@πάνταῥεῖ huh, nice!
@πάνταῥεῖ in exchange for your wisdom? :D
@Hitodama ?
(long time since I really had no clue what you mean, kudos! ;))

@ShadowThePrincessWizard see the message from the parrot I posted just under that one
Jan 10 at 11:14, by Tinkeringbell
@Derpy Okay, so new thread for you: I saw this (Dutch) news video this morning. A while ago, a big shipping ship lost a few (270) containers of stuff, and they opened and now there's all sorts of stuff washing up on Dutch coasts. One of the things is MLP figurines. A real-life pony farm now has opened up what apparently is a 'My Little Pony Rescue Center' where people can turn in the ponies, they are cleaned up, and then people can 'adopt' them again :)

@ShadowThePrincessWizard Could be an approach :D

ohh I often fail to read further
@Hitodama rofl... yeah, good reference! :P
Also, blame @πάνταῥεῖ for posting in the middle of your messages..... ;)

@ShadowThePrincessWizard would have been better if those were sea ponies figurines

@Hitodama or mermares

1:13 PM
@ShadowThePrincessWizard while I appreciate the joke (and you should be really worried that you just made that)... sea ponies are actually a real "race" in the show.

Yup
No worry I'm not becoming a pony any time soon.
Though it's time for name change again.
Default is back to the ordinary name, but still thinking about something else.
I envy a bit people like @rene, @Journeyman, and more, who never change their name... less headaches. ;)

@ShadowThePrincessWizard I've changed my name once

I can't keep up with this single personality

Removed the "The" from "The Journeyman Geek" for simpler pinging

@Aibobot you you, or you as in your master? ;)

1:19 PM
JG is the bot ...
we all know that

@ShadowThePrincessWizard Just keep the Shadow, so we can @shadow and it's fine ;)

aibobot is clearly the bot :D

oh... here?
Sep 6 '18 at 6:36, by Bartbot
woof
Doesn't count you're a bot
:D

Shaggy The Hairy Wizard
And the ones above that ;)

@Aibobot no way! So that leaves me with @rene, the stable flower..... :D

1:22 PM
stable boring

@Tinkeringbell not sure, but promise it'll start with Sha
I was once Sha Wiz Dow Ard
lol
So, @Sha will always work.

@ShadowThePrincessWizard Well meremares might apply before they've been cleaned ;-)

@rene nah you're full with surprises

Sep 19 at 7:56, by Mithrandir
Shahahahaha The Insane Wizard

@Mithical can't, I'm not hairy. I can't lie....
:P
@Mithical that's possible! :D
Thought about Shadow The Winter Wizard, but can't think of proper avatar to go with it...

1:25 PM
@ShadowThePrincessWizard Santa Claus? :P

Winter fits in several aspects.

use the winter tree from Frank?

@ShadowThePrincessWizard Kinda Sant.... No forget about that :P

@Tinkeringbell not Christmas Wizard... ;)

Shattered the Broken Wiza

@ShadowThePrincessWizard Hey, apparently Santa Claus isn't Christmas anyways, and we should use 'winter feast' instead to be more religion-neutral! :P

Well, for me Santa is Christmas... ;)

@Tinkeringbell Santa Clause is mainly an adevertising meme of Coca Cola

@πάνταῥεῖ I know :)

1:27 PM
2020: Go all neutral

Climate neutral wouldn't be so bad.

@rene will be nuked by dog and parrot

JAD
@ShadowThePrincessWizard neutralised*

Rob
@ShadowThePrincessWizard The are a lot of choices for the search term "frost wizard", here's one example:

1:29 PM
Frost and winter are.... bit different. But let's see...
That's a movie, lol

Just pick a picture of Elsa and be done with it

@nicael already took it
He would blame for stealing his identity....

@Rob How's that not just a badass santa claus?

@Rob Are Russian movie posters still unrelated to the actual movie?

lol it's a thing? :D

1:31 PM
Look-up a couple of Star Wars posters in Russian and you'll find out.

They remove certain people?

Well in Israel the extreme orthodox groups remove women from posters.
(e.g. ads on buses)

^seriously annoying

The above picture is for IV, a New Hope, IIRC.

1:34 PM
@Rob If that was an actual movie, I'd watch that

Well isn't it Yoda? It's related to the movie...

I love wierd non english movies

@ShadowThePrincessWizard Compared to the US poster:
The Russian doesn't exactly fit the style.

Still didn't read about it, why they do it? Act of rebellion?

No, they do crap like that with a lot of movies.

1:35 PM
Not allowed by law to put the actual actors since USA was enemy?
@Mast oh

JAD
@Mast Is that the original posted? I thought it was only called "Star Wars" on release?
poster*

Rob
How is an image of a real person worse than what you have now, which is described as: "Saved from daphnemaia.com
Elf Wizard Art Beautiful sorceress Mage Female Dark Fantasy Robe".

