Ooo, I just saw the more verbose upvote & flag button on comments...
and I like how comments on CoC feedback post is consistently cleaned up :)

Me too, that's why I keep cleaning 'em up

The footballer?

@SomewhatMemorableName I really thinK TPTB want answers rather than comments :)
I'd say shog, but I'm sure a good chunk of the CM team would agree.

yeah, because, really... seeing a glimpse of yesterday's comments (at the time Thorsten was here), I don't think those "feedback" on the comment would go well...
Also, this is like you are doing spamming. please read the guidelines. I've already added a comment on your previous question why these questions may get closed and how those are against the rules. please be kind to read the guidelines. Welcome to Movies and TV SE :) — Vishwa 18 mins ago
Welcoming spammer!!1!

lol
Maaan
I once was nasty enough to a spammer they self deleted ;)
(Then they made me a mod, so I can't do that no more ;) )
Well not nasty, I pointed out it was counter productive and they should fire whoever thought spamming was a good way to promote their product.

5:53 AM
cause I'm too lazy to work out smokey... (sorry)
can someone feed smokey the answers from this user? superuser.com/users/597818/lizzy-smith
then let me know so I can nuke ;p

@JourneymanGeek both of them??

hmm
actually no

superuser.com/a/1341396/10165 is sneaky, but I smelt that one first cause it mentioned stellar...
who I know are spammers
(guys. We remember. We never forgive. And sometimes even scooby snacks do not satiate our doggy rage.)
@SomewhatMemorableName If anyone asks, say I said so ;)
Now I'll go flag and set em on fire.
I appreciate the long con, the posts were two years apart

"you're spam banned. Please wait for 6 months until you can spam again"

oh
No one noticed ._.
and this is a situation where it was a mix of folks remembering spammers (me!) and... stuff just smelling wrong ;p
I give 'generic anglosaxon' names a second look. As racist as that sounds ._.

and 'pretty female profile'. As sexist as that sounds >_<

6:01 AM
naw, spammers are equal opportunity ;)
though, ya stock picture good looking probably dosen't help
... I don't even know what to call that bias.
The joke is...
they could save a lot of work and go with a gravatar
(cue all the spammers using pictures of dogs as their ava...)

So, I was trying to search about the spammer's experience on Stack Exchange (and failed miserably). Though, I found this instead: How to Block Webmasters.stackexchange.com Referrals in Google Analytics

@HankyPanky I disagree and have reverted the title to a neutral one. We don't need a clickbait title to get good questions or answers. — JonathanReez ♦ yesterday
My faith in Travel.SE is (slightly) restored...

6:31 AM
Anyone got any idea what this is: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/312816/…
Whatever this is, it's either gibberish or beyond my english speaking skills

looks like a test

@Magisch That reads a little like a rant on a closed question

Browsing his past activity, it doesn't look like the user has some grudges against SE... So I'll agree that this is a test.
... or this answer

@SomewhatMemorableName Guy's a troll, don't feed them.

6:42 AM
I didn't really feed them. I asked curiously and moved on.
Okay, I kind of agree it's a troll. Alright, moving on fast...

6:58 AM
@SomewhatMemorableName until next clash...

That's a new one.
Off topic question. Self answered within a minute.
And it was not a simple answer solvable in one minute ._.

7:23 AM
Is there an SEDE query to find posts by a specific user whose last comment was made by a specific user?

not ready made I would say. Not hard to create.

Not that I know of, do you want one?

amaze me @Magisch

That seems... specific

7:33 AM
@Magisch ._. I'm not even sure why you'd assume he'd need that XD

@Magisch What makes you think so?

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog could just change the UIDs I guess

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog You asked that specifically in the past
They're variables, you can change the UIDS without editing the query
I just used posts by shog with comments from sonic to test since he asked about it specifically in the past so I knew there were at least some
Which saved me from finding a instance where there's more then 1 by sleuthing on MSE

@Magisch Would you mind adding another column for the time of the latter users' comment?

@rene I know you could probably do it in 1/4 of the time as me, but still, fun exercise :P

7:41 AM
SQL golfing?

The difference between golfing and optimisation is.. whether you get paid? ;p

@Shog9 Still waiting for your responses to my comments here, here, and here.

I'm now regretting having made that query

@JourneymanGeek I now imagine Ash making that face :P

7:52 AM
@Tinkeringbell We call it the "Great Granma's Soap opera face"

@JourneymanGeek That sounds as if you need that face a lot in real life

cause as a pup, he expected everyone to go to bed at half past ten, and would stare angrily at my granma until she went to bed
cause if little ash went to bed, everyone needed to go to bed.

OTOH, I'm curious if Anime.SE will get rep privilege bumped or not some time in the future ...

is ._. an angry face then?

