8:06 PM
Thanks for your feedback.

@rene error, Channels

Martijn confirmed that it is a bug for moderators as well

8:26 PM
@rene oops, I'm in a couple of Teams :P

It is a strange bug. I can't imagine why the accountid being null affects SOfT users.

Essentially, there's a bit of logic that tries to determine which channels the account is part of...
...AccountId being a nullable type...

Well, maybe there are some outdated logics in place. or that ^

...and it doesn't check to see if AccountId is null
AccountId being NULL is not normal, BTW - even unregistered users are supposed to have a stub account. But, it can happen... And the page isn't supposed to blow up when it does. Nick is fixing.

Yeah, I do know accountid should not be null. Most of those seem registrations that went south before completion or so.

8:35 PM
(Irony: for devs, there's a tool to fix some causes of this issue... Which is linked to automatically from the profile page when it occurs. Of course, if the profile page won't load...)

Only 251 of such cases on SO ...
@Shog9 you could unsubscribe yourself from all teams ...

Probably very old profiles in most cases?
Like... Prior to 2011?

No, also from last year

huh
well, extra good it's getting fixed then

most have that default user guid

8:37 PM
That's a lot of duplicate display names

oh wow, there's someone who was just on the site a couple weeks ago

I recall someone shared the code once where that guid was set
It is used as a marker or so while the account is being created
I guess it didn't handle success correctly ...

yep, looks like merge went awry
well... Once the profile doesn't crash, at least some of these can be fixed.

Is that fixed by creating the account and then update the accountid? Or are there accounts without users as well?
So you have to find the account that should belong to the user?

9:02 PM
@rene depends. There might not even be an account. See my answer
In the case of the most recent user in your list (E V), there is an account, and two users - one attached to the account (but with no name) and the other attached to nothing (but with a name)
so I can just merge those and it's good
maybe
done
of course, I lost the name in the process :-P

Ha!

patched up

Thanks, also to Nick for the quick fix

may never matter, but if that user logs in now everything should be copacetic
I'll pass it along
Unfortunately, poor Vivian has no credentials that match any other accounts
That user is probably unsalvageable

9:12 PM
They can't login you mean into that SO user account?

Q: Announcing Our Amazing 2018 Stuff-A-Way!

Tim PostDid you receive any gifts that you'd appreciate a lot more if they were actually something that you could use, or even wanted? Do you still have some from the last few years? Don't feel bad, we've got you. Curious? Read on. If you're reading this, there's a good chance that you've got, well, stu...

I wonder if the downvote is for the lack of research

facepalm That would make my day, and possibly my year, if that was the case.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ not useful ....

I did help charities often, if I manage to get cleared for going out actually
@rene Must be a dupe of handling a null exception
But I dunno, I'm not the kind of person to write about it anywhere. Except on the Tavern

It is tagged discussion so if you find a good duplicate candidate I might dupe-hammer it ;)

9:16 PM
Maybe I should. You never know if you're estimating something correctly unless you write it down
@rene We have a dupe finder guy on Chem that I swear would find an older duplicate for postID = 1

lol
You can't beat gnat for sure ...

Like "haha I'm an awesome person and I definitely donated 100 bucks this months, except maybe I did and maybe I didn't"
@rene Bah, not everything is a dupe of programmers.SE history meta post
Maybe
It requires hard evidence
Funny thing is we tend to donate money only and throw away stuff
I think it's an Iranian thing, maybe?
Some aspects of me gotta be normal. Ish

Clothes go in clothes collection bin, stuff that's not broken goes on a 'giveawaycorner' on Facebook. Yarn goes to a local salvation army where they use it for meet ups for lonely people

A: Announcing Our Amazing 2018 Stuff-A-Way!

ArtOfCodeChristmas this year was the year of the new laptops - my parents', my sister's, and my laptop were all something like 7 years old, so we replaced the lot. Over the past week or so, I've erased each one and refreshed Windows so they work reasonably smoothly again, and gave them to a friend of our...

FFS, should send them to Iran

porque?

9:22 PM
We are so laptopless in education

it's not a give-every-kid-a-laptop thing, it's more like try to get at least one laptop in each whole school

90% of the schools have 1 old TV-set type computer that runs on Windows 95 and 10% have more than 1 old TV-set type computer that runs on Windows 95
Scratch that, most of them don't even have that computer
Opening Office 2007 files is usually an Adventure Time episode in itself
Did all of the answerers receive some swag at some point, I wonder
I also wonder if maybe I should go crusader style and only upvote newish posts so the competition is fair
Or does everyone receive a swag? <Oprah Winfrey meme>

This coincidences well with my planning on taking some cash over to my local charity that gives food to people such as Holocaust survivors here in town who need help. I've been saving up to give them something.

Gandalf is expected to do no less.
Should also entertain them with fireworks
Nonhazardous ones
meta.stackexchange.com/questions/321396/… — Ouch, people going full meta.SO on this one

Less dangerous to just drop off a few hundred shekels...