@Mast @ShadowThePrincessWizard the story I heard was the artists were not familiar with the movie

@Rob head spins
@JourneymanGeek so they just made it based on the words alone?
I would expect drawing of, well, two stars in a battle.

@ShadowThePrincessWizard yes, and vague discriptions
Like
THE DEATH DISCOBALL!

JAD
@ShadowThePrincessWizard solar ray catfight

Rob
Were you using the Random Reply Generator again, or just lack of coffee?

@Rob Yes

Reminds me of my Random Image Generator

@JourneymanGeek I need that to be a weapon in Borderlands 3.

1:40 PM
Too bad it can't be used here... no failsafe mechanism there. :/

@Gimby lol

@JourneymanGeek Basically.

Q: Who are these characters on this unofficial New Hope poster?

ValorumThis 1990 Russian(?) version of the poster for Star Wars: A New Hope is somewhat different from Western versions. Assuming Darth Vader is the one in the middle, who are the characters along the left and right hand side of the frame?

Or it could be " hey poster guy, draw a poster with a bunch of aliens and a guy made of metal, they fight with energy swords of different colors" or then again, movie posters could be highly interpretive in that area, which would be kind of cool in it's way. I just feel like the person who made this may have heard of the characters but never actually saw them. Or maybe never heard of them either is possible too. It's just so out there. I think the message is clear: this movie is going to be interesting. Although 4 could be a Star Destroyer with an evil all seeing imperial eye. — Integration Feb 22 '17 at 0:34
> In 1990, Star Wars was finally released in Russia. At that time, local artists produced posters for foreign movies without any knowledge of the films, which led to some unique designs. This rare poster describes the movie as a “galactic Western” and features an imaginary image by Yury Bokser dominated by an unusual depiction of what could be Jabba the Hut and the Death Star with stars shooting out from the centre.

2:40 PM
@JourneymanGeek why'd you delete my answer?

@WELZ The effort to moderate that would probably trump the value of having it around ;)

Presumably because given the content it was very very likely to cause an issue and there's no need to keep stuff around that is going to cause a problem.
That... and the comments really weren't headed anywhere constructive, which was an indication that the post itself wasn't exactly going to fare better.

@Tinkeringbell I like what you did there :D

I can't speak exactly for what JMG was thinking, but I'd have done the same thing.

> 🤔

2:46 PM
@WELZ I did too :P
Perhaps you can find another blonde dude to glorify in a knitting? Preferably an attractive one? :D

It's just a knitted caricature of someone, and it got deleted because orange man bad. Accurate?

It was deleted, AFAICT, because extremely likely to cause a problem = bad.

@WELZ Nah, it got deleted because 'comments bad, man!'.
Does anyone remember annoying orange?

In any case... I still stand by this:

The Tavern is not the place to contest answer deletions. If you have an issue with an on-site moderation action, please raise a flag.

@WELZ It's not specifically about mr. Orange though, just politics in general is a subject best avoided.

2:52 PM
I have to run, I'll do a less obscene knit later then.

🤣 exactly what I said

Not really very constructive. I don't mind answering questions but if you're going to do that kind of stuff as a response... You're neither helping yourself (people will feel less inclined to answer) or others.

yo @WELZ do you really want to be the person to incite another meta trash fire in this year

@Magisch what?

2:57 PM
you know what I meant
that answer, this discussion. You didn't have to. You know exactly how people here and on meta will react, you've been here for quite a while
why?

I wish I had time to discuss, I have to work though, ping me later and I'll be happy to explain.

...as they say here: Chalas.

uhm. Hi!
I agree with the folks who commented, and the folks ^ up there ;p

Ed note: This is a part of series where an author plays both sides of an issue, one of which is obviously terrible. Can you guess which is which?

Our industry needs to own up to something we’ve all known for a long time: whiteboard coding interviews suck. At best, they’re ineffective at measuring a candidate’s capacity and aptitude for the real day-to-day work of a developer, and at worst they’re an inhumane ritual that amounts to little more than fraternity hazing.

I have never, in over 20 years as a professional developer, had a single project that required me to stand at a whiteboard and impl …

@Feeds Too easy. The second one is true, of course ;)

anyone here by chance used Angular Elements?

I drink pointy water sometimes, does that count?

tempted to see if the ignore user button still works

I'm impressed it's not me you're about to ignore. :P
BTW, I don't want to snitch or something, but @Mithical used something of yours, @Hito ;)

Wait... @rene what the dog did? Or done? Or does?
:D

3:48 PM
Do you need a reason to slap someone with a fish?

no

Depends what fish
If wet, reason is needed.

@ShadowThePrincessWizard don't have much time to get angry now, I am already quite busy with getting crazier thanks to this mess I am working on.
Either Angular Element is playing a curve ball somewhere, or I don't know.