@Tinkeringbell its a bit of a we are not amused face

@JourneymanGeek Huh... I always looked at it as an 'I'm not sure what to think of this' face

(I don't really approve of pinging CMs to get /demand responses for non life and death situations)
even as a mod, sometimes i go "flag plz"

@JourneymanGeek sometimes? :P

need eyebrow, like (´・_・`)

Have to do that a lot ;) Dangers of hanging out in the chat room. Must admit it's my own fault as well, because I'm not very consistent at enforcing it. If I'm there and have the time, I handle it ;)

7:54 AM
Well there's the "Its hard enough to get acceptedf flags" and there's the "dude, I'm on my phone, someone else can deal" flag plzes

@JourneymanGeek I think it's OK, because the team has explicitly stated in a meta post that they're OK with people using the contact form to get attention for unaddressed bugs and FRs.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog contact form is hugely different from chat pings?
I'm... not following that jump

@JourneymanGeek Ash is running the household confirmed

@JourneymanGeek Yeah. True :) There's also the 'there's already enough flags. Just keep the rest for tomorrow' XD

I did list pinging an SE employee in chat as a way to get attention for such requests in my answer on how to get attention for unaddressed requests for the team. While I did bow down to community pressure to remove it, I still believe it to be an effective method.

8:00 AM
No such thing as enough flags. Always more flags until you don't have any left
Then, repeat

Capture the Flags

@Shadow has waited years for some of his custom flags on meta to be handled.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog "contact form"

TBH, every time Shog was talking about foods in here, I couldn't undestand most of them...
Perhaps lemonade is still the simplest

@JourneymanGeek even longer waiting.

8:15 AM
@ShadowWizard might do good to learn patience ;)
Unless its a security issue...

@JourneymanGeek I used that twice, and didn't get a response for close to a year, until I said it wasn't necessary to respond anymore

But I am. ;)

@ShadowWizard I admittedly treat the contact form as fire and forget.
@SomewhatMemorableName food isn't universal

I imagine some employee setting the prio to -10 and then it gets lost in the ever growing ticket backlog

Other than polenta analogs

8:18 AM
@SomewhatMemorableName Wait. You're having trouble understanding food? :P Perhaps this helps:
> any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink or that plants absorb in order to maintain life and growth.

@Tinkeringbell ...except anchovies/sardines.

@MartinJames Oh. If we're going to limit it to stuff we like, I'd like to rule out tomatoes as well
They're not a fruit, not a vegetable and not a food. Solves a lot of problems :P

So... it must be nutritious , for whatever "nutritious " means...

@Tinkeringbell So, tht's most types of pizza out. Now we have to worry about users leaving the site because they have starved to death:(

> efficient as food; nourishing.
I'm not going to google the meanings of efficient or nourishing :P But I guess it's enough to say that if you eat it, it won't make you starve to death :P
@MartinJames I have been assured that there's a way to make pizza without tomatoes :)
I just need to find a pizzeria that's crazy enough to do so ;)

8:36 AM
Hmm... given an on-topic "list" question, is posting an answer to get rep, then later change it to CW so others can participate.. a questionable behavior?

@SomewhatMemorableName I don't think so. The FAQ on community wiki posts says the original author of a post that's made community wiki gets to keep their rep... that must be there for a reason?
Maybe they didn't know what community wiki was, or the benefits of having such a status.

@MartinJames death by starvation is hardly welcoming
Well cws are semi obsolete
@Tinkeringbell white pizza is actually traditional iirc
I would look it up but I am on my phone

9:08 AM
@JourneymanGeek I've been told that before. Personally, I like sprinkles on bread better than vegetables, so I never really looked into it ;)

9:23 AM
Pizza without tomato sauce is just bread with cheese
@JourneymanGeek exactly how I treat MSE custom flags! ;)

pizza in general is rather unpleasant
Unless without cheese

Cheese is the core of pizza...

Cheese-based pizza with bread topping?

I've eaten pizza without tomato sauce or cheese before and it was still fine

I often eat pizza for lunch. 🍕

9:26 AM
Not topping... umm, bottoming?
I eat pizza without tomato/chili sauce though. Prefer the original taste than the tomato.

@Magisch that... Wasn't pizza. ;)

(but then, I either eat Pizza Hut or Domino Pizza...)

@SomewhatMemorableName that isn't a noun

uh oh, apparently bottoming can be NSFW
(halp! request RO to trash dat)
Oh yeah, anyway...

@Derpy Nah thanks. I just ate lunch :P
Just tried my hand at my first close-vote: meta.stackexchange.com/q/312835/369802 is off-topic, right?
@Magisch I'm tempted to say that's not very nice ;)

@Tinkeringbell I would say so, yes.

