@Tinkeringbell really?? In Israel too! The train drivers are on a strike on and off for weeks now, they become "sick" (all of them together) for few hours once in a while. They want more money, and they want to abort a plan to sell the train company to private hands. (It's owned by the government for now, which is awesome for them.)

@ShadowWizard Right now, the system is that I pay a certain amount of money each paycheck to a retirement fund, and that fund used that money to pay the current retired people and it also invests part (mainly stock markets, IIRC). Anyways, as people get older and there are more older people than young ones, we get to pay more and more and we might never see anything back :(

The problem here is that with current contributions, most people will need additional money from the system to be able to live while retired.

As income increases, so do living standards and with that cost of living. That and a large contingent of people are living close enough to poverty that it's unjustifiable to ask them to give up more of their paycheck
