1:17 AM
Somehow morning

Yes it is (here at least)
\o

1:55 AM
Morning

@JourneymanGeek Only three hours of sleep?

2:12 AM
Insomnia streaks

2:22 AM
@πάνταῥεῖ naw, just werk

Thought so, I know you're working in changing shifts.

2:34 AM
trying to decide if I want to catch a nap before lunch or not
but I feel oddly awake
still

!!/cowbell Journeyman Geek

@Somewhat No such command 'cowbell'.

@SmokeDetector needs more cowbell ;)

!!/tea journey

@πάνταῥεῖ brews a cup of passionfruit tea for @journey

2:39 AM
I have cowbell coffee ;)

1 hour later…
4:09 AM
I got ninja "Deputy" badge from Smokey's autoflag ._.

4:57 AM
Ah handy

Morning

2 hours later…
7:21 AM
@Shadow Happy Yom Kippur!

7:37 AM
@πάνταῥεῖ in case you're here, I don't think your comment is appropriate in giving a direct link to the Facebook search...

7:54 AM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog ahaha, that's a bit of an odd greeting for the day (which was yesterday, BTW), but I'm sure it's appreciated :P

@Mithrandir Are you hydrated again? :)

hopefully

Good :)
Any other news? :P

well, I've shared this other places, might as well put it here too drive.google.com/file/d/1WdivXW0oiOE_dG5FgIcltoO-jnEJFK7R/view

@Mithrandir I'm blaming the work laptop for the certificate error ;) Remind me to try and open it tonight when I'm home :P

7:58 AM
"drive.google.com is not secure" does seem a bit odd

> NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID
Sorry.
Something about IWSS not being installed

IWSS?

> 'Trend Micro InterScan Web Security Suite (IWSS)'
The rest of the error is in Dutch :P

*shrugs* no idea what that is:P

Nope, never seen that one before. Hence me blaming the work laptop ;)
I just got another phishing test e-mail. I'm of a mind to go and nag IT about it's frequency.
Twice a month is too obvious (so are the e-mails, as they're always about the same 'confirm your account details or we'll delete your account in three days')

8:04 AM
morning.
@JourneymanGeek Probably found the "feature" with the quality filter.

DO NOT EVER DARE manually editing a code snippet outside the editor.

@Derpy Isn't everything where you can edit code technically an editor?

The code snippet is a beast though

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog thanks... but 1) It's already over and 2) It's a special holiday where people should think about their sins towards other people and redeem them by being honestly sorry and fasting... aka it's the single day/holiday where we shouldn't be happy. All good, since you had no idea to know that, so telling you now. :)

8:08 AM
@Tinkeringbell on SE there is the message editor and the HTML/JavaScript/CSS editor

@Mithrandir just realized that Google uses YouTube interface for video player... I thought this is a YouTube video, but apparently MP4
oh, and nice trick :)

@Tinkeringbell you can insert a runnable code snipped inside a post - think stackblitz/codepen/plunker etc but integrated directly inside the message
but it seems that manually editing the snippet outside the dedicated editor is a little buggy

@Mithrandir nice.. so that's what you did yesterday? ;)

and can trigger false detection of "incorrectly formatted" code.

8:10 AM
@Derpy Ah... there's not much code formatting on IPS, luckily ;)

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard My building happens to be near a small synagogue and I only saw the banner last evening. I didn't get around to posting a message in chat much later, and didn't realize it'd already be late for you due to time zones. Also, sorry for not realizing the significance of that holiday.

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard What would be a better thing then, solemn? miserable? :P
Is there a greeting for that day?

I guess my answer here is incorrect...

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog all good, thanks!

8:27 AM
I guess JNat is lurking here

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog he always lurks
@Tinkeringbell yup... it can be "Tzom Kal" which means "Easy Fasting", or "Gmar Hatima Tova":
3
Q: Gmar Chasima Tova - What does it mean?

Gershon GoldWhen we wish one another during the Aseres Yemei Teshuva "Gmar Chasima Tova" what does it mean? Does it not depend on what is written in the document? What difference does it make if the seal is good if the document is no good?