10:42 AM
@rene Good. I'm never sure when to pick just the top one (off-topic) or the bottom one that screams 'blatantly off-topic'? What's the difference?
meta.stackexchange.com/q/312834/369802 Also, wasn't this one posted already?
I'm having a deja-vu

@Tinkeringbell yes
@Tinkeringbell left a comment

@rene Huh. Nice :) I was still wondering if to do so, and how to point that out nicely ;)

@Tinkeringbell left a comment. Expect "Meta SE is unwelcoming"
Well... I know that user was active on Anime.SE and had actively participated on child meta before I became active on there...

@SomewhatMemorableName Well, not yet ;) Also, I think your comment is okay ;)
@SomewhatMemorableName And on a second thought. Is that person asking for getting something implemented that makes the answers across SE (all hardware related sites) more environmentally friendly?
Because that might just be a bad idea then, not off-topic

11:03 AM
I don't think so, I think he just wanted to cross-post the same Meta Photo post to other hardware-related sites asking for the same input.
Which could be seen as asking a solution to a non-existence problem on other sites...

@SomewhatMemorableName But... then it's good they picked MSE? Because it would address policy on multiple sites. (I must admit I'm waaay too new to be having close-vote privs)

@Tinkeringbell I'm raging behind my keyboard but the New CoC Filter™ smoothens everything out into fluffy wording ...

@rene Hmmm. That sounds like something you could sell to at least the entire Dutch population on SE

@Magisch tempted to reply I am groot

There's a close reason "specific to some sites", which I chose for that question. A policy on Meta SE can be seen as "general policy/guideline" that should be followed as possible, but I see that question pertains only to Photo.SE. SuperUser could have different policy.... or ServerFault (throwing server?)

11:07 AM
@Tinkeringbell it's ok. You can get lots of practice
I close and delete here more than anywhere, even SU

@Tinkeringbell yes, they are an awesome testgroup.

@JourneymanGeek I'm already trying ;)

@JourneymanGeek you are dog

@SomewhatMemorableName You're right. I could probably better have picked that one

@Magisch we are all dog, aren't we?

11:09 AM
@SomewhatMemorableName who are you calling a dog?

@SomewhatMemorableName Well, those that aren't bi... never mind.

@Derpy dog buster?

True but that dosen't open things up to a joke about vocabulistics

oh, you didn't call some one thing

@Derpy you are gray pony

11:12 AM
(my dog joke was too risky... one wrong word and it could be fatal)

@Magisch I'm Muffin

kai watch

howdy
didn't watch...

didn't watch either
@rene do you understand the issue I'm trying to bring attention to in my question? The way you phrased your comment makes me think you don't

11:26 AM
Thanks for that feedback. I leave it to others to sort out then.

is Catija pinned post a devious plot to get us hungry?

@Derpy what pinned post?

I clicked it, only to be greeted by a gallery of various candies and sweets.

starred, not yet pinned...

@ShadowWizard I said pinned, meant starred

11:28 AM
just one step before world hunger domination...

@user1306322 you might want to choose to phrase things a little less agressively. People might react better to them that way.
@Derpy the haribo one?

@JourneymanGeek like what?
I'm just straightforward in my phrasing and there's a character limit too

Well.what I replied to.

yea there's a whole mess under my question on meta
people seem to think I'm looking for a "recommendation"

Yes

11:31 AM
It's up to us as communicators to make ourselves understood

I want to know if it's cool to ask the same question on different metas

No, it is not

I often have this problem on the main SE meta
it seems like other sites understand me more
my experience with the global meta so far has been dramatically worse than with other metas

Cross posting is discouraged heavily

discouraged how?

11:33 AM
People get annoyed

with downvotes? by mods deleting copies of the question on other metas?

The problem with cross-posting your meta post is because, there's a possibility that there's no issue on that site regarding your post.

@user1306322 yes, both

There's no explicit mechanism against it, sure

so I'm asking for community input
do you think there's an issue with people recommending to throw tech away if it can be easily repaired by someone else, but a repair shop will ask ridiculous cost for it
see I could have just asked in chat

11:34 AM
But it works better when you have a specific post to ask abot

but I'd like it to be a more permanent and localized discussion
not many people use chat on those tech related sites, it's pretty empty most times
@JourneymanGeek I linked to it, on the photo meta

Or better yet you post an exceptional answer glorious in it's construction

I was not planning on posting an answer
I just want to hear what people think about this

@Derpy no link in @Catija's starred message, so... still confused.

I posted a comment though

11:36 AM
Boring

not sure it won't be deleted but I don't have enough on-topic info to post an answer to that question

So learn :)

see this is the extent I'm willing to go about this
I want to know people's opinion on something, and you propose to post my thoughts to one post as an answer. That's just awkward

Cause I have taught myself to diagnose and replace caps on old monitors

What I saw: you read a post on Photo.SE and saw a problem. You asked it on Meta Photo.SE (okay). You generalize the issue to all other sites by posting on Meta SE (questionable). You almost posted the same issue on other meta sites (questionable, since those sites might not have a problem with that).
Or.... you see Meta SE as a general discussion site?

