Am I imagining it, or do duplicate questions now sometimes say "duplicate" and sometimes say "closed"?

1:04 AM
@M.A.R. ....... UGH.
and... morning, back to work... (´・ω・`)

4 hours later…
6:22 AM
Mornin'. Going to be a grumpy one, I'm afraid.

@Alex Hmm. I only recall seeing [closed]. Maybe it looks different for questions closed as dupes before the recent change?

@Alex always "[duplicate]". This has not changed.
@V2Blast nope. Post a link to a question closed as duplicate which says "[closed]" and I'll see.
The only place where "close" is mentioned for duplicate is now the revisions list, where it says Post Closed as "Duplicate of…"

9:51 AM
@ShadowTheBurningWizard I think you know which flag I am talking about, but I've never seen a flag encompass so much truth in 2 words :D

lol yeah

!!/waffle

@ShadowTheBurningWizard No such command 'waffle'.

10:21 AM
@Sha Would you be please so kind and add this to the duplicate list at this question?

@πάνταῥεῖ done

@ShadowTheBurningWizard THX

While there, please remove your close vote here, it's not a dupe, at least not of the question you linked to. @πάνταῥεῖ :)

@ShadowTheBurningWizard Done

@πάνταῥεῖ THX

:8137586 FYI I already flagged the stale comments for removal

It's about auto complete, underscore there isn't relevant. That was the first question I also found when looking for dupe. :)
And poor OP will go again with same chain of comments. :/
Rice was yummy.

Rob
The Q asks about underscores: meta.stackexchange.com/q/341099/282094 --- The dupe answers about underscores: meta.stackexchange.com/q/112360/282094 --- The FAQ does mention underscores: meta.stackexchange.com/a/43020/282094 --- I hope they aren't asking: 'instead of using a space can I choose a different character' ... Not trying to make more work, trying to find the best dupe (since I'm first, if I was not first a related (but not perfect) dupe is helpful to populate
the list).

@ShadowTheBurningWizard Famous (in Germany at least):

@ShadowTheBurningWizard Well, if I didn't have to keep going outside I'd be dry

Also, I really hope the recent question of yours on Mi Yodea is totally hypothetical.... ?

> Our content therefore, speak of high quality and is created according to highest standards.
that wikipediallc site is wack

As expected
Most sites that spam for living are crap to begin with.

is that a paid service to create a wiki page with marketing-optimized content or something?
I realize it might just be a scam but I don't quite get what services it supposedly tries to offer
the text is very vague

I bet it's a pure scam, i.e. after getting the money from people it will vanish into thin air along with the money.
cleans glasses
Is this Bart here?!
note to self: don't irritate the parrot

Now what did I do?
@Bart Merry Christmas!

@Tinkeringbell you should know
:D

11:46 AM
So many things to pick from though!

Not that one. The other one.
Anyway.... need to go shopping... but it's a rainy day.... :(

So, mom?
Shopping sounds nice, even on a rainy day :)

Guess I'll wait for a quiet period and try my luck. ;)
@Tinkeringbell nah hard to keep it all dry

Just get wet food :P

11:54 AM
Wet food: soup.

12:49 PM
@ShadowTheBurningWizard Yaaaaay

@rene We had a really good soup fondue at X-Mas eve ;-)

@Tinkeringbell isn't wet food the stuff that comes in cans? :D
also, my office smells of raw onions

Sometimes it comes in bags too. It's a thing here, soup from a bag.

@Tinkeringbell Huh

12:54 PM

Done. Went out while it wasn't raining, but as expected it was heavily raining by the time I was finished and heading back. Damage report: wet glasses, wet shoes. Food kept dry and safe. :P
@Tinkeringbell not a soup
It's powder.

No, that's soup. Just heat it up and you can eat it
Though we do have the powders here too :)

It's liquid in the bag?? lol

Yes!
Why else would I make a point about it being in a bag? :P XD

Hard to see in that pic, can't read any details

12:57 PM
@Tinkeringbell You don't need to wet it?

What kind of 'soup in a bag' is this hard to understand? XD

Warm
Next thing: cow/beef/chicken in a bag

A whole cow in a bag?

12:59 PM
Check!

@Tinkeringbell Is it cold soup?