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard "wishing them that the fate that is sealed for them is a good one."... that's a nice thing to wish people :)

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard nah, it's got the date in the title

@Tinkeringbell yes, it is! :D

@Somewhat Well, I was considering making a YT channel

8:34 AM
@Mithrandir oh. But, is this you?

yes

@Mithrandir is this allowed by רבנים? I'd imagine they might forbid it as many people might watch the videos you upload during Shabbat, thus causing mass "hilul Shabbat" of a sort. No?
Or aren't you that religious? :)

As long as I'm not actively causing Jewish people to be online when they otherwise wouldn't be it's fine.
I'm Modern Orthodox, not crazy :P

@Mithrandir Waaait. So there's actually people not having a youtube channel because of the off chance that someone may watch their video during Shabbat?

*shrugs* probably
My biggest worry about creating a YouTube channel is actually that I'm not sure I'm old enough to do that.
You have to be old enough to make a legal contract in your country. Not sure if I can do that here...

8:43 AM
@Mithrandir dunno... sometimes I read about crazy "halachot" so can't know. :)

Such as?

@Tinkeringbell that still makes some sense. Try a "rule" that forbids Jewish people from tearing toilet paper during Shabbat. They have to prepare the paper in advance. Again, not all follow this of course, but I did have few who did during army, which was funny to be honest, as a side looker. :)
(And I do respect it! Just... well...)

(If you need it and you don't have any torn, you tear it on the non-perforated part.)

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard ... I never realized how much work a Shabbat could be. I mean, we got taught a little in school about preparing food in advance and stuff... but not about the toilet patper or youtube ;)

@Mithrandir huh? Details please! Never heard of this. :D

8:47 AM
@Mithrandir ^ That

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard It's so that you don't do it the way you normally would, on a weekday.

@Tinkeringbell sure, me neither, if it wasn't for those few army mates, I'd never have heard of it either. And I'm Jewish in Israel....
We do have a gap between religious and non religious people which isn't good.

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard ? A gap as in... people don't understand each other?

Army is the best place to "mingle".
@Tinkeringbell more like don't know about each other.

@Tinkeringbell As in, they don't interact too much

8:49 AM
That does sound like a problem

@Mithrandir yes, that's correct as well.

Although you don't necessarily need to interact to learn about and understand, but then you should have religion classes in school or something

@Mithrandir huh, good to know. Did it ever happen to you? (that you needed to tear it on the non-perforated part :))

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard probably

@Tinkeringbell these days children get much more classes about bible and religion, due to having a religious Minister of Education, but still... it's probably not enough to make real difference.

8:52 AM
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Hmmm. That's probably not what I meant with 'religion classes' :P We had a course in high school called 'religion' and we got taught the principles of all Abrahamic religions, but also about Buddhism, Hinduism, and atheism
So you'd understand it if someone said 'You don't tear toilet paper on Shabbat' because you know some Jewish people probably see that as work and not rest
But you'd also learn the differences between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism, and how that difference came to be

@Tinkeringbell oh... well, we don't really have those.

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard They foster a kind of understanding without needing interaction per se.
I've never met a Modern Orthodox Jew in real life ;) Yet because I was taught the principles, to an extent, I can understand.

@Tinkeringbell agree, better than nothing.... feel free to send a plea to our government, maybe they'll listen to someone from the outside! :D

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Ehhh... I'm not that influential ;)

@Tinkeringbell who knows.... :)

8:57 AM
They probably wouldn't understand :P

Remind them you're a mod on SE network! :D

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard There has been a lot of pushback against those classes even in The Netherlands... mainly a 'what do we include, what not, and why are you exposing my superreligious saintly child to those kinds of heresies!'
Or 'why does my child have to learn about religion if we're sure those are bogus'

@Tinkeringbell oh, those will be for sure here if such classes are added, yeah.
ARIMA meta.stackexchange.com/questions/315676/… @Bart @rene @JourneymanGeek

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I think we should keep them, one way or another. People learn so little about each other already :/
Philosophy is 'optional' nowadays. So no-one really is stimulated to learn how to think

True, and they learn bad/false things via the social networks.

9:01 AM
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Ohhh.. those nice social networks ;)

quick question for the room.

The room? Or the people in it?

@Tinkeringbell please, leave hairsplitting to the owl :P

@Derpy Oh. Sorry! I was unaware the position of hairsplitter was already taken in this room :(

9:03 AM
I wonder if Geek is awake, looks like he's after night shift... hmm...