9:35 PM
It's been some time since the last -10 living post that wasn't a rant or blatantly OT
@Mithrandir with explosive FUN surprises inside
What's a shekel gotta do in times of a zombie apocalypse?

Hey, Mithrandir.

Yanno, it inspired me too. I've got an appointment on Saturday, and it's been more than 60 days so my nephro doc will probably clear me for going outside and breathing some fresh pollution instead of stale air. I'd donate some to the closest charity box I find
Hey, Mithrandir.
Meaning a considerable amount of money, not just a couple of extra bucks

10:03 PM
@Tinkeringbell Not an outgoing person?

Hey, Tinkeringbell

@Alex I was really, really, really shy at 18.

Well I guess things have changed since then.

They have. :)
A bit. I still dislike phone calls, but working retail and just doing random stuff helped al ot :)
@TheOneWhoMade Hi!

I'm really really really not an outgoing person.

10:05 PM
I think that time when I went there, to become a volunteer... that sort of was the first time I 'just did stuff'.
Despite being nervous about it.

@Tinkeringbell Good for you :P

@Mithrandir That was... almost 9 years ago... Darn, time flies.

I was... 7!

@Tink the giveaway contest says only one answer per user this time.

@Mithrandir Actually, I kinda had to at that time... Living on my own finally forced me to grow up :P
@ShadowWizard Yes, so? I only have 1 :P

10:07 PM
Also, can we win by sharing past donations we made? Makes more sense if we need to make new donation. No?

I went to visit a couple of Holocaust survivors earlier today for one of their birthdays (something I do often with other kids my age). I... think I kept my word count under 20...

@Tinkeringbell two. Unless you deleted one? Reloading

@ShadowWizard I edited the top one ;)
Not posted it. I seriously hope donating that 'w' doesn't count!
@ShadowWizard People asked, but no replies yet so... If there's a comment saying that, I can always delete my answer ;)

@Tinkeringbell oh... Dang still not used to responsive design on mobile, lol
The editor appear above asker
I have an amazing story from.... 15 years ago
Is it eligible? @TimPost
@Mithrandir that is great and totally fitting. Do share as answer there if you didn't already... :)

I should, yeah.

10:19 PM
@Tinkeringbell @ShadowWizard heh. funny thing is I don't remember half the time I did stuff like that ._.

Oh, some of these are getting routine. I can't remember the dates :P

But I grew up putting good but too small/big clothes in the clothes collection bin of the salvation army, there's this yearly thing in the supermarket where you get a grocery list when you enter and you buy a few items and they go to poor countries, and we've never thrown away anything that was still good, we either gave it away to others or re-sold it second hand ourselves.
Now, the crochet toys and yarn donations are such a routine thing too... Sometimes with a few new balls added as well ;)

A: Announcing Our Amazing 2018 Stuff-A-Way!

MithrandirI'm part of a team, made up of teenagers aged 15-17, who volunteer to be a part of this team, and then we go and do... stuff. What we do various, but there's one thing that we do regularly. Here in our town, there are a lot of old Holocaust survivors who don't have a lot of family or anyone aro...

*varies not various

Apparently all the chattiest people here think that they're recluses in real life...

I don't think, I know...

@Alex I no longer am (okay, still a bit. I only do social stuff when I feel like it and I value my downtime a lot, still) :P

It's just interesting how real world personalities and internet personalities don't necessarily match up.

10:47 PM
@Tinkeringbell Nice.

I mean, some of it is probably that I'm self-conscious about tripping up on my accent, and I don't speak especially clearly even in English. So... that probably contributes to me keeping my mouth shut a lot of the time.

@Alex I hide in corners at parties.

@Mithrandir Accent in Hebrew?

@Catija I guess that's better than not going at all...
@Mithrandir If it's any consolation, you write very clearly.

10:51 PM
Thanks. This is why I prefer to stick with text :P
Also, I always manage to mangle pronunciation. Not possible through text ;)

@Alex Oh, well... that's only if I go. We often don't, though.

@Mithrandir I find that people who read a lot tend to mispronounce words sometimes.
Probably because they use words that are only used in writing.

@Derpy your flag might be pending a while. Simply cause of sheer volume.

So they haven't ever heard them pronounced.

I mispronounced "platelets" the other day.

10:54 PM
@Alex If the words are only used in writing, how do you know they're mispronounced?!?

my favourite word to do that with is "misled"

@Catija Well I happen to be a genius, so I know. Others don't.

'badragegager'. But that only works for those who know Dutch.

@ArtOfCode What are you doing with my sled?

@ArtOfCode I actually mispronounced that in my mind for years.

10:55 PM
:/ being a genius doesn't necessarily mean you can pronounce every word perfectly.

@Mithrandir plat-lets not plate-lets?

@JourneymanGeek pla-TEL-ets

@Catija True. I'm not really a genius. And I've done my fair share of mispronunciations for the same reason.

They're little plates! 🤣

I think this is my second favourite chair ever,'