@M.A.R. Depends on where you store the bag :P

I can never get myself to have anything but hot soup

@JourneymanGeek yup
@Tinkeringbell not really a bag

@JourneymanGeek Think outside the box

1:01 PM
@M.A.R. At least you can buy Gaspacho in Tetra-Paks

@ShadowTheBurningWizard ?
The Dutch word for it is litterally 'chicken in a bag'
XD

@Tinkeringbell it's just a plastic wrap
lol

@ShadowTheBurningWizard No, it's a bag. Closed on three sides, open on 1 to put in and take out the chicken!

hmm
I want a red bag

You're a bit demanding XD

1:03 PM
I know!
Next name: Shadow The Demanding Wizard

At least chicken in a clay pot is better IMO.
It seems that at least I am repeating at least a bit too often :-P

@πάνταῥεῖ proper clay pots are <3

@πάνταῥεῖ At least you're not boring :D

@JourneymanGeek The result is usually delicious. But it's long ago I used one.

obviously we don't cook chicken in them, but good for other things :D
@πάνταῥεῖ they're traditional in chinese cooking and traditional medicine

1:10 PM
@JourneymanGeek In German we call that a Römertopf. You have to soak it with water about an hour befor you start cooking with it. I'll check if I can give you a picture.

OH
Terra cotta?

Nothing seperates us like the language. Especially since neither of us are nativelyenglish speaking, and I live in a primarily anglophone chinese culture :D

No enamel.

ya
My mom would love that :D

1:13 PM
Otherwise you couldn't soak water

But I think it would come under "too precious to use"
ya, I get

It was pretty popular in Germany in the 1970 - 1980ies

@πάνταῥεῖ my mother has such a thing. Though she rarely cook in it. :(

@ShadowTheBurningWizard Well, it's a bit tedious to use.

It's for whole chicken, I refer to it as "chicken coffin". :D
@πάνταῥεῖ how so? You just put whole chicken, spices, close, and put in over for several hours.
No?

1:17 PM
@ShadowTheBurningWizard As mentioned you have to soak it with water 1st to get the real good effect.

Anyway.... at first I thought this is trolling, but not sure. Thoughts? (i.e. sock account of someone who well knows who's Monica and just trolling to waste our time)
@πάνταῥεῖ oh

@ShadowTheBurningWizard Looks like trolling, yes.

hmm
The "I’m a 16 year old girl" on other site is also... weird.
But the Math site account appears to be serious and legit, that's what made me wonder.
trap initiated

1:48 PM
@JourneymanGeek Did you think about something like a tandoori oven in 1st place?

@πάνταῥεῖ mumbles something about notherners
:D
@πάνταῥεῖ never really used one, and its hardly something used at home
also, its something they use in the north

@JourneymanGeek "and its hardly something used at home" True.

well if you lived on a farm, or some other place with outdoor space, sure
Personally I prefer a proper oven :D

Merry Christmas @Tinkeringbell!

@Bart Merry X-Mas, nice to see you around.

1:54 PM
o/
Merry xmas

Who is Merry?
:D

Definitely not :D

2:09 PM
The probable better question would be Who is Sara Chipps?πάντα ῥεῖ 52 secs ago

@πάνταῥεῖ sigh
Not entirely sure that's helpful

or more precisely - now that the matter is settled, we should be looking forward, to preventing more messups and getting the community back in shapes
than trying to get the last thrown vegetable in

Be Best. groan "Naive" was a kind and gentle way to describe that.

@KitZ.Fox it would be, yes
and charitable.
Also, I suspect that if not for the fact that none of the current mods are US based, we would have had more of an idea about the background :D

2:15 PM
The last vegetable thrown in the soup always is the one with the least cooking time :P

One does not throw the good vegitables.
or simply walk into mordor.

That reminds me that I brought stew for lunch.

I have the usual
yogurt rice.

It was my first effort at beef bourguignon, and it turned out ok except I think it needs peas and I forgot the roux.

though I might pop over to 7-11 for some snacks

2:18 PM
I baked some rolls to go with it.

@KitZ.Fox ... Do you roux forgetting?

@JourneymanGeek Fun fact: I am watching Lord of the Rings at TV currently.

@JourneymanGeek hahaha
I probably ought to do some work today, to make the day go faster, but all I can think about is seeing my boys tomorrow, finally.

How many of them?

How many boys?