@Tinkeringbell no one can beat @john

@Somewhat If you ping him hard enough, he's likely to wake up ;)

... or more cowbells 😶

@Somewhat Ehh... I need to catch up on those ;) I skipped over the gibberish yesterday when catching up

Oct 19 '16 at 13:29, by Derpy
As Abdul Alhazred recorded in his writing, Jan is now just a puppet in the claws of The Owl, who is one of the many physical manifestations of the Great Unspeakable One, Gram'mnarh Nazgoth

9:06 AM
@Derpy voting to close as off topic, no question
Well, not quick. ^^

@Tinkeringbell might start from the cow-bell on the star wall

@Somewhat I know ;)

... I just realized it's a pop cult >_<

yeah, right. Anyway, we are currently evaluating various frameworks to use for building the mobile version of a web app that was developed using angular 2+.
Among the various options there were proposal for NativeScripts, Cordova, Ionic, React Native and such...
anyone want to suggest some more (or maybe tell us to stay away from some)?

Does your framework have to do anything in particular? E.g. be able to everything that's also possible in angular?

9:12 AM
well, ideally should be able to do push notifications when the app is "closed", support full screen, access gps and photo gallery.
so, apparently, pretty basic.
The point is that we don't have yet much experience in mobile development - our previous experience were more in the PWA field.
So, one of the choice point would be how easy the new framework would be to learn.
For example, some pointed out that using NativeScripts would at least mean that we can partially reuse our Typescript knowledge.
(I can't really say how much of the above is actually true...)

@Derpy I'm not an expert (never developed anything mobile)... but also look at how easy it is to do the things you want to do within the framework you're going with.
A framework may be easy to learn, but not support e.g. push notifications in an easy way...
I always find it easier to learn a new easy way to do something in a new language
then to learn an easy language that requires doing things in a difficult way

yep, that's something we will have to do.

On that note... here's a great example of an easy language doing things in a difficult way:
I have a set of two objects
I want to assign both objects to a local variable
I have to loop over the set, do something like
index = 1

To be fair, I also wanted to ask in order to see if someone was going to suggest to AVOID some framework.

loop over the set, if index = 1, assign to variable v1, add 1 to index to make index = 2
then enter another loop, where index won't be 1, so I can assign the second object in that set to v2 :/

@Derpy Have you tried Software Recommendations already?

@Somewhat was asleep :p

@JourneymanGeek take your time ;p because I'll let you know that there's a recent meta SU post waiting for mods (and non-mods) response

Ah
Will see when more awake
Cause lol. I see an ot question and plagurism

great way to open a "day"...

9:34 AM
Oh I'm suprised it took so long

@Tinkeringbell I don't think Software Recommendations would fit very well... First, I think it it too open and to technical for a question
Second, I am specifically looking for opinion based comments - which is something SE questions usually don't like

Ah okay... Yeah, in hindsight 'best framework' may not be suitable for any SE ;)

@Somewhat handled

@JourneymanGeek I just realized it's a softrec question ._.

@Somewhat ya

9:50 AM
wondering - the formatting sandbox on Meta... is there anything similar on stackoverflow?

nope

MSO ?
cause there's a difference

I always disliked the forking of the metas
MSE still has MSO content.
Still get questions at MSO which are duplicates of MSE questions as well

basically, I need a sandbox when the Cthulhu spawn that is the "code formatting quality filter" is active.

FR: merge all teh metas
That is all.

9:53 AM
I am in for a laugh and wanted to see if I can pinpoint what triggered the false positive that stopped me form posting areply on stackoverflow yesterday

@TravisJ Actually.... that's a plausible idea? Using tags for separating sites, like ,
And we'd also enjoy more per-site drama :D

10:26 AM
@TravisJ They actually did that once, and it didn't work out.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog what? When?

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard A long time ago, MSO used to be the meta for all the Trilogy sites. This was back in the SE 1.0 days.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog wasn't around back then... but still, one meta for 3 sites still makes some sense. One meta for 150+ sites.... not really.

Then they established new per-site metas for MSU and MSF. That's why MSU has a ton of questions that were migrated from MSO on July 22, 2010

So apparently Visual Studio now auto-updates? Got a message saying I needed to restart my computer, and then nothing built anymore ... yay!