@Hitodama Angular?
I have to work with Angular too for one of the projects, luckily we have a dedicated freelancer who's responsible for it though, so when I get stuck I throw it back at him. :D

@ShadowThePrincessWizard it is a very basic angular poc.

3:51 PM
I didn't see any special stuff yet, to be honest.

so what is the curve ball? It might not have anything to do with Elements specifically.

So @Hitodama you mean things like this?
<app-select [(selected)]="gender" name="gender" [options]="genderOptions"></app-select>
That's an element, defined in Angular...
As one can guess, it renders to a selection between different genders. ;)
If so then yes, I work with these. But don't count on me, see above for the reason.

@user400654 hey :)

"Make Stack Overflow work for everyone." That's ambitious.

So we can hire Stack Overflow to work for me?

That part is called Jobs, iirc

it's an impossibly broad task, which of course gives leeway to work on the parts of it they deem most likely to make $$ important

@ShadowThePrincessWizard yep, tried to create an angular web part with the PNP spfx generator....
and apparently the bindings are "borked£
don't know why
works perfectly fine on other browser
edge.... as usual is [redacted]

@Glorfindel In my view, the tag is for things where the system's intended operationalization doesn't work right unintentionally. The application of that tag seemed inappropriate. (cc @Shadow @rene)
When I made the first tag edit, I failed to notice it was in the actual system's operationalization, and thought it was just an opinion expressed by SE in some forum, and for that reason I tagged it as a .
I realize that that was incorrect, but the first thing still applies, so I've retagged it as a . In other words, a request to change the design of the system.
Also, I've seen and questions tagged with status tags, so I didn't think too much into that at the time, but I now realize that the tag is incorrect.

Arguably it is everything (3 of the 4), except a "bug". IE: He wants a discussion about a feature-request, and support to either make the change or explain why not; everything, but.

Q: No way to know that a question is protected in the Android app

Rashid M BeyI'm trying to answer a question via the Android app, but I can't seem to find an answer button or instructions / reasons for why there isn't one. I see the question and its existing answers, but simply no "Add Answer" button anywhere, and no banner/message explaining why. I later realized the q...

Hmmm. that's the app.

Hmm, true.

I know that I've seen this on MSE because that's why I know it's a problem... Grrrr.

meh

7:58 PM
I almost never use the mobile skin so I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

i'm not getting any results on mse

Well, at least I'm not alone. :P

8:21 PM
I just realized how big of a change +10 for question upvotes is.
There used to be privileges at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 10 upvotes.
Now a single upvote is worth the entire bottom half of that image of privileges.

8:32 PM
add the emojis, make them usable at 1, and raise upvotes to 125

8:51 PM
@Catija We talked about it in the mod room. Can't remember a question though...

@bjb568 That's always been the case for answers

9:10 PM
As it should be, answers are more important.

@Tinkeringbell Hmmm. OK.
Well, it's on a list to get fixed, regardless. :D

The Android app will receive an update?

No. Doesn't have anything to do with the apps.

So what does it have to do with?

"mobile view".

9:24 PM
Yeah, please keep developing that. It's very nice to have in environments with slow connections.
I was in India a couple weeks ago, and if you used more than 1.4 GB per day, you'd quite literally be slowed down to dial-up speeds.

Considering the relevance to the context, is that a modem?

@M.A.R. No, that's India

Wow, smaller than I thought.
It's like four inches long only

@M.A.R. No that would be a mooodem
2

@Rubiksmoose Everything is bigger with older technologies
They say transistors used to be as big as a room.
Or was that calculators?
And why is it always a room

9:36 PM
because a room isn't a defined unit of measurement, and therefore is always right

Well India fit in a few inches, I think we can manage

lol

@SonictheReinstateMonica-hog I'd rather a new user that posts helpful answers gain privileges faster than a new user that posts popular questions.

How many popular questions are popular due to the quality of the question?
well, none of them. they're popular because it got shared and people found them interesting

Especially given how easy it is to farm rep off asking unhelpful, but easy questions, then collecting upvotes from the couple of answerers who FGITW before it's either closed or forgotten, plus accept bonus.

but they're not designing the system for the edge cases

@user400654 Sounds like a reason to make questions upvotes worth even less than 5! : p

the avg question isn't going to go viral and get a bunch of "interesting" upvotes
well, that's what the rep cap is for
i wonder what the avg rep i got per upvote is on my top rated answer
it rep capped me for nearly a week
12 days in a row of rep cap
lol
anyway, my point is more that the most "useful" questions are often questions that are rather poorly researched, if we take score as a good measure of usefulness.
they're often not very specific, not tied to a particular piece of code, more general questions that are often closed/downvoted. But when they receive a great answer, they flourish.
the way the reputation graph presents my reputation for those two weeks are weird, how i can hit the rep cap, then through some kind of magic end the day under the cap, then on other days push above it due to regaining rep on those days that i lost downvoting answers.
