ooker But resources can go away

@Bookends Ok, putting the faq tag is nice

in fact, we discourage resource posts as questions.
so we're literally adding an extra source of stuff potentially breaking and confusing a new user.

2:02 PM
@Tinkeringbell well it can be, but it's just better if someone leaves a comment explaining why my explanation is bad

IMHO, the introductory page of help center can be modified to let visitors understand more thoroughly about the particular SE site than its Tour, but not detail enough as per help center's article (some links to meta posts might be great on here). In no way I expect it to be a resource to external links.

@Ooker If people feel the comment of Cody is sufficient, they don't need to. There's no use for arguing in circles, like we're doing here...

@JourneymanGeek ok let me think more about your recent answer

@JourneymanGeek what's "IMI"?

Probably a typo

2:09 PM
@Tinkeringbell the word "sufficient" is very important to speak out :D. This solves my query

Probably imo

Maybe imo

probably imu

I'm not sure either

@Tinkeringbell you can't just decide that emulaterally

@Magisch I just did, to avoid an emu-war.

@ShadowWizard Sphinx cat :O

It's a cat...?? lol

@Bookends 'Sphinx'... quite an overrated name if you ask me. At least in Dutch we call them what they are: "Nakedcats" :P

@rene I don't know. Are you cheap?

Have a guess ...

You're going Dutch :P

Hi everyone

Hello
secretely wishes he could be blamed

I was just suspended for 24 hours on network-wide chat. If I understand the situation correctly, a moderator misunderstood my flag to remove the room as a flag to remove a single message (moderator announcement, when room might be unfrozen) and immediately suspended me (what would be totally legitimate in the case I really flagged the message). I only flagged the single message because this is the only known way to flag a room and similar behavior is encouraged on main. I also could not have answered to a chat ping informing me about this misunderstanding, as the room was frozen.

That is indeed amazing @SterlingArcher, but in all seriousness, what are we going to do about Veronica?

She's in mexico, so idk

Figures. Just like her.

@MEEthesetupwizard use the contact form (link in the footer of every site) and have the CM team look at it. There is nothing we can do, unless you want a public scrutinizing by Shog9 right here in this room. That is often a good read for us. Doesn't often help the suspended user, at least not with lifting of thr suspension

@rene Also for chat suspensions?

7:31 PM
yes

okay, thanks I will do this

okay.

that's not a screenshot

@MEEthesetupwizard Be suuuuuuper clear what you're asking for. I think that "Delete request" made it sound like you wanted Art's message to be deleted rather than the room to be deleted.

@ArtOfCode But the room wasn't deleted?
Just asking for curiosity

Correct.
Question: Is a user's profile ID on a child meta always the same as it is on the parent site?

@ArtOfCode Yes. (Prior to 2014 the exception was Stack Overflow, because MSE was MSO, and you know the rest)
Found a counterexample?

cool
@SonictheWizardWerehog No, just need to know if that's an assumption I can make - if it's not, my shiny new thing is going to break