@Somewhat I deleted it

@TravisJ makes life easier for us
We even have a mod notification for new meta posts

@Bart Good luck with that! :/

11:02 AM
@JourneymanGeek with a ping sound? ;)

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard an alarm that keeps blaring until you've actually read the meta post.

looks like malware ;)

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard no

@JourneymanGeek apparently I noticed the bad end with that user. Was it related to that meta post?
feel free to ignore if my question is not appropriate

11:21 AM
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I'll have a look at that. So freaking annoying. It's just that the updated compiler enforces some compliance which it didn't before. And a VS rollback isn't simple. Meh

Okay. I thought there's another reason since I saw something else... (no need to reply though)
Oh. Right. I can't read. 😔

cyblance uttamI am using Ubuntu 18.4 and my Laravel version is 5.2. How to remove space in ck editor when I copy data from another place and how to solve this error? 1 copy this content and paste in ck editor: ]2]2

not suspended yet ;p

@Bart welcome to Windows! lol
Windows, where updates are ensured to cause more trouble than good.
@OptimusPrime can't suspend users on per-site meta, and it does not justify main site suspension.

Only MSE got suspension for posting programming questions. Like this. ^

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I thought there was a suspension reason 'asking programming question in meta'

11:44 AM
@OptimusPrime only on MSE, not any other meta site.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog was it on MSO?

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Only pre-split.

...
So why argue when I'm correct?
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog wait, what split? The user is only 6 months on the site.

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Who says I'm arguing?

"Friendship is Magic"
maybe this time the spell will work.

Heh... I'm spell-proofed ;)

not aimed at you

So I'm not going to get any friendship? :(
(is okay by me btw ;) I like to keep the internet people separate from my friends ;) )

sorry, didn't mean that. Only that right now I am more focused in having the local erinaceus and the canis lupus stop biting each other.

@Derpy The canis lupus hasn't been biting, only barking, so far ;)

12:13 PM
chews on pony tail instead

Which is totally fair, IMO.
@JourneymanGeek Don't chew on your hair. My mom always said you'd get hairballs ;)

12:28 PM
That seems hair-ible

@Tinkeringbell better than eyeballs.... :D

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Oh. I just love chewing on my eyeballs ...

@JourneymanGeek Yep. Plus that it never worked, I kept on chewing for a long time and never got one ;)

Only few living beings can reach their eyeballs with their tongue though...

12:31 PM
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard What does a tongue have to do with chewing? o_0
Wow. My English is on a very advanced level today....

@Tinkeringbell oh, teeth. Stop nitpicking! :P
Chewing @Tinker's tail

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Hey! Get out of my hair!
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Sooorry! Refactoring code always makes me nitpicky ;)

@Tinkeringbell tail isn't part of one's hair... I think... :D

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard ponytails? :P
They're abbreviated to 'tail' over here... So I can wear my hair in a tail

12:38 PM
@Tinkeringbell stereotypically that's Ravens nor macaws

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I knew it was too subtle a kind of humor for this room...
I'll try to make easier jokes from now on ;)
@JourneymanGeek I'm in disguise, don't ruin it!

@Tinkeringbell Nevermore

I like ravens. They're actually very pretty birds :)

I'm fond of magpies

Next avatar? :P

12:47 PM
@Tinkeringbell can you please try chanting "azarath metrion zinthos"?

@Derpy Sorry. My office doesn't allow chanting during office hours

@Tinkeringbell I'll make it easier for you! chewing on this tail:

@JourneymanGeek Hmmm. Only outside of swooping season?
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard It's called preening!

googling
>straighten and clean its feathers with its beak

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard hmm.... Ctrl+X

12:52 PM
nah... I'm not cleaning anything, just chewing. :D

@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I guess it's time to start moulting then

uh oh, now I'm in danger of endangering wildlife!

@Somewhat Don't worry, I'm tamed. It's called animal abuse then, if I'm correct :P

12:59 PM
Well, that is what chewing a tail looks like too ;)
Usually I chewed the strands that weren't in my tail though...
@Derpy have you ever seen these? I came across them when weeding out my pattern library yesterday ;)

1:35 PM
@Tinkeringbell pattern library ... you keep strange things next to the Visitor, Memento, Command and Singleton pattern ...

@rene Hehehe :D I've got stranger things in there ;)

Now I'm curious ;)

@rene Ehhh. Most of that probably isn't suited for an SE chatroom ;)
Just google ugly crochet or something and be amazed!