2:20 PM
Work is uncountable, alas. so probably the boys :D

haha

(I got lots of sleep today :D)
There was an eclipse and we apparently had lunch early so I just slept from 10-5 :D

Two.
@JourneymanGeek Nice!

Nice... for me it's three kids, one boy and two girls

2:22 PM
@KitZ.Fox yay for superstision

So far seeing them every day.... aka I come back home to them, not the other way around. ;)
What ages are they, if I may ask? @Kit

I'm in the process of divorcing my husband. This is the first Christmas by myself.
They are nine and eleven

@KitZ.Fox yeah figured that.... I just hope you reached some friendly agreement and you didn't let the dirt sip to the children's life. That's my worst fear when it comes to divorce.
@KitZ.Fox oh, still young, thought they're older for some reason. My oldest is 9.

Eh. We're doing OK with it. It's the same thing it always was. He puts his head in the sand and pretends nothing is happening, so I have to figure everything out.

She started to walk to/from school by herself only this year.

2:25 PM
My littlest started that this past school year too.

@KitZ.Fox wait, you just described me. (head in sand ;))
:P

It's too cold for him now, but in the fall, he did it.
@ShadowTheBurningWizard You might want to consider how much work that puts on the other person.
Especially if you have the gall to complain about it later.

@KitZ.Fox I know, but she's also telling me when she needs help, so guess we're still good. :)

@KitZ.Fox heh, nothing worse than that
(though for me, that's my parents)

Yeah, my husband figured as long as he said "OK, just let me know what you want me to do" that it absolved him of doing any emotional or mental work for the relationship.

2:27 PM
@ShadowTheBurningWizard sometimes folks can ask, and yet its not heard.

That's also true

It took him a week to ask me how I was feeling about being diagnosed with cancer the second time. He was appalled that I had told people before I knew for sure that it was recurrence.

Well, at least he asked... and sorry to hear about your cancer.... that's such a nasty thing. :/

"It'll be fine. It'll be just like last time," he said, apparently completely forgetting how hellacious last time was, and also not understanding that the second time is way worse.

Where it stands now? @Kit
Hope the recent diagnose is optimistic?

2:31 PM
Right. No sense in me getting in a tizzy over it. I just really need to be done with this relationship.
I am on targeted therapy medication and the cancer has not progressed in nine months, so that's good news.

@KitZ.Fox not doubting that, and agree it's sometimes better be cut cleanly than drag it over years.
@KitZ.Fox glad to hear. Be strong!

It's the end after a long, slow decline.
Still complicated and painful, but whatever.

I guess the boys give you lots of power, when the mind knows others depend on you, it gives you inner strength, IMO.

Yes, that's certainly true.

Just let them know so they're also aware of their worth. :)
My daughter can drive me crazy sometimes with her low self esteem. :/

2:35 PM
How old is she?

@ShadowTheBurningWizard happens to folks. But at least you know she's better than that. Build her up :D

Easier said than done....

Nothing worthy is ever easy :/

When she's in the mode, nothing helps.

2:35 PM
(I have issues with that myself. Can't always just rise and walk :/)

Anything we say is dismissed on spot.

@ShadowTheBurningWizard yet, it needs to be said

So far she gets over it after a good night sleep, but still....

What's causing it tho? School/people? Grades?

Oh so she's your eldest?
My eldest does negative self-talk sometimes, when he gets in a mood.

2:37 PM
@Kit my kids are 9 (girl), 7 (in a month, boy) and 2.5 (girl)
@JourneymanGeek I'd say the root cause is being different in school.

She doesn't like what most other kids like.
(TV shows, books, habits, etc)

I relate but I can't really say I'd know how to deal with that

Ditto

and it got better cause my school was a bit of a hotbed of geeks

2:39 PM
So other kids either ignore her, or mock her.... and it cause trouble.
She does have few friends, so it's not all dark, but still... her social skills are not good, to say the least. :/

Maybe ask her what she likes about herself sometimes, and tell her what you like about her

(And both myself and my wife were the same, so really hard to help)

@ShadowTheBurningWizard I've never raised a kid, but if there's one thing I wished my mom had done differently is... please just let her have the friends she wants, and don't force her to make more/others.

@KitZ.Fox exactly... my son is better at school, but at home when he's doing something not good and told not to do it, he instantly goes into defense mode of saying how bad he is, worthless, nobody loves him, etc.

