We have an RO room for the tavern. Before this exploded, it's always been pretty quiet. Since this happened, it's been busy with people coordinating responses and making sure someone's around to cover this room. Everyone in there is a volunteer. They're not even all moderators. It's just people attempting to keep the peace and ensure the discussion here respects everybody.
We don't really do rules lawyering here. Just try to abide the spirit of the rules and err on the side of caution. Right now there's a lot of turmoil (a lot!) and tempers run hot. We need this room to be free of line crossing attacks at all times
We're not aching to ban everyone. If you dwell here a lot you'll notice we're a lot more lenient then other chat rooms on SE. We just want civil discourse
@AndrasDeak Ok, but you know, my personality unavoidably will lead to boot me from this room. Even if I work hardly to remain here, earlier or later you will find a reason to boot me. It is only matter of time, and I know it so well as you.
There is every opportunity to have a constructive discussion about current events in here without running afoul of the rules. There have been thousands of perfectly OK messages of people who are all kinds of annoyed or hurt in here.
Like I said, we're not aching to ban anyone. We expect an effort and some consideration, as is at least implicitly expected in any social conversation. We also have to abide the house rules of SE, as this chat is on their server, and those include the code of conduct, which forbids personal attacks for one.
@Rubiksmoose ah, of course, how could I forget? They're both offshoots of the logical vein, I seem to remember.

@peterh I'm having trouble understanding the "top3 dirtiest hostility" sentence, but are you saying you had a 30-minute chat ban for personally attacking a staff member or something else? I honestly don't have the context for what happened.
@AndrasDeak I can't remember who did it anymore, but someone (xkcd? Mythbusters?) did an awesome explanation of why smacking the top of a half-full beer bottle breaks the bottom off