Eeewwww

chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/45325323#45325323 was part of a previous conversation on such stuff ;)

1:41 PM
oh my

Yep... I once downloaded a whole lot of patterns. So many, that I'm still figuring out which ones to keep and which can go :P
I think I got rid of the most awful stuff pretty soon, but once in a while a random ugly or creepy thing pops up

Crochet a rene

@Bart That's technically possible: twitter.com/FinlandExplorer/status/1040254215384440832 :P Flowers are even easier ;)

1:57 PM
@Tinkeringbell If you did cross stitch there's a great, free software I use for design. Nothing I can think of for crochet though ;)

@JourneymanGeek Most people use EasyBeads. Originially for beading, but you can choose a bead size that sort-of matches your stitch size. I once designed a bag pattern that way.

@Tinkeringbell one second....

@JourneymanGeek google.nl/… This kind of bag. In very bright colours
In fact, so bright I never took it outside once it was finished :P

@Tinkeringbell there.

whatsapp-like chat application, with built in microtransactions
For example, you could buy loot boxes to unlock new emojis or fonts

._.
@Derpy needs more blockchain

every character is 1 block

@Derpy That might get your application banned in Europe eventually though ;)

and you chain them... I concede ;)

3:02 PM
.... been running in circles for a while now. Trying to use the android emulator inside an azure vm, seems simply not possible.
I guess the docs are just wrong

user310756
3:21 PM
@Derpy that sounds resource intensive also

@YvetteColomb sadly, that will not stop us
also, unrelated.
marketing 101.
anyone notices the loophole?

user310756
@Derpy but you still need to buy something to get it. Isn't that the point? Always ahve a purchase in the flow somewhere

@YvetteColomb check the ponies you can win in both pictures.
its a catch 22 thing
you can only get Saddle Arabian Mare by buying Fiddly Twang
and by getting Saddle Arabian Mare (and some other ponies), you get a free Fiddly Twang
before you ask, nope. You can't have dupe ponies in the game.
@YvetteColomb a little clearer now?

3:40 PM
._.

user310756
@Derpy oh I didn't realise that was fiddly down the bottom

user310756
yeh it makes sense

to be fair, the prizes in the collection page (the top picture) are usually replaced by some (read: 30-40) gems if you already have them so you at least will get those... but it is still pretty lame

user310756
yeh an oversight

yeah... "oversight"
.... trust me, that is intentional ^_^
This is also the only game I know of that does not have a confirm prompt on purchases that use the in-game premium currency
they obviously can't do the same for purchases of the game currency... but once the money is converted, no more prompt.

user310756
3:56 PM
@Derpy that's bad

the shop is a scrollable list of pictures. You press on the picture to scroll, you press on the picture to buy..

@Derpy Oh, one I play has that too, but only for some purchases. Very annoying. A child proof function has been requested multiple times.

@Tinkeringbell gameloft by any chance?

@Derpy No... Another ... Goodgame studios at the top of my head

oh, nice, so it is a common thing.
Well, I know that Castle Cats has prompt for every purchase.
anyway, sorry, have to go for a while now. See you later. We can continue this discussion if you like

@Derpy see ya!

interesting to see the responsive design now also on beta sites

actually that's really where the new 'unified' design's going to be better recieved IMO ;)

it's not that much of a change there

Is the beta theme out now or only the responsive design?
I couldn't find the difference when I uncheck the "Test Beta themes"

Beta theme just out, probably 18 minutes ago

It's not in testing, it's just live.

5:19 PM
It doesn't make any difference if I uncheck "Test Beta themes" or check that.

Now nothing reminds me of the good old times anymore

@NogShine Because it's not in testing. It's just live.

@NogShine yes, because the beta theme has been tested on PPCG.SE for a month

Okay.. gotcha

alternatively, just read the featured meta post ;)

5:22 PM
Then what is the need of the option in the profile now?

@NogShine There are about a dozen sites that are still in testing. See my Tracking post.

Q: Rollout of responsive design site themes - Tracking post

CatijaThis post will be updated as the responsive design and left navigation layouts are released on each site. Previously, we tried this out by releasing still screenshots of the site designs and getting input on them and then releasing them live. This was problematic because users couldn't actually ...

@NogShine for testing sites with custom design, it's a global preference, not per-site

@AnneDaunted well in the sense that it should allow SE to knock out new designs quicker

true, maybe some sites will now graduate a bit ... quicker

But graduation has been separated from custom site design for quite a while

5:27 PM
don't shatter my dreams

@Catija at the current point of time - are all the sites with "custom" themes on the tracking post?

If they aren't, it's an accident.
They should be.

I kinda expected more to have custom designs
ah ok

I wonder how new designs will go over on mathoverflow

@JourneymanGeek I believe so, while stalking network-wide meta sites