2:43 PM
And it can come from the smallest things, e.g. leaving a card on the floor instead of putting it in place.

@ShadowTheBurningWizard Well, what are some things you like about yourself?

@Tinkeringbell sure, it's a major thing for us. So far we had issue only with one friend she had, luckily she understood by herself how bad the friend was for her.
@KitZ.Fox yeah, that's how my sister handles her. (My sister is 12 years older than me, and really really love my daughter)

That's so sweet.

@KitZ.Fox hehe, no worry these days I don't have low self esteem. :)
@JourneymanGeek lucky for you! In my case my class had lots of geeks, but other classes.... not as much. (We were about 120 students in four classes)
Total crap, with rude ending that justifies red flag IMO

chewing noises

Apparently there was a fire alarm that went off at another site

Ya
apparently falose alarm

Ouch
How close?
Oh... I get false fire alarms about once a week, in average.
(at work)

Other side of the country :D

3:01 PM
lol so how did you hear it??

.... work whatsapp group

Boss asked for a status check
I am holding back the urge to ask "Nothing on fire I hope?"

Ben Popper on December 26, 2019

To help get me into the programming mindset, or maybe to cleverly sabotage my work ethic, a colleague recently introduced me to a game called Seven Billion Humans. You command small squads of workers through If statements, loops, and basic assignments of memory.

One of the most fascinating lessons in the game is that you can write great code to optimize for size or speed, but you can’t necessarily find a solution that simultaneously optimizes for both. Before I started playing, I had assumed the ideal software would approach a sort of zen koan, something that packed the greatest possible  …

@Feeds whaaaaaat

@ShadowTheBurningWizard Its crucially important to know how bad a programmer Ben Popper is

3:41 PM
Ben can't be a name of bad programmer
It just doesn't fit.
:D
sigh... any mod care to reset this awful name?
(would also love to see 999999 years suspension of the troll, but meh...)

@ShadowTheBurningWizard flag it

No flag in user profile :(

The post. :D

oh it's done
Thanks, anon mod!

Hope you like it? Or do you prefer tea?
Your son(s) drink coffee already? We told our kids no coffee before 14, at least.

I read that as risotto
and was confused

lol
Sounds like you're hungry!

I'm eating!
Actual food even

3:52 PM
Rice Baby!

@ShadowTheBurningWizard Sigh there's also this troll on meta.ELL
@SmokeDetector I need coffee

@ShadowTheBurningWizard curd rice

@M.A.R. make your own!

with our family's not quite secret jalepeno pickles

@JourneymanGeek oh, so it doesn't fit babies

3:55 PM
@ShadowTheBurningWizard gotta start em early :D

@ShadowTheBurningWizard You're not helpful
@JourneymanGeek In coffee?

@M.A.R. as always, at your service!

Gee, why are you foreigners so . . . creative in your eating?

Its kind of a deconstruction of a "Marwadi Mirchi"

3:55 PM
And drinking

You should be taught to do things on your own! @M.A
:D

I mean, I could eat the same meal, and not a particularly delicious one, for days and I wouldn't notice

Although sometimes my fuse is short and I crave four things at the same time for a few days

@M.A.R. because we love eating and drinking

3:56 PM
@ShadowTheBurningWizard I can fry eggs

We don't do it just to get rid of hunger or thirst.

Its a varient on that (we don't use cumin) but rather than stuffing it, we slice it and let it marinade in oil and spice mix

We actually... enjoy it! :D

and use a mix of jalepeno (the regular stuff, and the indian ones - which appear to be the early jalepenos)

@M.A.R. that's a sign you're pregnant.

3:57 PM
Well sure I sometimes buy random stuff from a store and mix them together
@ShadowTheBurningWizard Thank you good doctor

So there's sour, salty, and a crunch

Say "hi" to the baby when it comes out.

and a slow heat from the small jalepenos.

@M.A.R. fry, or burn? ;)

3:59 PM
Which one involves a black goo?

depends on the eggs

@JourneymanGeek looks yummy but over my hotness level (spicy)

@ShadowTheBurningWizard the big jalepenos are pretty tame

@M.A.R. that one is from dragon

@JourneymanGeek Alien eggs. Right from planet X-252