11:38 AM
So I can post an answer and complain in good faith is someone is unhappy

I see Meta SE as a site to post a question suitable for a number of other metas, when posting to >1 of them is discouraged
is that wrong?
should I post to those N sites' metas instead?

Not reeaaslllyyy

well, yea, this is why we're here :p
I'm trying to figure out the best course of action

But broader network issues are rare

Meta is not where opinion-based questions go... it's where questions about the site go. The relevance of cross posting is a red herring... it's not a meta-appropriate question at all. It's better for a completely different site entirely, like a forum.

11:40 AM
And you're best off asking on per site meta's as you find posts you can answer with such answers

Morning Catija btw

We do not like polling questions mostly

Morning.

the main issue is not really so big that everyone would agree that it exists and a meta discussion about it has a place on meta, and that is why I'm asking about whether it's an issue people see as real issue, and also I don't want just Photo's input, since this could be recognized as an issue on other hardware sites.

Unless you work here... :P
@user1306322 so. Bring it up as you find it's an issue

11:41 AM
alright, I asked on photo, and I'll say that's enough headache for me already :p

@JourneymanGeek even then, not always

sometimes I ask "do you think this is an issue?" and people get defensive and aggressive and I'm like wtf and I leave SE for a while
this is like half of my meta experience
the other half is quite pleasant and informative
guess that's human interaction for ya

tis' your tone

But well, what's the purpose of that meta post, once again? Is it to prevent certain answers?

"In my opinion we should ... blah blah blah". Then go write that as your answer, instead of trying to preach to others that they should write it as their answers. — Olin Lathrop 13 mins ago
oof my tone
@SomewhatMemorableName I want to find out if people think it's a worthwhile issue to take into account when recommending what to do in case where a damaged item costs more to repair than buying a new one
if people think it's worth discussing, then maybe someone would create a meta question asking whether we should advise something specific, you know, for the betterment of the world, ecology, recycling, etc
if people think it's a non-problem, do nothing
but I wanted an "official" discussion on meta
so that this could be referred to in future
right now I just got my question closed on the global meta as not appropriate for the global meta, but I got an answer on the photo meta, essentially saying "this is your opinion, don't waste our time"
I guess that's an opinion of one high rep user on there
I'm awaiting for more input

11:48 AM
Okay, I think I can grasp the situation now.

I'd ask on their respective chats but I'm looking to have a permanent discussion to which users can be referred to in the future, and also chat isn't a great format for such discussions, with the lack of votes and localization of topics
usually I ask on metas and it's cool
I'm not sure why this specific question is so controversial though
maybe it's a sign of how people think it's not a real issue
but see, this is what I don't like about metas - if they don't think it's a real issue, instead of saying so, your question gets deleted and if someone else looks for it, you can't find it via search all closed and downvoted
sometimes at least

I guess why it looks "controversial" because they couldn't understand the broader situation at the time it was posted on MSE (me neither). I only understood know after you explaining all of this.

I'd be perfectly fine if it was answered as "the community at large seems to agree this is not an issue or something we should be concerned about" and closed, and stayed there for all future users to find
well, I'm just glad it's finally cleared up a little
in my opinion we (the SE community) should strive to advise users to act more ecologically friendly, but if it's such a problem, I'd like to know why exactly it is a problem

Also the "topic" you're explaining looks too narrow (it's about throwing vs recycling/sell), so some users might be hard to understand if this is a big issue on most SE.

like you know with some tech it might be very dangerous to re-use, like something containing dangerous chemicals which might break and spill

11:54 AM
waffles

But I guess what you really wanted to ask is: "Should we reduce tangential opinion-based suggestion when answering?"...

It's a non issue cause 'its fixable' with sufficient backing information is an answer

@rene if that is the answer most users agree on, nothing would change in that case. If the majority of users agreed that is an issue, then a post with recommended re-selling sites or something could be compiled to which users could be linked when something is too expensive to fix but it still of use. Just because we're nice.

(I haven't read the underlying Photo.SE question though, I assume that's the problem)
Okay, I have read the answers, and I think I get the issue right.

for example, on anime we don't give people recommendations or do identifications but we've compiled a meta post with out own recommendations and a meta post for self-help in identifying anime pictures and gifs. I think it's nice and most of our users there agree. Nobody forced us to help more than we need to outside of strictly answering questions as asked.
@SomewhatMemorableName uhh not sure I understand

11:59 AM
So it is a bit similar to this

@JourneymanGeek the question and the answers on that Photo post are not what concerns me, it's that one recommendation to throw it away instead of reusing something that largely works aside from one malfunctioning part.
